I always found it very annoying as Gimp had free floating windows scattered all over the desktop. One window, very good news. :smileyhappy: Thats what got me thinking about switching

So where would you rather start? GIMP approaches the idea of editing images form a different set of assumptions then Photoshop does. For some people this works for some it doesn't. I've been using photoshop for 15 years, and have tried gimp a few times and like it but never took the time to really get to know gimp, but not that my version of photo shop is 10 years old I was thinking if that now would be a good time to make a full time switch to gimp with photshop as a backup if needed. Looks like gimps come a long way. You asid gimp uses diffrent assumptions, is ther an easy way to sum that up, knowing that would make the swith a lot easer.
  3. Thanks Tiffy, that's exactly what I needed to hear.
  4. I'm Using Photoshop 7, I just realized it's now 10 years old. There's no way I can afford to get the current version of Photoshop, so thought I'd down load Gimp 2.80 I'm happy to see that Gimp now can be in just one window :) Thought I'd post this here to see if anyone might know how the new version of Gimp compares to a 10 year old version of Photoshop.

This site is useful for tracking daily concurrency. Although when I hear lately Lindens doing 'stress tests' with bot software on some sims, potentially invalidates even this simple metric :catindifferent: back a week or so ago when we had that big crash and the system down the next Monday too for more fixes, when no one could log in, I thought it was strange that the concurrency both days bottomed out at around 12,000. Made me wonder if LL has that many bots.
  6. You can still get some of the info here. http://gridsurvey.com/index.php I all so noticed that there was no blog post for the new Premium gift, it would appear that LL has stopped communicating with us on the blog, if so then I think they should just get rid of the blog page, it looks bad to have no activity there. I think the real test of how LL is still communicating with us will be SLCC 2012. I hope they explain at SLCC why they don't communicate any more, if they even let us know about the event.

Fenix Eldritch wrote: Here is the SL wiki article explaining why this kind of "animation" is bad: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Why_UUID_Flipping_is_Bad Thanks for posting that I hadn't seen that before. I never liked to use sculpt animation because they tended to flicker as the cash or server had to keep getting updated. A friend showed me a trick that got rid of the flickering, you just place the sculpt maps on a texture preloader and the flickering stops, but now it looks like this my be only over coming the viewer issues and not the server side network load.
  8. My sales are down about 50% from last week, but then last week 50% of my sales were on Sunday so may be tomorrow I'll catch up.
  9. Alisha, thanks for the info. When you said that the critters watch their CPU usage and self delete, is that a built in function of pathfinding or is that extra code that needs to be added. Im seeing the 15 minimum prim count in sand boxes on both Aditi and the main grid, looks like the sand box is running on a newer server version then the wilderness areas. Sanck Sandbox 1: RC PF 12.05.02.25554 The River, Leech: Second Life RC Wilderness 12.03
  10. I wonder if the unicycle is using llSetKeyframedMotion instead of path finding.

Hehe, I've posted before that I've got totally lost with all the changes to land-impact. Hell, it's even had more name-changes than I could keep track of. As far as I can tell from the very limited information LL have given us the 'benefit' of pathfinding is being able to set things like 'flee' and let the object work it out for itself. That is an awful lot easier than coding similar behaviour in LSL. (And I have no idea how to create a navmesh, but since I'm not rich enough to upload meshes it's probably immaterial (pun)) I think the current name is for land impact is "Land-Impact Resident" :-)
  12. Here's the script I was testing, I be curious to see how it performs against yours. The path finding scripts look simple but if it's not saving resources then I'd rather take the time to do it the hard way. And for 15 LI all this script does is chase you around. All so see if you get the same LI for adding the script, the sand box may be running under different LI rules. string title ="llPursue"; //name of function being tested here string body = ""; //construct body in code that compiles options used ti function call, target etc key target = NULL_KEY; default { state_entry() { llSetText("I am an llPursue cube.\nClick me to relentlessly pursue you!", <1.0, 1.0, 1.0>, 1.0); llCreateCharacter([CHARACTER_DESIRED_SPEED, 5.0]); } on_rez(integer start_param) { llDeleteCharacter(); llResetScript(); } touch_start(integer total_number) { llSetText("Pusuig " + llDetectedName(0), <1.0, 1.0, 1.0>, 1.0); llPursue(llDetectedKey(0), [PURSUIT_OFFSET, <0, 0.5, 0>, REQUIRE_LINE_OF_SIGHT, FALSE]); } } I haven't had a chance to play with the nav mesh yet, is the owner of the land the only one who can edit it?
  13. I tested some of the free scripts used at the Pathfinding sand box, to see how they effect LI there's seams to be a minimum LI of 15 for using the scripts. I tested placing them in a single box and got a LI of 15 so kept adding boxes and got a LI of 15 until I added a 16th box which had a LI 16 I tried changes the boxes to torus and that had no effect on the LI. I haven't been able to find any documentation on this yet.
  14. If your not getting payed in RL$ then I woulden't think working for some one else in SL would count as a job, but if you cashed out your L$ it could count as income, of course that all depends on where you live in RL.
  15. You can't drag and drop textures on to an attachment that is worn, or to clothing or skin layers by dragging on to an avatar. For an attachment you can select the object and change textures using the edit window, or rez it on the ground and then drag a texture on to it, for clothing and skin see the link, but for any of this to work the object or layer your trying to texture must be modifiable. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Clothing_Tutorials
  16. Earlier today the forms, marketplace, wiki, dashboard were all down for me.
  17. Amber Barnard wrote: They will never give specifics. They never have in the six years I've been on SL. I have heard from a reliable source, though, that they suffered a DOS attack today and this whole downtime is the result of that and/or an exploit that needed to be fixed asap. But don't ever count on LL to give any kind of specifics. Would that be called a denial of denial of service attack
  18. The grid was down to celebrate national conspiracy day. Do to it's huge popularity more national conspiracy days will be randomly observed through out the year.
  19. I'm acctually testing all 3 suggestions you and Innula made, theres some thing to be learned by all of them :-)
  20. Thanks, Innula all so a huge help! Part of my problem was that I was getting the key from llAvatarOnSitTarget and needed to store it in the discription so as not to lose it when the avatar got up, but using llDetectedKey I think should fix that in most cases. For some reason a while back I got out of the habbit of using states, thats some thing I need to revisit. For testing RLV is there a reliable realy you would recomend, I'm not sure that the one I have is working correctly I keep seeing all the RLV commands in chat even when I'm using the LL viewer 3
  21. Peter, thanks for the feed back, I'm trying to learn more about programming in general and comments like this area a huge help!
  22. I'm working on a similar problem with an RLV trap, not sure if if this would help you it's meant to just keep track of the last person on the object so they don't reset the trap. I'm new to programming so there my be a better way to store the key, like the list that Innula suggested, but thats over my head for now. This test works, but I haven't had a chance to fully test it out on my trap yet. default { collision_start(integer num_detected) { if (llGetKey()!=llGetObjectDesc()) { llSetObjectDesc(llGetKey()); llSay(0, "first time here"); } else if (llGetKey()==llGetObjectDesc()) { llSay(0, "Im back."); llSleep(5); llSetObjectDesc(NULL_KEY); llSay(0, "ready to start over"); } } }
  23. There was a best in noob contest at a club, the person that won was wearing shopping boxes attached all over, it was hilarious, but it really points to just how common a problem this is for noobs. I remember my first box that got attached and how frustrating it was when I didn't even know what it was or how to remove it. I went to a help island and no one could help me. If I hadn't had RL friends in SL to help me out I don't think I would have lasted past the second day. I think adding a back up box to the folder seams like the best idea I've seen so far.
  24. Mickey Vandeverre wrote: curious, how you're going to handle this. doubt I would delete the contents of the magic box so early in the game. I'm all ready got my shop 100% DD, I didn't delete my boxes I just took them into inventory as a back up, I started deleting the unassociated listings one at a time, but got half way through and decided to see what happened if I removed the magic boxes from the magic box status page, then went to dinner when I came back all the unassociated listings left were gone. I did several test deliveries and they all worked. I would keep a back up of your magic box, I missed several items when unpacking them last week to get ready, they were easy to find as using the import failure log, I just uploaded them again. I all so send several items to the upload box twice just to see what would happen, they ended up being listed as both associated and unassociated, I just returned the unassociated ones from the inventory page and every thing was fine. An other advantage of getting rid of the magic boxes I hadn't thought of was that I was able to free up 2 group slots from the land rental groups from where my boxes had been stored.
  25. It dint for for me until I logged out a and back in after that took about 2 minuets to upload and convert my entire store. I had missed a few boxes when opened them up to make filders, I just had to go back, open and relaod those after seeing them not listed as derect delivery.
