  1. I'm probably beating a dead horse here since it was posted a while back but to fix this issue you have to take into account that the script counts your avatar as a linked prim so if you want the avatar to swing with the linked prims you have to include another number to the list. If your swing is 4 prims total you would add a 5 to the list to include the avatar. All that is needed next is a sit script in the prim you want to sit on to position the avatar.

  2. After re-reading this post in it's entirety I noticed that I did not comment on your post. I still consider the actions of LL to be tyrannical in a sense that they are giving the user a minimal toolset to use as a content creator while promoting the premise of being able to sell your artistic quality and then stepping on their toes as a content provider selling their own artistic content that in essence is competition for the little guy/resident. I don’t consider my post to be a flounce since I wished everyone well as I called the governing party a tyranny.

  3. As far as traffic bots are concerned I personally used them and I pulled around 40k+ traffic using them with the combined real traffic of two clubs and a combat sim but IMO it was a necessity at the time because EVERYONE on the front page listing was using them and I needed to stay competitive. I'm admitting to this because the in world market has pretty much halted and I submitted to the changes made to the TOS concerning bots a long time ago before it became a TOS issue. Now they are irrelevant because of the low in world search usage and the changes made to sim traffic recognition. My point is that I agree that the figures for resident creation and usage at the time was waaaaay out of bounds. As far as the marketplace sales graph is concerned.... How many of you took into consideration the amount of residents that purchased their own goods with alts in an effort to show up on the "What people are buying."  section of the marketplace front page and to post good feedback for their items? Sorry but there's no Linden graph anyone can show me that holds any water IMO.

  4. Have you considered http://unity3d.com/unity/ ? My background is as a Maya developer so it was a no brainer for me because of the import functionality. They used to charge around $100 for the basic version but now it's free. The free version only exports to mac/pc/web and it's missing some of the features available in pro like global illumination but you are licensed to sell any product you produce with it commission free. If you decide to go consul or phone app the pro engine has exporters for iphone/android/ps3/wii and xbox 360. Comparing the price tag of other engines I noticed some of the older engines charge a commission with their pro version if your company makes over 10k usd a year on top of a yearly license while Unity has a flat rate. It uses havok 4 as a physics engine and it's node based for visual designers so building in it is similar to SL in many ways. Anyone serious about creating actual game content should take a look at it imo. I'm actually in the process of using the engine and learning the unity api for a few projects in the works.

  5. An idea just came to mind. Instead of looking for revenue in the consumer base itself why not incorperate a bitcoin mining pool into sl? Something similar to http://www.bitcoinplus.com/generate but with gpu mining as well for the systems that can handle it of corse giving the option to toggle. Personally I'd rather donate my gpu/cpu usage to LL rather than have them take the money directly from my pocket. X users * hash rate = revenue. Websites already do it why not applications?

  6. lol sry i'm in and out of the forum i eddited the last post as well. Thanks for the input. I set the original machine to specifics that are secure enough browser wise but I usually wipe the cloned machine after I make transactions etc and I use vm instead of wine just because i'm more familiar with it. Bitcoin is a p2p currency so I was just wondering if peerblocker did anything to stop tracking.

  7. I've read a lot of constructive criticism and people have made a lot of valid points in this thread. I'm surprised that in 2 days it's raked in over 500 views wich leads me to belive it's an issue that people are interested in. I'd like to hear from the linden content creators working on the mmorpg assets and possibly Rod Humble. No disrespect intended Rod, I have purchased and own pretty much every sims game created and I aspire to become a content creator in your ranks but seriously what were you thinking making linden labs as a corperate entity competition for the consumer base that you cater to?

  8. please read original post... This thread is about linden labs creating product in a supposedly user created world and using marketing methods/script assets/land usage not available to the consumer/land owner/content creator to sell people a product that is superior and a lot easier to market for them than anything the general customer base/resident/content creator can offer, hense why I refuse to participate in content creation until changes are made. I'm not blowing smoke here nor measuring my epeen against other content creators but look at my franchise and visit random combat sims...  The ones that are still around anyway…. I'm sure you will see at least one of my products being used. They saw a market for a product and utilized their methods to monopolize it once again stepping on the content creator for monetary gain in a short view. I could just as easily sell iphone and android apps using the unity engine and javascript but I’m a patron of SL and I enjoy watching it grow. I’ve tutored multiple people in maya for free as to how they can create sculpted prims, I even started tutoring in poly mesh which is an entirely different beast btw using uv mapping. I have contributed to the community and will continue to do so as well as offer customer support for my current product line. I will not however spend my time in a virtual world that is ran by a dictatorship…. Provide the assets and let the user create the world or piss off imo…

  9. Please view the original post first... not a flame... It's not about weak or strong..... Business minded people generally will notice when somone is making money in their market then try to incorperate that into their own product line, some in a legitmate way and others will pirate your product and sell it for less. The only thing you can do after that is offer a better and more secure product.

  10. I substituted quantity with quality in my product. I made an effort to allow as many other combat systems to integrate into my mobs as possible. I updated my product line over 4 years and even worked on a proprietary system that was pve based with a free lootgen... 2 years wasted imo on generating loot content... The market will always be saturated with competition.... The question people ask is what makes your product different.

  11. In response to site tracking, "sorry I gotta ask lol"  do peer blocking programs generally stop them from seeing what sites you view? I know I have all my browser settings set to not save my history and not allow cookies unless prompted. I use an ip proxy method and I generally use peerblocker at all times due to the high amount of bitcoin transactions I make. I'm curious because I consider my system to be fairly secure and if this is the case then LL has in fact made an effort to promote.

  12. IMO they should have implemented mesh from square one. Mesh allows content creators to create intricate products with low prim count, low visual load and low physics usage if used correctly. The downside to mesh is the fact that Linden Labs has made sooo many changes to the viewer in recent months that people are generally not willing to update to a mesh enabled viewer so theres not much of a market for it yet.

  13. I was actually excited to see mesh implemented. Mesh gives content creators the ability to produce intricate products with low prim count, low load on visuals and low physics usage depending on how it's imported. I'm surprised it wasn't implemented from the beginning personally since every game engine to date generally uses some form of poly mesh with transparent innards to achieve this. Unfortunately with all the changes made to the viewer not a lot of people are willing to update to mesh viewers.

  14. I can respect a free and open market based on competition and things like supply/demand but if you consider my franchise and what options are available for marketing then take into consideration that LL is using linden created methods of AI that aren't even available to the consumer and the add campaign they used where EVERYONE who uses a sl viewer was plastered with a full page add promoting their product on the login screen.... Is that fair?

  15. I was just talking about the use of furniture and housing as a ploy to get people to purchase premium accounts in general. I’m not sure what items in particular the other posters mentioned. I was a sim owner way before they offered the linden created furniture so I never received any. It's interesting to know that there are addspaces that track what sites you view..... I was unaware of that.

  16. I think th

Because some people simply enjoy creating and really don't care too much about profit?
    ;)

I suppose there is validity in that but my discussion was geared toward content creators who desire a profit for their time spent creating content. I consider SL to be an investment of my money and time and I consider the linden created content to be a threat to my investment.

  17. I actually joined before all the free linden created content but my point is still valid even if it is crap. Why should people continue to create content in a virtual world that is supposed to be created by the residents when Linden Labs has decided to start providing their own content for sale, content that has the capacity to be far superior in many ways to that of the general market using havoc 4 physics souly and taking into consideration the new mmorpg assets that aren’t crap contain new unreleased methods of ai. It reminds me of the US government using insider trading to proffit...

  18. Hello everyone, for those who are unfamiliar to me I joined Second Life 6/21/2007 under the alias Ubah Paine. Through Ubah I was a casino, club and mall owner with a club group that had 3k plus members. Currently there are over 1100 members and I haven’t hosted an event in years just to give you an idea of how many of my patrons have quit sl altogether. I was not upset when they banned casinos or banks.

Through Stan I first pioneered the sculpted prim industry by offering full perm sculpted women’s shoes and other clothing accessories.  I sold each kit for around 3k linden at the time and now sell them for 500L because they have been pirated by people who don’t fall under the dmca act or people have just handed them away contrary to the ip clause you agree to by purchasing them. I’m not upset about that, the value would have dropped due to competition in a free market anyway. While I am an animator, graphic designer and game dev in the real world I will not be pursuing any further content creation in SL, mesh or otherwise. I could but I refuse…

I then moved on to scripted items because you can copybot a prim but you can’t steal the script inside. I designed several multi combat system integrated weapons and pioneered the mmorpg mob “monsters with exp and loot” industry. For those who are unfamiliar with what I mean by pioneered, I created the first ones and developed them over 4 years. I sat on that goose egg for a while and it faired me well. I had competition but none that offered the functionality of my product and I was even working on a fully integrated combat system with a level hierarchy and lootgen that would have been the first pve based combat system in SL and if not for the fall of the SL economy and hard times that fell on my main scripter it would have been finished, I’m not upset about all that however.

Anyone who has an avatar as old as I do can remember when linden labs bought out onrez and xstreet then tried to monopolize xstreet. I used onrez exclusively for my in world vendors. I would rent vendor stalls in world and while I generated revenue my patrons who owned the malls that I rented in would generate revenue. When LL decided to kill off onrez in a really short time I lost all those vendors and the revenue spent on those stalls for the rest of the month. They then made a spectacle of the new marketplace and claimed that they were going to add new pricing to free items and include a listing fee on top of the sales % which coincidentally never happened…  I know of several content creators who quit SL altogether over that whole fiasco. The majority of people now exclusively use the marketplace to purchase items instead of going in world and visiting vendor stores in your mall or club imo…

After hiring Rod Humble as the new ceo I have noticed several changes in SL. There is more publicity on random sites that I have viewed so the population is starting to grow again which is a good thing. The thing that really set me off however was the fact that linden labs is now selling linden created content in a virtual world that is supposed to be created by the user. They offer you prefab homes and furniture for signing up for a premium account. You don’t think that’s kinda stepping on the content creators toes who build those homes? Now they have integrated a new linden mmorpg sim and offering people linden created mmorpg assets…. Linden labs just stepped on my toes with that one...

Anyone who has been around for a while has noticed that the value of the linden dollar has dropped about 30% since 2007. My 1500L sold for 8-9 dollars in 2007 but now I trade the paltry chump change I make for bitcoins at 5-6 bucks per 1500L. I will continue to offer customer support for my products but I refuse to create any new content in a virtual world monopolized by it’s creators, mesh, sculpted or otherwise. I’ve decided to spend my time in a more profitable fashion designing and selling real world games and assets in a market that is not so small nor falling apart. Good luck to you all and enjoy the tyranny while you immerse yourselves in it, I'm done with it....
