As i am a active FFXIV player: A ton of japanese culture IS that way .. like from a fan perspective - i'm not lying, they got the better games, they know how to be more apologetic - however they also know how to be far more arrogant about both LOL. Also your mentioning of the EU: They're yelling at NZ currently to stop using european names on cheese that .. well a lot of them are european style cheeses that aren't made in the EU but derive from the source. So my question would probably defeat the WHOLE PURPOSE OF THIS THREAD and make me the bad guy (Though at this point i've already been that by not being clear or smart but oh well XD) : WHY CANT I NAME MY CHEESE CHEDDAR AND WHY CANT I HAVE MY EDAM CHEESE? ...i mean that's the extent of the produce argument right now with the EU. However part of the original statement that was argued is the sacredness of certain cultures, and the more we refuse to respect them the meaning gets lost. Which is why japan needs to quit being arrogant about how flippantly "SUPERIOR" they are and be a little more mindful of their history - because they've done just as much damage as euro centric and americanized places long before europeans and americans came on board . Look this thread became trashfire on accident because of me, and also because not a lot of people were respecting the original poster... But Pasifika and Maori culture alike are considered sacred, while your typical Yukata or Kimono aren't. I personally still try and respect japanese culture the same way, but then again i did just unlock Samurai in FFXIV - so i'm subject to the extremist judging people think i've been dishing out (and haven't been) Let's just remember: Capitalizing on a sacred historical object without sharing the history and value of it is the largest issue with SL right now - And we have the 1990s to thank for this bull***** LOL - the amount of times you realized "TRIBAL" tattoos were ripped from the lands and people in the pacific or native cultures of the US and other places... We just should do more careful thought- it's not about who we are as a race or anything, it's who the culture is that we're looking to share with - If you're determined it's OK to wear a maori tattoo in SL - then ask about WHAT it means and how to respect it when you're wearing it. If you don't care. Then it isn't my job to legally fight you. If you want to be a Maori warrior - don't just dress like one. It's like us nerds of anime and et all - like japanese culture, - you wear that Samurai Kimono you better know the history- it isn't required, but it's a philosophical moment of authenticity of self and those around you. God i gotta quit engaging in a university level of things - nobody cares.

I beleive i did, but if you give me time i have to get organized if i'm to proceed with this project please see the updates post - PLUS my post above this that explains WHY it's up in the air. "aren't proceeding" would be ... mixed messages, i guess - I SORT OF AM prodceeding, and i guess my blog post wasn't clear. If someone wants to be a project manager voluntarily and help organize it - I'm happy to sort of plan and open it back up. It will be end of Jan/Early feb before i consider anything. Part of this is that i have Autism and ADHD and if i don't think it through it doesn't work - so if anyone's WILLING and able to not just model but collaborate in the organizational sense .. There IS NO MINISTRY of "purity" Mixed race people have a history, they have their place in the world just like everyone else. Nobody is erasing anyone in this thread (except for the select few who keep arguing that this thread is pointless without giving good decent reasons) As for the historical tattoos of cultures in the pacific, whether it's Hawaii, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji - or anywhere else (Maori included) The idea of the historical TATTOO is not to say that you can't learn or respect the things from it - but let's just be real.. Would you wear box braids, a moko and samoan plus tahitian tattoos as well as an indian sari in real life? If you are mixed race, then sure YOU PROBABLY WILL - and nobody's saying anything about mixed race being an issue - the WHOLE THREAD WAS ABOUT MOKO in specific lol - IF you ARENT mixed race, or any of the races in question - Then are you just mocking the rest of the world? I mean in combination here, let's just be real - Indian Sari's are something used in a lot of the world and there's culture respect where you're given permission to wear these items ... (and then there's white people in tattoo shops banking off historical culture without permission) So yea, the trashfire thread is partially my fault i admit because i'm not clear enough in what i'm intending, i'm not clear enough in what i'm saying - and i'm not trying to start a WHITE PURITY THREAD. I'm white, i'm an american ex-pat, and most of my study in university was design and japanese culture - so it's not like i'm super versed on pacific culture - I know what i've learned from NZ media, and others around me - including my social work classes i took once. It's the knowledge from one's background that makes something more authentic, so if it becomes a thing where it's suddenly OK still to have these things in SL - we need to be more aware of the background, the heritage, and the history. Moko? No. As an expat, and someone living in the south island of NZ - i have no right to wear one of those in SL. If i were doing it for the sake of ART and creating a MAORI avatar for the sake of art in NZ - that would be different, but then like we've learned in univeristy, we learn and we research, and we ask questions - I got in trouble on twitter calling the "Americas Cup" a rich white people's sport, because despite it largely being a RICH WHITE PEOPLE'S SPORT - everyone is allowed to enjoy it. (Not me, i can't stand it LOL - i'm extremely against it as a sport, because i don't see what it does for NZ's economy besides annoy me every summer here) - Cricket isn't just for the rich, the Super Smash series was free today LIVE and in person in Mt. Maunganui - (Btw, we have no community transmission in NZ, we have live sport shut up lol) .... So for the sake of this argument, it's not about A PURITAN COUNCIL - it's about asking the right questions, it's about learning the history behind things. Nobody's taking your inspired Maori avatars away, and nobody's taking that tattoo off MP - but i'm pretty sure if you asked a bunch of education providers, plus tribes in NZ - they'd be asking why 1. it exists and 2. they're not getting a cut of it : D Now, hopefully my trashfire argument has been laid to rest and i can stop trying to track my words on here - I am happy to write a blog post that is more thought out on this topic - because it's a big deal with many people and i'm VERY BORED of typical euro-centric (White european that is) and american-centric (white again lol) - attitudes on "SOMEONE MADE IT SO I CAN WEAR IT" - It's not like Japan where they're OK with you wearing their tattoos, their kimonos etc.

I jokingly say hive minded, because I'm happy to make friends with anyone and everyone. While it's nice to have something in common, it's always nice to find something new to learn and experience! Music Project Model Search Ah, the life of being a designer in and out of second life! Oh how I may have left the ranks of the fashion designers, but in a way, I'm still tethered to Adobe's code like a pup to the treat jar. I am looking for volunteers to model for track covers, this means that you'll get professional second life photography done by me, as well as be featured on youtube and other platforms. No moving videos planned as of yet, most of the videos are still visualizers with the cover bouncing in the background. It's not about carving out spaces, so if i sound like that i'm sorry. It's always about education. Good god i'd never want to throw a mixed race person out just because they "ARE THE ROUND PEG FOR A SQUARE HOLE" (bad and really old analogy) . It's always about learning, it's always about existing. It's never about pushing people out. If you're mixed race, then you celebrate all of your heritage, why would it be incorrect for you to do otherwise? There will never BE a utopia anywhere sadly, but it's never going to be perfect no matter what we do.. And "balance" doesn't always help either. I guess i'm too nice? I just want there to be more equality in SL, and there hasn't been - and frankly, it's getting more and more like RL the longer i stay on it - and there's no telling what people are gonna try next. The original discussion was over a MAORI and Pasifika issue, and i stand by it - I live in New Zealand, and cultural appropriation in the format of not understanding OR CARING about the culture something comes from - is a HUGE deal, and academically and otherwise - If this was put outside the game and someone was a celebrity that was 100% white and no pasifika or maori heritage at all - and had a MOKU they'd be shunned if not sued. We just aren't fighting for cultural progress because "IT"S JUST A GAME" people scream, and then when we say that people get mad back - So what's everyone's problem then?

Thanks, because it's about time we created education around what's culturally OK and what's not. Inspiring from other cultures can be OK but it's about researching what's OK and what's not ok. Educate yourself before you end up in the wrong situation next time - i'm not the one to tell you what to do, i'm the white kid lol - but i'm trying to educate my ass before i end up in the wrong situation all over again. :)

And i'm irish and swiss, whiter than white - so i'm saying as a WHITE PERSON i don't have right to steal anyone else's culture cause beign expat USA living in NZ, i have no rights to even claim culture except bland AF food that was brought to us by our ancestors pillaging for spices adn then throwing them all otu the window. It isn't permission in some ways as more researching and education. IN terms of the tattoos of culture? I wouldn't dare wear Samoan, Tongan, Maori or any native tribal tattoos - and would be disgusted to walk into a store selling them that didn't have the histroy behind them. So yea, we're not creating issues, we're trying to SOLVE some by creating education around it.

not if you're of the culture that in question is being appropriated. I'm an expat american, i'm not going to make a Maori tattoo in my shop. Putting a moku on my chin unless there was a specific reason that in someone allowed me to (and even then i'd be hesitant) i would never in RL, why would i in SL. Appropriation is different than Flattering imitation - and Celtic braids are different than box braids. This is 2020. Let's freaking learn from crap, and just start listening to our peers. I could see if someone who was Maori was making them, but i'd be hesitant to let that fly in the game because then you'd see people wearing sacred art and whakapapa being used in the incorrect manner (i swear i think i just used whakapapa in the wrong context, so the person who started this thread - know i'm sorry, and i've lived in NZ close to 20 years and i'm aware roughly what whakapapa means, and i'm whiter than white ) I have a TRIBAL STYLE tattoo on my arm in RL, but tha's because it's not tribal, it's not even based on anything but a design i styled myself for my novels/comics i was trying to write - and still am. The thing looks more like a gothic DNA strand, and i brought that into SL to sell and share with people. There is forms of culture you can share and enjoy, and celebrate without ripping it off without permission.

Actually honestly, as much as some have not - Me and the estate person from RGF went through all that, cleared the landing point and it fixed it the first time. It's the second time that REALLY makes us laugh and baffled - because we just got done fixing the first one, and then VOILA the second time was when i set home at a specific point and couldn't set a landmark no matter high or low in the sky. We have it set and always have since getting the homestead to "Anywhere" - the only reason we cleared the landing point was because it was suggested by the RGF estates person. They had me clear it, i sat on the prim that marked the area in question (Literally a standard "CREATE" button box, and set exactly in the dead spot) - and the first time half across the sim from the second time - it cleared it and fixed it. Also noting NONE of the homestead bar the rental section (where we have the rent prim from RGF that we pay) is parcelled of anymore. We decided it wasn't going to help us because traffic needed to be shared across the land in order to help drive traffic to every point of what we had. So we don't have anything parcelled off except for the required area that RGF has sectioned off for the casperlet prim. The second time we noticed it, I was in my shop which again isn't parcelled off it's on the same sim - about 1-200m roughly maybe less from the other shop in question - and it's in an area i'd set my home point to. Now with me, my home point is set in the sky, rather than the ground - it could be there's a "HOME POINT" exclusion zone just for the user in question and nobody else has this issue. Normally "ANYWHERE" plus a landing point doesn't cause this issue, unless I wasn't aware where the landing point was set. The sim's owned by my RL/SL mother and we share the space with her. So if she set it to be the shop she used to use and recently let someone else take over - then my bad, you can't set landing point landmarks! As far as I was aware it wasn't there, and it was more towards the middle or the near the hangout. But yea, as a seasoned resident i'm quite aware (though honestly, it helps to go through everything when diagnosing glitch issues lol) - how the routing goes, it's just that i've NEVER seen this issue come up where you can't set a landmark on group owned land before even whe nyou haev a group tag on !

I could be pulling at straws here - but has anyone had the following issues: 1. unable to set landmark in similar trajectory or view to the set teleport point despite teleport being set near (unless this was because teleport was set THERE specifically when we got the place, i'm not sure that one got fixed earlier) 2. unable to set landmark in spot you set home to? All of these are set with land set to group, and 2nd time around was group owned ( We just set it to deed for easier handling) - Both times we've rezzed a box in place where the specific is. First time was in someone's indoor shop area in our marketplace on our homestead. Second time was in MY shop in the coordinates where i'd set home, but specifically 2000 meters higher in the sky on my platform. For reference: I've been to the estate rental place we go through, and that's why we got the first time fixed ( see #1 ) - but as soon as it was fixed about an hour later i tried to set a landmark in my sky plat form for one of our renters wanting to share space for rezzing and creation. Both me and another friend who are on this land with all this going on have been on and off SL since at least early 2007, my friend actually since 2005 - so we're utterly stumped.

Hosting at our place is laid back, we don't conform to normal "HOSTING" standards - you're here to engage with patrons, invite your friends and sort of just make sure everyone's welcome.
