  1. So, I signed up for Premium to get a houseboat. For various reasons, I have decided to try to buy a little piece of land instead. I found a little piece in a waterway that I love, but it is in a General region. I worry that will be too limiting, I have always lived in Moderate regions and never had to worry about anything. Is buying in a General region a bad idea? I don't have sex in my house or have parties or anything, but I do change clothes a lot, and try on new outfits. I can do that indoors, not sure if that is an issue (I think no nudity is allowed?). I have considered putting a skybox above the property and just having a beach down on the ground, so I could change and stuff up in the air. Thoughts? Thanks!
  2. That was on the 18th. The blog post advertising the new homes was made on the 15th. I signed up on the 16th. Honestly, I am over it, it is what it is. I just am annoyed at people who keep making condescending posts spinning things in LL's favor. Perhaps you live and breath SL/LL but some of us are just here to experience SL and don't necessarily want to keep up with the business stuff to do it.
  3. Yeah, maybe they should have only promoted them where the 'smart' people hang out instead of where the hoi polloi would see them and just read the blog saying THEY ARE HERE! and no do research to see that actually it was a work-in-progress. No reason for Patch or anyone to bother to just maybe, like, say that in the blog post announcing they were ready and available. Or the wiki linked to in the blog post. Perhaps they should have said go read the forums or something for us stoopids. At least I know better for next time they launch sometime, I guess. Maybe that makes me at least semi-smart now...
  4. Yes, and that just adds to the frustration. So, I have to be homeless or rent another place just so I can even see whether a home I want is available. Or log onto the site with an alt that doesn't have a Premium account.
  5. I guess that works if you were paying month-to-month, but as far as I know cancelling doesn't get you a refund if you bought an annual membership, which I did.
  6. Your Premium is only $12 a year? I seem to have missed that plan... Although I have been in SL 11 years and am very active, I don't follow the forums or SL PR. I found out about the new homes in the Destinations tab, where they had the models. Then I started logging on the SL site and looking at the blog feed to see when they were going to be available. I saw and read the blog post, and (stupidly) assumed I could get a house because there was NO DISCLAIMER of limited availability. So, again stupidly, I signed up for a year of Premium and went to get my houseboat, and guess what, no houseboats. So I guess the whole thing is my fault for thinking LL was going to do a competent launch.
  7. Then they should have said that. I did not see any disclaimers, just the promotion of the new houses. I do not remember the earlier issue because I had no interest in getting an LL house before the houseboats became available. As I said earlier, I guess overall getting even a crappy house is cheaper than I have been paying for a nice one, which I use only to change clothes in and rezz stuff at this point, but I really wanted a houseboat. My big concern was whether I could get one where the waves are coming in rather that going out or sidewise. I had a house once on a beach with waves coming in and sat for hours watching the moon on the waves in the dark. It is really hard to find such a place for a reasonable price, and I thought I had a chance with these houseboats, but I cannot even *get* a houseboat, so seems like that was stupid idea. And getting my hopes up with anything related to LL was even stupider. I am sure they appreciate you carrying water for them, though.
  8. Except getting a houseboat is the only reason I signed up. I have been with SL for over 11 years, and this is the first time I have been tempted. It does wind up being cheaper than where I live now, but the houseboat is what got me to make the move.
  9. Problem is, you cannot seem to see if a houseboat is available if you already have a house. I set up one of the old houses when the houseboats were not available, and just abandoned it so I can see what *is* available. Which is nothing new atm. I should have checked availability *before* I signed up for a year of Premium, I guess. I just thought somehow they would not be advertising something they could not provide. Again, no surprise with LL.
  10. This really sucks. I just signed up for a year of premium to get a houseboat, and there are none. What a ripoff. :( Classic LL...
  11. Wow, funny how things just work on some systems and won't on others. I have added every single package mentioned in this thread and every other linux thread I can find wrt running 32-bit programs in 64-bit install, and still have the same error message listed earlier in this thread. I really really hate to go back to 32-bit distro to get this one app to run.
  12. I am trying to run the viewer in linux, and am having a lot of issues, am hoping you can give me a little direction! I am running Ubuntu 12.04 on an i5, 2.67 Mhz, with 4 GB memory. The Ubuntu is 32-bit, so can't use all the memory, but memory doesn't seem to be a problem, always quite a lot free. I can log in fine, but I can't TP out of the region where I log in; if I try, it just times out, and kicks me out of sl (get the View IM/Quit popup). I can TP within the sim. Also, names of my contact don't load, and my groups don't load, and none of the fields in About Land are populated. I notice that my inventory seems to have hung up, too--it says it is fetching several hundred items, but never finishes. Finally, though this isn't a major deal, none of the media work, even thought I have load gstreamer plugin. I tried deleting all the files in cache (manually, in file system, not in Preferences) and deleting all the bridge files and rebuilding the bridge. I also have tried bandwidth at 300, 500, and 1500 (my download speeds are around 11, my upload around 1.4, and ping around 100 ms), and tried low resolution graphics setting. I downloaded several other viewers, and they all do the same thing, so it seems to be something with Ubuntu, but I have no idea what. :(((( I have spent the last few days looking through support sites for the various viewers on linux, and one thing that has popped up a few times is a nameserv (DNS?) issue, but I don't know how to check that or fix it. Oh, and one final thing, I added Ubuntu as dual boot to Windows 7, and the viewer works fine if I boot into Windows and use it there. I am sorry for the long email, but if you have any ideas I'd really appreciate it. I'd like to stick with Ubuntu, but if I can't get sl to work, that is a deal breaker for me! Thanks so very much for any help you can give me!
