  1. So, I'm back in SL after being gone for quite awhile. I was sick for about a year, came back for about a month, then needed emergency surgery. After a long recuperation, infections, etc., I'm back again. I have another surgery in my future but at least I know what this one will entail and hopefully that will be it!  Anyway, before I left, I had a photography studio and loved taking pics. An ex had purchased the PhotoLife system for me years ao, but most recently, I found myself only using a black or white background and doing all the work in Photoshop, unless I was shooting something on site. I found myself using the lighting controls sometimes and those two backgrounds, which I would then cut out in SL and edit in whatever background I wanted. Don't get me wrong, PL was great, but its quite primmy for someone who just uses it for a screen and some lighting.

I was just curious what people were doing these days with their photos. Are there any new "hot" or interesting photo systems out there in SL? I always aimed for the most realistic looking photos I could get, but I was never able to get my photos as crisp and clear as some I've seen. Just wondering if there are new viewers, techniques or tutorials that anyone might be able to point me toward, or maybe even some photography groups in world.  It's really crazy after being gone for a year but most of my friends have moved on from SL and my friend/contact list is so empty now. I'm feelling so alone!  Thanks in advance for any information and I'll be happy to help out whoever helps me in any way I can as well. Have a great day everyone!

  2. I just had the same thing happen to me, getting my account suspened because of a problem on LL's side and losing inventory items. I am beyond frustrated and so angry. I had been a Premium member since 2008. I got really sick and had been out of SL about 9 or 10 months ago, but I never cancelled or downgraded my account. I continued receiving updates to emails from groups, etc. so I knew my account was still active. At some point in the last month, LL had some issue with my Paypal information and suspended my account. When I tried to log back in, I was told my account was suspended for non-payment. I tried to use my Paypal again (which had plenty of money available and always did) and it wouldn't accept it. I had to put in a credit card to pay my balance and bring the account up to date so I could log in.

When I finally got back in world, I realized that many of my more expensive inventory items were just gone -  like an $8,000L Intan dance ball and a lot of my really good furniture. None of the cheap or free crap was missing!  I contacted LL support and was told it was because my account was suspended and that inventory will begin to disappear after a suspension.  They told me that they aren't responsible for any of it, but if I had downgraded to Basic before I left, my inventory would have been absolutely fine! I kept trying to tell the support  person I didn't make a decision to leave, I was out because I had been sick, but they refused to do anything to help me recover my items or even reimburse me.

The part that drives me absolutely nuts though is, I asked about my Paypal account and why LL suddently had a problem accepting it. I had used it to purchase other things outside of LL and had plenty of $$ available. They told me to try to use a different browser, delete the payment information and re-enter it. When I did that, everything was fine. So essentially, because of some glitch in their system, my account was suspended and I lost very expensive inventory that LL won't help me replace. I decided then to downgrade to Basic, since Premium membership clearly doesn't offer much. Other than being able to contact support, it really adds no value. I've only contacted them twice in all these years.

IMHO, Premium isn't worth it. I was sent that same survey and thought the same thing as the OP. They never asked what they could have done to keep me as a Premium member.

  3. I've received different varions of this in my spam email folder for years now. Sadly it's not a joke, these people seriously think unsuspecting people will get involved in these scams.  For awhile when I first started getting them, I was thinking I must be pretty well known or something that these laywers of royalty and such would even contact me lol...I've come to learn that it's a scam that's been around forever.  Sad that these people are now contacting forum uses.  Guess you're not safe from spam or scams anywhere on the net.  I remember learning in a high school business class "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".  I always keep this in mind when there's an internet offer in my email box.

    Have a lovely Saturday everyone!

  4. LOL this is great.  I've had those moments as well!  Most recently though, I was watching the news, and the newscaster was beatiful, with the most creamy skin.  I actually thought to myself, "Wonder where she got that skin, I need to go get a demo."  Very sad when I realized it was rl and I was stuck with my own skin and freckles. :)

  5. Innula - thanks so much for your reply.  Yes the laptop is the only prop that will be used in this chair.  It's a big easy chair, and the poses  are various sitting poses while the avatar uses the laptop.  Since I'm going to be selling this piece of furniture, is there a way to make it so the laptop visibility can be turned on and off by the user if I use the second option you suggested?  Ultimately I was hoping there was a way to have the laptop rezzed in the appropriate position for each pose if that's possible. I think there are three or four poses I was going to use.  Is that possible at all?  And if so, how do I make that happen?

Thank you again for all your help, I appreciate it so much!

  6. Thanks to everyone who answered in this post before. I ended up getting sidetracked with other projects and didn't get to finish with the furniture I was working on with the MLP engine where I wanted it to give out items.

In the meantime, I'm working on a chair that will have positions for working on a laptop.  I'm using a sit target positioner from BC Tech.  It does have a menu, but not the same kind of menu as an MLP item does, as it doesn't allow you to edit the menu at all.  All it gives you is the ability to choose Next Seat, Next Animation and to adjust the poses.  What type of script would I need for it to give out a laptop for the poses, and how would I position each one?

Thanks in advance for all your help, I really appreciate it.  This forum has been so helpful to me with getting my new business started.  Thank you all!  :)

  7. Just to follow up on this post - I was finally able to delete those those original prims from the building I rezzed after trying repeatedly for days.  One day it just finally worked.  I'm not sure why or what changed, they just finally went away when I hit delete, so I'm guessing it was some sort of glitch.  I didn't think to try it from the estate manager option or to reset the sim, butI will keep that in mind in case it happens again. Thank you all for the help!

  8. Oh I am so sorry to hear about your friend.  You and her family have my deepest condolences.

I am not sure what is the proper procedure for dealing with this type of situation on LL's end of things, if they would need to see a copy of a death certificate or something. I really don't know. But wow, the lack of compassion and sympathy in those responses were astounding.  Those answers appeared to be some sort of canned response, like they were typing directly from a script or something.  The response saying "Thank you for being a valued resident of Second Life" really took the cake though. Doesn't seem they value or care much about their residents.  It wouldn't have been hard for that person to have been a little bit more sympathetic and compassionate.  In any event, I'll keep you all in my prayers.

  9. Hi everyone!  I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not. Please forgive me if I'm in the wrong section, but it's not really a building question per se.  I bought a pre-fab store that was mod, and deleted some of the extra prims that I didn't need.  I then decided this store was entirely too big and too primmy to use and de-rezzed the structure, but three prims remained.  I tried deleting them, I tried taking them, I tried returning them, and they just won't go away!  It's the oddest thing.  I can move them around, and I am the owner of them, but I can't seem to do anything to get rid of these three prims from that building.  By the way, it's my island, an estate, and I have full rights there, if that makes a difference.

On the same note, I was building with some sculpties last night, and rezzed an example of one of the items, and the same thing happened.  I can't delete it, I can't take it, I can't return it. It's just stuck there. In this case though, when I'd try to take the item, I'd get a copy of it in my inventory, but the original would remained rezzed and won't go away.

I now have 7 prims on my land that I can't get rid of and it's driving me crazy, lol.  Anyone have any idea what I can do, or why this is happening?  I know SL gets really weird on the weekends, but the original three prims were from earlier this week.  Any suggestions or help anyone could provide would be very much appreciated.  Thanks so much!

  10. Hi there everyone!  I have a question or two about sculpties and haven't been able to find an answer anywhere else.  I apologize if this has already been asked but I haven't been able to find a previous thread.  I'm fairly new to building, but have been in sl for a few years now. I want to make some potted plants and flowers.  I have the sculpted plant panels and have been able to successfully create my plants with them, but I would like them to have that "flexi" look/ability to them.  When I look at that tab, that option isn't available when I use a sculpt map to create something, but if I just make a basic prim box, I can make it flexi.  Is this just a limitation of using sculpted prims, or am I doing something wrong when I'm creating my plants? If I need to use a prim template instead, I can do that, if someone can tell me where to find one.  All the ones I've seen though seem to be sculpted prims as well.  Any help anyone can provide would be very much appreciated!  Thanks so much in advance!

  11. Jo - Wow fantastic  tip!  Thanks so much :)  This will definately come in handy for photo shoots.  I've often wondered how to do this, and it really never occurred to me to edit the appearance.  I've been lucky to catch my eyes closed  a few times when I've needed it for various pictures, but this will make it much easier. Thanks for posting this!

Hey Hippie! This REALLY brings a huge smile on my face: please meet Greta, my new RL dog! She's 6 weeks old and will be at home on April 14th! Awwww! I already love her!

Valerie - OMG she is just adorable!!!!  What a beautiful girl!  I know you can't wait to get your hands on her, and give her lots of kisses and hugs. What kind of dog is she?  I'm a huge animal lover (I have two dogs, both rescues, and a parakeet in rl, and in sl - wow, loads of animals - manatees, sting rays, dogs, cats, a horse, frogs, fish, a dolphin macaws, all out and roaming around on our island. I'm sure I'm missing some!).  Pics of dogs and cats are another thing that ALWAYS make me smile.  Congrats on the new addition to your family!

  13. I know we've never met Hippie, but reading your posts are definately one of the things that make me smile.  You have such a wonderful positive outlook and your joy is just infectious.  Keep smiling Hippie :)

Other things that make me smile - my beautiful daughter, playing with my dogs, spending time with my partner in SL on our beautiful island, and exploring everything SL has to offer.

  14. It's interesting that you just brought this up. I recently posted a question here, asking how it would be possible for me to make some of my items available for sale and have the proceeds, ALL the proceeds, go directly to a known and reputable Japan disaster relief foundation.  My only motivation for this was to be able to use the gifts and talents that God gave me to help out those people who were affected by this horrible tradgedy.  Of the few repsonses, the majority implied that they would be very hesitant to donate to a resident such as myself because it could be a scam, and another person implied that it was a very good reason for me to promote myself, my business and get traffic for my sim.  Needless to say, I was a bit hurt.  I understand there are evil people this world, but not everyone is evil and only out to promote themselves.  However, I really did just want to help, and that's why I was researching a way to make sure the money went directly to a reputable relief organization.  After stating that in reply to the critics, there were no more replies on the thread.

I am a bit dismayed but I won't let the negativity of the people here on this board affect my desire to help people. It's very easy to shoot down other people's ideas but unless those critics are out trying to get involved themselves then their opinions ultimately don't carry much weight. I for one would love to see LL make it easier for residents to run fundraising drives through official channels so there's never any question as to where the money is actually going.  There are alot of good people in the world too, and I'll help anyway I can to make it easier for them to do the work they feel they need to do in their hearts to help out their fellow man.  Very good post Suella. :)

  15. I just love summer!!! Here in my little part of the world in rl it was 67 degrees farenheit and I definately have Spring Fever!  I can't wait to get out of the house more and enjoy the sunshine, now that the snow is finally gone.  Here's a picture from our sim, where we are lucky enough to have summer every day! :)

......Maybe if LL could give people official collection boxes to put on their land/businesses - any donations to those would go straight to the LL relief fund? But I do think it's best to keep it all 'up front'.

Something similar to a workaround should be this great idea of Winter Ventura:

We'll be promoting this as well. Thanks for the great ideas everyone!

Get a split proffit script and put in the vendor and then use Donation L:indens Avatar key as the proffit receiver and all money will go directly to the avatar. Set it for the percentage you like

You can do the same thing with a donation box on your land or in store

Great, thank you so much, we'll give this a try as well. :)

Great idea, and surely a great way to promote one's store or sim and draw a little traffic and all that. But I have to say, I'm a little wary of resident-run fundraisers, simply because there is no way to tell where the money is going to end up.

That's nothing against you of course. I just hope that people will have enough sense to stick with the official channels and donate the money to LL, or directly to the Red Cross. *coughs*

    *coughs*

I understand there are less than honest people in the world, but that is why I was looking for an official channel for the donations to go through immediately.  I wasn't trying to do this to promote myself or my store, I really just wanted to find a way to do something to help.  Not everyone is out to scam and only promote themselves.

  19. Hi everyone.  With this terrible tragedy in Japan, my partner and I have decided we really want to do something in SLto help raise funds for relief efforts.  We are working on making some special items that we will be offering for sale.  These items will be in their own separate vendor, and we want to donate all the proceeds of sales on these items to the Japan relief efforts.

My question is this - is there a group (or groups) within SL that we can give whatever Lindens we make on these items?  Even better would be some way for our vendors to just pay the organization directly when someone purchases one of the special items, so they'll get the lindens right away.  Anyone know of any reputable organizations?  I've done some searching in world but haven't found anything like I mentioned above.  This has touched us both so deeply and we really want to do something to help.  Thanks in advance for your help.

P.S. Sorry if this is the wrong area for this question - it kind of fit in a few different sections, so I took a chance a posted it here.
