Derendering works yes, but what if he has guests over? I mean sure they ciould derender it too if they are on Phoenix/FS but still kind of a hassle for everyone.

Y2K was funny. I had to pick up a friend from work about midnight... I had the radio going in my car and the DJ's were like, "I figured we would be alright, if the b*****d 3rd world countries crossed over OK I knew we were good". I had this old 1988 K car at the time and IT didnt even die. But it wanted to. That's another story.

Maybe it is your computer's hardware. whenever I remove and reinstall a viewer, I get a message saying SL might not run well. However, if my computer cannot run a certain viewer at all (most V2 and anything V3) then it just crashes when trying to launch. Keep in mind that your viewer does keep a hardware profile of your computer. I forget how to access that but it shows the graphics card, CPU, ISP and some other tech things. I would wager it is your computer that is unable to run SL and has nothing t do with being in trouble with LL.

Possibilities - Maybe they had to make some kind of adjustments to your account since it downgraded like check your land and return stuff, edit your account "rights" and whatever else... Maybe a glitch in the system - it is not unusual for things lke this to happen when SL is acting weird. Without the email, you can't really know. I would speculate though that it was just to make whatever downgrades to your account and maybe it would not have been possible if you were logged on. Kind of for the same reason that windows refuses to delete programs or files that are in use. I mean if you had got in trouble, the suspension would have been more than one hour surely.

so anyways - no one ever did say - how much did service for cell phones cost back in the late 80's? Was it reasonable like today? I remember in the mid-90's how pretty much all plans were by the minute and for land lines, LD calls were considered cheap if they were only 10 sents a minute. so does anyone know what it costed back then when this mostrosity was new in 89?

My SL seems to be lagging more and more slowly. I think part of it is cause my computer is probably biting the dust. Mesh, pathfinding, etc in SL probably isn't helping my cause. So I am stuck with V1 or early versions of V2. I just stick with phoenix cause it allows megaprim resizing. I am concerned though that maybe either my computer (built in 2007) or V1 might not be Y2K compliant.

There are always wars going on. The world will eventually end and the poles will eventually shift but if you are worried about something like WW3 than don't be. SL isn't going anywhere anytime soon and the world isn't gonna end anytime soon. Let's see - 1984 we were all gonna be under surveillance. Movies about it, songs about it, and while I was 10 at the time, but still I remember they ALWAYS talking about it being 1984 during that year, unlike any other, except maybe 2000. 1988/1989 - go look up the books "88 reason the rapture will be in 1988 ("89 reason for 89" didn't sell quite as well for some odd reason...) 1992/1993 was going to start the tribulations. I remember that was a huge fad saying the rapture was gonna happen and by 2000 it was all gonna be over. Y2K - Another conveniently forgotten year. Oh that one was gonna be BIG. 2001 - This year started the REAL millenium. May 2011 -The world was once again gonna end. They were SO sure this time! These are just the ones I can recall off the top of my head. You have probably seen and heard all this evidence that it will within the next few years but they are always saying that. And even if something did happen real soon, SL would be the least of most people's concerns.

They have been saying they were gonna do away with magic boxes for years now... Sometime in August was the last I heard. YEP, that sure happened.

At the technical level, yes SL is a game. There are smaller games within SL. One of my favorites is racing cars best I can with my crappy FPS. Either that or trying t get my opponents to crash while they try to ram me out of the race. All in good fun. What is NOT a game is people's feelings in SL. With losing furniture (no copy no doubt) that can be an SL error, I have had that happen on my OWN land after a careless clean-up of my own mistakes

It is easy to get caught up in the BS and drama of SL. But yeah, I always try to remember that whoever I am talking to in SL could be someone who doesn't have anything more than SL. For me, my computer cannot run SL worth a crap and things are getting worse with my computer on the fritz and SL getting more advanced so most of my time inworld is spent chatting with friends. The fascinating thing for me is it gives one the ability to talk with people in either text OR voice chat no matter where on the planet they are. I have a good friend a few hundred miles away in Kansas city and another one thousands of miles away in Ireland. Oh and one in New york and another couple in England. You could argue that messengers and skype have done that for years but in SL, you can share some fun times (adult related or not). But yes, all the BS and lag etc aside, SL has got to be a God-send for those who have very little chance to enjoy RL due to illness or disability. One just has to be willing to submerse themselves in the fantasy.

Holy crap! Today, that thing would cost probably $1500 given inflation. I mean if cell phones were still like that. Back then, I wonder if they EVER imagined that cell phones would get so small that you can easily lose one in your pocket. I mean who here hasn't said, "Shoot I forgot my phone!" and patted their pocket and said, "Oh there it is". So I need to ask this - how much was monthly service back then? I know these days it varies from $20 to $100 a month depending on carrier and plan. Just think - back then the only thing that phone did was make calls. No web, texting, apps etc... Oh also - in today's jargon, does ANYone still call it a "cellular phone"? Heck, it is almost to the point where people just call it their "phone" Cellular phone system. Gyod. I guess things change. I mean today it is not unusual to hear someone say, "Just take a picture of it with your phone" How technology has changed.

In an extreme case, have you tried re-installing your viewer? There are some hidden files associated with any viewer that would have to get deleted, I forget how to get to them but I am sure someone here will know. But yeah just try logging into other places from the welcome screen, just whatever regions you remember the names of. or if your welcome screen has some places to go, try one of them.

they had something like this about 20 years ago but it never really took off. Of course SL wasn't around back then. Some forms of technology just never make it very far. This one didn't make it last time so that might be why LL would not be quick to invest in this.

Typically with any culture, there will be the most popular forum, and then there will be the second most popular which is the one people go to when they get kicked off the main one. That is why "second choice" forums tend to be filled with immaturity. Sometimes the admin(s) of the second most popular forum are also refugees/bannees of the "first choice" I once did peek around SLU and yeah, it seems kind of cheezy.

Well, as SL is a pastime, it is not a necessity. Whatever money spent here is for entertainment. For some who make their RL living off SL, tiers might be a concern but for the rest of us it is just something to do. Sometimes people say things like "I am not going to pay money for a game" or as a friend of mine says, "I am not going to pay money for something that doesn't actually exist". Thing is, a lot of people in the world pay $100 or more a month for cable TV which reruns the same crap non-stop and has shows that are so ridiculous that one could not pay me to sit thru. So I figure I am pay about $12 a month for my tiny little 1400 meter land with about 400 prims and true it doesn't "exist" but it gives something to do. Money spent for entertainment in SL is well worth it I think. I mean in my case, i blow more tha $12 a WEEK at the vending machines at work (for junk food I don't need to be eating) The prices could come down, maybe. If you go to any continent, open the map and check "land for sale", 1/2 the map turns yellow with places up for sale But what seems overpriced in a VR is not a real problem, the problem is the greed in the REAL world where people are struggling and corporate greed isn't letting up. I mean for things people NEED instead of just want.

Amethyst, ok so where in FS does it show the option to rez things in the same position? For the OP - is there anything in the menus that would allow re-position? Sometimes they have those, it would probably say "position" and the menus then would have things like X+, Y+, or Z+ or maybe (letter) + 1 IIRC, when you do that, it tends to rezz things in the same relative position each time after. These types of poseballs MIGHT be just the ones that come from other objects like say clicking a bed that rezzes them.

what is weird though is this account seems to work OK. I mean if I am not suppose to be here, alright fine but just kind of trying to figure out the deal.

So this is an alt of my main account. Problem is, with my main, the reply, start thread, and PM buttons are inactive. My first thought is I was banned or suspended from the forums. Thing is, I had never got any type of warnings etc. I don't know if people GET warnings here or how that works? I had never got any emails saying I was suspended or banned. I talked to one of the helpers and she seems to think it is a forum glitch or something. I sent a PM to some user called Linden lab but not sure if they respond cause I know a lot of folks have had problems with support, especially non-premium So what is the case with warnings/bans/etc, how does that work? And unless I am banned, what could I do for my main account?
