It is always pretty slow to load up for the first time, but in 2.4, I seem to be having particular trouble. It won't load at all quite often and I'll have to close the window and try again multiple times to get it to work or even relog. Find seems to be working better now in 2.5. *** 2.5 Mongering Alert *** If you want to keep both 2.4 and 2.5 installed in order to test the differences between the two, at EVERY time you start the program, make sure you go to Me > Preferences > Setup and deselect install updates automatically. I have noticed if you open one version and then the other, it is now resetting this preference to automatically update. *** It downloads updates at the LOGIN screen before/while you sign in! *** *** Make sure EVERY TIME you open another version you deselect install automatic updates *** Or next time you close the program and login, you will be running 2.5. >Use External Browser I have gladly discovered lately that just bypassing the internal browser and loading profiles in the external browser can turn a 30-60 second wait into 5 seconds (of course not even half a second with 2.4). Just click the external browser button in the profile view in the upper right of the window. At first, I thought a lot of your options such as adding a friend and editing personal notes were left out of the external browser entirely. But you just have to login to the web profile to access them. It will make you login again every single time you restart the viewer even if you already logged into the web version (and yes, with your full name and password even if you keep selecting remember me). But full profile features seem to work in the external (even IM ... it loads the IM in the viewer) ... so it may be worth it for a lot of users.

Thx for the tip on AvMatch.com. It is really kindof frustrating that so many people in SL are interested in dating in SL, but it can be so hard to find locals.

I would like to add: if you are trying to update web profiles and make them accessable online .... provide a way to search for people by RL location (especially by city). IMVU does this quite well. There is a wonderful dating potential in Second Life, but by the time you fall in love, you realize they're in Croatia or something. Give us a reliable way to meet local singles!

* More Functional Web Profiles or None * I have fought the web profiles since their inception because of the slow down and their huge size while you are waiting. And don't you dare minimize them because they often fail and have to be stopped and refreshed. You will wind up restoring an empty window! And I think minimizing the gigantic window makes it slower to load too. If someone asks why you look frozen in space, just tust tell people you are waiting for Viewer 2.5 profiles to load. But in all honesty, I will have to admit that web profiles have potential. I was sincerely happier with the simple quick loading profiles on the side of the screen. But if you are going to have web profiles, realize their potential and make them as usable as other web profiles: - On your dashboard, make your friends clickable. Why make it difficult to view these web profiles on secondlife.com. - Increase the amount of information that can be on the profile. Multiple Pictures. More than freaking 300 character descriptions. Just glance at other sites online that offer profiles. - Consider making your groups clickable and interactive off your dashboard. Allow clicking profiles, IMming people, and adding personal notes about on secondlife.com - Make sure you can use secondlife.com to communicate. Add a wall or easy IM ability right off the website. Some people have to leave SL for a while for a number of reasons such as problems with the software, their computer, or a lack of time. These people might love to still communicate with their friends on the site. If we are stuck with a new web system and a more facebook-like Second Life, do it right. Jump in the water or get out.

Hello. I like SL and all the exciting posabilities it provides. I started using Viewer 2.3 and had a good expereince with it. I upgraded to 2.4 and then 2.5 However, in 2.5, I am having major issues with the new profiles option. My system is a 1.8 Ghz solo core on XP with a good graphics card. It ran SL fine before, but these web profiles are very unreliable and slow. It can take as much as 30 seconds to a minute for a profile to come up. This is because after 20-30 seconds to see if it might load, it will often fail and then I have to stop it and refresh. I have an 8 Kbps internet connection and no problem browsing with Internet Explorer or Firefox. It is just this problem with viewer 2.5. The search and find option is also very slow, but the find option is relable. I can search for something minimize it and come back 30-60 seconds later and the results will be loaded. This is not true for the profiles! I have to babysit them because if I minimize and check them later, they often do not load and need to be stopped and refreshed. Or it just goes to my profile instead! It is very frustrating because I like to check the profiles quickly of new people I meet. I really liked how 2.4 handled it on the side. It was out of the way so I could continue the conversation and did not take up most of the screen. Also, it was INSTANT. I could easilly check the profile on everyone in a group within seconds. I understand having a web profile offers new possibilities. You can allow the profile pics to zoom in and can allow people to access profiles on the dashboard on the web. You could also give them the option to be larger. I still do not understand why there are text character limits so small. Text takes almost no time to download and no server space to store. I sincerely think it would be best if you made the new web profiles an option and not a requirement. Have the way where it shows up on the side panel like before and have a button to view the profile on the web. This would solve so many problems. I would also like to note that the new feature to show your favorite places on the login screen is not working. I have enabled it and I have a few favorites in my landmarks. None of them show up at login; the drop down looks as it did before. I have downgraded now to 2.4 and am very happy about this. I hope you will allow it to continue to work. It is really a faster and better option.
