  1. Aparently, the solution to a leaky boat is to blast more holes in the hull with a shotgun for the water to drain out through.
  2. Strongly agreed. And I look forward to seeing Ziggy21 volunteering to assist with helping craft the exhibitor and moderator policy for SL10B. -ls/cm
  3. I'll be proposing this to the SL10B list of things to do. "Convenants set to grant permission for snapshots and machinima." "Guests, exhibitors, and performers grant permission to be photographed and/or filmed." -ls/cm
  4. Doc Grun's original material at Lauren's Place on Tuesday afternoons busts me up every time. (Way better than that dude with a bag over his head, eh -ls/cm
  5. Well, besides the regular SL live musician events I go to (Kyle Beltran, Grace McDunnough, Rich DeSoto, Cylindrian Rutabaga, Frogg and Jaycatt, Fricker Fraker, Matthew Perreault, some weird chick named Beth, etc.), I'll fire up IndieSpectrum Radio to get a sampling of what SLers are performing and such. Or when Marxie spins at Listening Room, yeah, there's some stuff in her collection that's a good kind of WTF. But I tend to hit the CD collection and listen to Cypress Rosewood or Born Again Pagans for some on-demand chill and mellow out and just kick back. Even at work, when I get sick of Planet Money, The Story, TTBOOK, Escape Pod, Drabblecast, Fresh Air, I've got all that in a "Whoah, is it four already?" shufflelist. Looking at iTunes... yeah, Matthew Perreault's "World Of One Percenters" rises to the top of plays, but for meaning, Zorch's "The Conversation Wasn't Over" was playing when I heard that Delinda had died, and "Not Just A Fragment" by Cyl, well, she knows. -ls/cm
  6. Nicest compliment? Hrm... I tend to just throw a ty back and get back to screwing up whatever I'm screwing up. I mean, do what you do, and do it. Let it get to your head, and you're doing it all for the wrong reasons. Av design, well, that's just assembling the work of others. The Five Islands is collaborative, I just brought the folks together and did the park, and even that's all stuff others make and sell, right? It's when I get an IM from someone asking if they can read one of my stories or things at an open-mike somewhere. Kinda cool, knowing I wrote something folks get a kick out of, it speaks to them or hits a chord, or when something like A Night On The Beach gives 'em a Hallmark moment. Rich Palmer/DeSoto's playing with "No Copy/No Mod" and improvising that verse for the venue, making up some crazy story each time.. busts me up every time. That's way up there, something you pick up, polish a bit, hand off, smoothed out a bit more, gussied up and such. -ls/cm
  7. Yes. Started as a podcaster, got ideas and tips from others on it. (Didn't adopt all that many of those ideas. I'm lazy.) The writing/poet/literature/storyteller community has sparked quite a few ideas for my writing, improved my delivery, and I enjoy hearing the writing/reading of others, recruited a few into the 100WS podcast over the years. And the residential community I'm a part of, well, we're there for each other. (Usually for good, and sometimes to knock a little sense into the temporarily senseless.) So, yeah, the connections are there, and they grow, they change, they matter. -ls/cm
  8. Good news... Runitai says it is being worked on: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/CTS-657 https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SH-2240 Runitai: "We're having some compatibility issues with the latest drivers from NVIDIA and ATI at the moment, mostly related to the viewer's use of deprecated sections of the OpenGL API. An overhaul is underway to address the issues."
  9. Just tried it with the new 2.8.1, and sure enough, Basic Shaders are still fail. I'm making a note to file a JIRA or add to any existing ones this weekend when I have the time to jump through all the flaming hoops, dot all the T's, and cross all the eyes. -ls/cm
  10. Yeah, I've been hitting that error with V2.7.X and newer. CPU: Intel® Core i7 CPU Q 740 @ 1.73GHz (1729.11 MHz) Memory: 8117 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 460M/PCI/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 8.17.0012.8019 OpenGL Version: 4.1.0 Googled it, saw on the nVidia forums that a new driver was on the way that should address problems. Good news: nVidia released a new beta driver this weekend: http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-280.19-beta-driver.html Installed, fired up new viewer: Second Life 2.8.0 (236429) Jul 21 2011 13:12:25 Bad news: Basic shaders are still a bit off: http://www.flickr.com/photos/isfullofcrap/sets/72157627314399378/ Oh well. (Fires up Phoenix.) -ls/cm
  11. Mr. and Mrs. Frog of Backintyme Productions used to do stuff from the 1850's. Not sure if they're still around. I think you can find info on them through Backintyme group or Raymond Frog av.
  12. Coworker was rendering some stuff, trying to model them into SL, so I went in to take a peek. System wasn't able to keep up with it, a bit of drama going on, decided to spend my time with those "books" things. Didn't come back for another 2 years. Podcast Pickle had been mentioning it a bunch of times, and there was a storytelling contest going on where the others were milling about here, so I figured might as well take another peek. Kinda got stuck the second time.
  13. Time for the first 800 pound gorilla in the room: Are unlicensed "tribute" bands performing for tips (and venue owners hosting them) live music, a musical performance, a building/animating/costuming challenge, or a copyright violation?
  14. What is your favorite place to listen to live music in Second Life? - Heron Island on Saturday evenings. Good back-and-forth with the performer and audiences. - Meatspace Lounge. Kyle's got the banter and the flow down to a fine art. Do you have a favorite musician? - No. What I want to listen to or engage with depends on the time and how I feel. But there are a lot that I like out there for their music, a lot that I like for what they do beyond the music, and there's a lot of overlap between those two groups. (My sister Beth will probably smack me for not reflexively saying MY SISTER BETH! the next time she comes down to visit. Heh.)
  15. - Props - Audience involvement, but keep control of the flow - Wry observations of SL from a skewed perspective
  16. I miss trhem because it was amusing to try to measure the mood at the lab from the bath of names that was newly released.
  17. After much consideration and soul-searching (didn't find one), I've had a change of heart. I’ve decided to give up any and all resistance to the concepts of Achievements and Ranks and Some Customers Are More Equal Than Others and embrace these new Community Web Portal Forums Ranks. So much so, that I’m going to start a new community, like tinies or furries or nekos. We’ll be the Tokens. To get started, just pick up your base Community Forums Rank Icon Avatar from Marketplace: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Community-Forums-Rank-Icon-Avatar/2012648 Or grab it for $0L from my Clocktree: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Edloe/135/125/64 Then customize it for your unique Resident needs. Once you’re finished, proudly show off your uniqueness to the Flickr gallery: http://www.flickr.com/groups/slranks/ Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200L. Go directly to Fast Easy Fun!
  18. The page would certainly load quicker without all those... um... what are they, anyway? People? Bowling pins? Potions? Pawns?
  19. I agree that the Snapshot and Machinima Policies need rethinking, but there is a way to get explicit permission from everybody attenting an event: Restict access to the sim/parcel where that event will be filmed to a single group. Then, if they want to attend that event, they have to join the group. On the group charter/description, you state: "This group is for the event EVENT NAME and you need to be a member of it to attend that event. By joining this group, you are granting us permission to film your avatar. You are also agreeing to minimize your avatar's ARC and script-load to reduce lag as directed by the event's hosts and security. By not joining this group, you will not be granted access to the EVENT NAME event, but are welcome to watch it streamed at PUT URL HERE or via the video archive at PUT ARCHIVE URL HERE. These terms are non-negotiable, and requests for access by any other means will result in that avatar being muted." Would that work, or is it too much of a PITA to set up and explain to the masses?
  20. *shrug* Some Residents are more equal than others.
  21. Beth Odets. (Because she's my sister, and knows where I live.)
  22. I'm sure I wrote down my username for Plurk somewhere around here...
