I live with it and do no complaining (at least publically).  Maybe you need to do the same?

People are individuals........they don't think the same and they don't act the same.  Wouldn't the world be boring if they did?

looks like one contradiction eating another....

when i want to complain publicly about ppl being total dillweeds, i will :))

    Define "vulture" please.

i'm down with ppl speaking their mind.

i like to do it too^^ i know i dont come across as wonderful all the time. most of us don't. i say some stupid crap, thats for sure.

but, a wake of vultures is how i mentally picture some of the commenters here! ready to swoop in & rip the OP's apart.... adding in unintended meanings, saying personally attacking things, & generally just making a stink in the air... leaving me with a bad taste for the forums.

it's not just here. i guess it is forums in general. i've saw a bunch of new moms in a little group i'm in, go apecrap on someone, making them flee in tears never to return.

*sigh* idk, i just wish it wasnt like that is all.

If you're not happy with the land fees, don't buy any! If you don't think you're getting your money's worth, don't buy any! LL will continue to sell so long as people continue to buy. See how that works? They're not going to change their MO for you. Or him. Or her. Consumer power is in numbers, not disgruntled singles.

  4. your response reminds me of how multi-faceted running any business is, but especially one that is so groundbreaking & changing all the time.

i think what you say about watching the Marketplace as a sort of barometer is an excellent idea.

  5. i know what u mean Angus lol! it can be so frustrating... it feels clunky to me. so many issues, so many steps & clicks, & go here, go there... inworld, marketplace, website, forums, all these places we have to log in & out of.

every single time i've contacted the chat support, they tell me they cant help with that problem. i roll my eyes b/c i knew they'd say that! & my tickets have also gone ignored. many.

however... i have seen glimpses, i think, of where they might be trying to head... not sure of course, hence my confusion!

but i had an opportunity to take part in a LL survey which was very thoughtfully constructed about a year ago. it specifically addressed my user needs & allowed me a chance to feel heard. it was visual, easy, & resonated with the "Your World. Your Imagination" motto. i was like "ooOOOo"! but a year later... i'm wondering if they ever finished that whole project... it seemed to go nowhere.

then when i tried to upload my 1st mesh experiment, i was prompted to go through a tutorial / test that i had to pass, about intellectual property. i liked that! it was informative, & easy, & shows LL cares about that topic.

    anyway blah blah blah

Oh, good, I'd like to take part in that discussion.

SL, at the moment, would seem to be stagnating at best, but I'm afraid it would be degrading.

There appears to be very little in the matter of service and listening to residents.

Support tickets are very limited, especially for free accounts (helloooo, anyone? Free account doesn't mean that people do not take part in the SL economy, just that they do not feel like paying for Premium, or cannot afford it)

Office hours (sorry, usergroup meetings) are somewhat limited too.

Abuse Reports seem to be ignored quite often, whatever the matter, from Harassment to copybotting (I know, I know, you do not receive feedback. However, seeing an effect would be nice, otherwise it is entirely useless, just remove the whole thing if you don't want to be contacted at all).

Talking to a Linden is just impossible. "Use the Knowledge base", "Hit F1", "use the proper channels and send a Support Ticket" (surprise, free account, can't do on a lot of subjects), what is the point of having avatars if they appear as humans as bots?. You may try to contact them but it is extremely rare to receive any kind of answer. The last time this happened to me was more than a year ago. Yes, they may be inworld to work, but in a somewhat social media, talking to residents might just show you care.

Why do these threads crop up every so often from disgruntled members? Is it to get attention from the Lindens? Do they really think one gripe will make much difference? I mean, it's kind of like threatening suicide. Most people who intend to commit suicide don't give warnings. They just do it.

Same with people who truly get fed up with/burned out on/sick of SL. They don't carry on with long farewells. They just go.

If you need someone else to point out the good/bad reasons for you to stay somewhere - anywhere - you maybe should have left a long time ago before your ability to enjoy it hinged on other people.

you must not have actually read my original post... its a question. i really want to hear other opinions & am enjoying this thread. i wonder why so many ppl waste time out of their day to put others down.

    i believe in SL.

Reading the OP I see two things being asked about.

First is really Linden Lab's business model.  That is a subject of a lot of speculation.  Supposedly the purpose is to make money. As much as possible.  But many find land costs a big hindrance. Personally, I don't believe I know enough to really calculate how over priced land is.  I've seen a lot of numbers thrown around and some I consider very good educated guesses, but really, none of us know how profitable SL is.

The second thing is User Experience.  For me it is still "Your World, Your Imagination."  I am still enjoying "My Second Life." The only limitation I see to that is scalability, how much computing power there is available both server side and client (user) side, and the tubes that connect them.  This is a great discussion of Virtual Worlds and scalability I highly recommend:

If Linden Lab folds as a company it will be because of bad business decisions.  The interest in Virtual Worlds will remain.

I am of the opinion that Virtual Worlds and the interest and participation in them will continue to grow.  The biggest limitations will be scalability and ease of use.  And honestly, it is not that hard to learn the basic 'navigation skills' in SL.  The biggest problem as I see it right now is how poorly designed notifications (toasts) and the chat window are in the Viewer.

i enjoyed reading your thoughtful response. & i agree with the toast problem! i feel disconnected from everyone in SL... i miss so much

  8. I really am wondering what other people think regarding this topic. Please share your thoughts!

Annnd, where is SL now? I find it difficult to guage why people log in SL these days.

I'm thinking about only using the Marketplace to sell my wares, as I know plenty of others are doing as well, especially now with the improvements to the site. But it makes me wonder then, why would I pay so much tier for land? I hope SL is going to soon add features that make the land more valuable for residents.

    I'm confused...

  9. I am wanting to pay someone for building a custom mainstore. I have vague concepts of what I want/need, but need your expertise to help it come to life. Hopefully it will lead to a partnership where I can call on you for help in the future too, & pay again for perhaps an event build for my island, or a welcome area, etc.

I am looking for someone highly conceptual/creative, with a refined sense of style. You MUST be familiar with store design & be able to show me examples of your directly-related work.

Please take a look at the builds I site below. Take note that I am seeking ROUNDED SHAPES, BAKED TEXTURES, FULL PERM BAKED TEXTURES so I can alter the walls, floors, etc whenever I want, & MOD/COPY PERMS on the building.

I really love the style of Hydro Homes.

This store by Abiss, looks nice to me & I like the simple shelves plus the built-in poster displays.

Basically I need a store that feels real & showcases my products, easy to navigate, built-in lighting effects, displays, etc. If it can have some modular components as well, that would be good for expansions. My store style is not so serious as these builds tho. I would love for a sense of humor or quirk to be built right into the store. For instance, if you can somehow blend - dollhouse meets modern meets old meets the dreamworld with a garden in the middle. I can be more specific later!

Please send an inworld NOTECARD to me if you are interested. I have to see links, SLURL, photos, & similar builds you have done. I need an expert so please tell me how you can help me create a professional looking store that ppl love!

Or feel free to leave your links/info here.

DO NOT BOTHER APPLYING IF YOU HAVE ADULT CONTENT IN YOUR PROFILE.

    Thanks!

  10. Hello, I have a store & want to consult with an expert store builder. I'd like suggestions for how to improve on my current build & displays. I will pay for your time...30 minutes to an hour will hopefully suffice.

If you are interested, please send your info in a notecard or answer here with links. I have to see pics of your work! Include any pertinent SLURLs too please. I will also need to know how much L$ you want as compensation for your expertise & time!

    Thnx! ~MiaSnow Myriam

  11. Hey! :matte-motes-agape:

    Do you like to fish?

There is a new fishing zone on Twomoons Island & I hope people will come catch all these great exclusive prizes from Rue (HORNS!) You can also catch official 7Seas wearable pet fish, which are so cute & transfer-OK so you can lavish your friends with gifts!

All you need to have is a 7Seas fishing rod. If you need one, check the gear vendor right near the dock (on the left of the area shown above, which is right near where you will land.)

I caught this adorable fish flying around my head, the eyepatch, & these exclusive horns with tentacles.

  13. I'm having trouble saving snapshots to my hard drive, and trouble uploading images into SL. sometimes it works a few times when i 1st log in, then stops working. what happens is, when i click for a snapshot, it opens the little window for saving options... but when i get to the SAVE button, the connection seems to be lost between SL & my computer. i am unable at that time to navigate thru folders, and SAVE/CANCEL buttons are non-existant. then i click the window shut & it either freezes SL for about 30 seconds or it crashes.

similar situation when trying to upload images and it has happened when trying to upload animations as well. i can do a few on 1st login (usually but not always), then it quits letting me navigate my folders. i relog & sometimes that helps other times not.

here is what i find odd. i used to have no trouble at all, then i got rid of that PC. since then, i have tried 2 different new quad-core PC's with Windows 7, and both have produced this problem. i use the SL viewer 3 and have the latest update. i tried a 3rd party viewer too & it just flat-out crashed when i tried to take a pic.

    any suggestions?

    i have intel i5, 2500

    8GB

    64bit OS

    NVidia GTX

    Thank you,

    ~Mia
