I was able to download the new viewer...and got on late last night. It may have been just the SL servers...but could see friends on when in my account. I can get in now using my original shortcut. Thanks all for the responses.

was on last night...got kicked off...Windows message says SL has stopped working.  Windows just says a problem caused it to stop working properly.  Is this just me?  I've deleted SL.. downloaded it again...no change.  What should I check?
