  1. That would be ideal, but I'd also imagine that those figures could also be inaccurate to a degree as well. While the survey type you suggested would account for the body type worn at the time of conducting the poll; it doesn't take into account for people who own multiple bodies and may be using one over another at any given time. I own multiple mesh bodies (as I am sure others here on the forum do as well), including Maitreya; So if I was wearing it at the time the survey was conducted it might be a little misleading. The most recent poll has 2,300+ voters. The more realistic approach would be for everyone to spread the word wherever possible.
  2. The Tonic Fine number is really interesting. I guess it could be quite possible that their community was able to rally and have more respondents. Maybe I have been oblivious to it, but I don't remember even seeing an increase in support from the typical vendors at major events, or through many of the vendors I shop at. Perhaps people that own that body shop in a different circle which is bigger then I anticipated, but its always been my understanding that their community has always been starving for content.
  3. Based on comparative survey results as of June of 2017, it looks like Freya is up by roughly 4%, while Maitreya is down 20% respectively. The data also suggests, that as expected, more users are shifting away from static mesh heads in favor of Bento models. I'd like to think that is is reasonable to assume that Belleza may pick up some more growth when the next update goes live. I know a lot of users are waiting on Bento hands. Even more interesting is if we look at data from 2016, it shows TMP as the dominant leader for men at 12.9% share. Today that number sits at roughly 3%.
  4. I'd highly doubt they would; the terms of service are quite clear (see blow). In fact, this reminds me of a situation that happened back in 2017 involving breedables; whereby residents lost the ability to feed their animals and thousands of pets died as a result. While injunctions were involved in that case; I am afraid had it been not for that, the outcome would have been the same from LL's standpoint. " The Service may contain links to or otherwise allow connections to third-party websites, servers, and online services or environments that are not owned or controlled by Linden Lab. You agree that Linden Lab is not responsible or liable for the Content, policies or practices of any third-party websites, servers or online services or environments. Please consult any applicable terms of use and privacy policies provided by the third party for such websites, servers or online services or environments." *This portion of the TOS is most relevant to the topic; however, there are other notations within the TOS which further corroborate this.
  5. The biggest perk with Maitreya is that it has great product support. I also like that her body also includes Bento hands. The HUDs' are IMO very comparable. I might give a slight advantage to Maitreya for her HUD being a tad more responsive and for the alpha pre-selects, but in general; both are easily to use and have most of the same features. When it comes down to the visual look of the body; I prefer Belleza. I don't like the way the butt and mid section look on Maitreya. I am also not a fan of how the shoulder blades look with small shoulders on her body. Support for Belleza is good, so there are definitely a lot of creators making content compatible with it.
  6. aww, I love those lmao ... Bree, reading your post for the first time made me think of John Cusack in "Say anything" when he was asked what his plans were for his career. He said: " I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. You know, as a career, I don't want to do that." lol In all seriousness though; style and texturing. I have seen so many adorbable hair styles that I'd love to wear if not for the botched texturing job. Hair IMO has evolved the least in the last few years. I do love that more vendors are jumping on board with a style HUD, and now a few are including hairbases built in.
  7. Even if we were to give them the benefit of the doubt, and they announce Bento is here; would you really want to invest in their brand knowing their past track record; what can and will happen if they shut down their servers? Their product was released at a time when there was little to no competition, and yet they squandered that opportunity. Product support was and still is terrible. I cringed at the thought of having to use my HUD. I think it is reasonable to say that it is their last ditch effort to milk the cow one last time. If you had been to their store just prior to this sale, you would have seen that it was usually a ghost town.
  8. Maybe she owned the same dress and got a bit salty that you had it too. Since I want to be PG here, I'd be nice and tell this manager. Although I'd prefer to say something far more sinister.
  9. The group notice is just one way of keeping in touch with your base; whether it is to announce a new product launch, advertise a sale, or communicate anything else you feel is pertinent for your customers to be aware of. The gift itself is supposed to encourage people to remain in the group, and or to buy through reciprocity. Mileage will obviously vary between vendors for any number of reasons, but I'd like to think that periodic gifts are more effective at managing group retention. A vendor should consider that gift to be an advertising expense. Do you charge entry for your group is a matter of opinion, but should be largely based on what your focus is, and how much effort you want to put into it. Personally, I don't care for people charging for demos. I am not going to say I have never paid for a demo, but I can say I haven't purchased some demos as a result of the fee, even if it was 1L. The nickle and dimes you earn from those demo sales could cost a vendor a lot more in lost revenue.
  10. They want to ensure people are not using the marketplace as a means of free advertisement. So if I as a vendor was selling photography services and not doing it according to the TOS, I would be able to get all of the upsides without having any of the negative costs associated with obtaining that business.
  11. Since not every skin maker does Omega head appliers; having a head which is widely supported is going to give you access to a lot more options. @lavalois was spot on. Logo has about 2% market penetration at the moment based on a poll conducted earlier this year. If you go to Logo's webpage, they have a full directory of creators that support that head. http://getlogoed.net/applier-directory-3/
  12. Most skins I've seen do not have their makeup baked into the skin itself. That is a bit more common with group gifts, and sometimes for seasonal type releases. Pink Fuel does have body appliers specific for each body in addition to omega appliers. The omega appliers are great if you have a few different bodies; this way you don't have to buy the body specific appliers for each one. If you're on a tighter budget, you can pickup a basic head from Catwa for roughly 900L. The Bento heads are superior, but they cost in the area of 5,000L. Any Catwa skin would work on both the basic and Bento head. Just food for thought.
  13. Going based off past launches; it would be expected that the new 2080 would be similar in performance, but faster then a 1080Ti. Now before you assume what he should buy, we should probably know if he plays games and at what resolution? You buy a video card that is going to give you the performance you need for the resolution you play at. Arguably a 1080Ti is overkill for 1080p gaming. The next gen cards may very well be over $1,000, but an announcement is expected sometime in the next month. For that reason It would just make sense to wait and see. Rumor has it that both AMD and Nvidia are working on releasing mining-focused graphics cards which would ship with a slightly lower price tag and no video connectors. That would make them useless for running a gaming PC, but perfect for mining rigs, and could help keep prices down on standard GPUs. That may finally present an option that has some impact on pricing, but few such cards have appeared so far. Maybe more to come there. I know people do it all the time, but I personally wouldn't buy a used video card unless I knew who owned it before me.
  14. In terms of options, there are plenty. If you want a head that is going to give you access to the most content and has some of the best animations, you really only have one choice and that is Catwa. I own multiple heads from various brands and the only thing that comes close is Lelutka, and even that head is limited in terms of content in comparison.
  15. They can call it a crap on a stick, the point is, that generally speaking; the next gen cards will have a bump in performance over their predecessors. While AMD's current gen cards have been a bit of a letdown; their next gen stuff will put more pressure on NVIDIA. That is a good thing.
  16. I know why the thread started. My comment was to someone who thought it was asinine that they didn't remove that known content. I quoted them. I'd also note that Linden Lab is a privately held company.
  17. It is believed that sometime in March NVIDIA will be announcing their next gen card. The 2k series (known as Volta) will be a decent bump over the current gen cards and there is a possibility that pricing will come down by then. So if you're in the market for a 1080, I'd wait a little while longer. Also keep in mind that the 1070Ti performs very similarly to a 1080. If I was buying this late into the cycle I'd be looking at the Ti variants. You might be able to save a few dollars, or get a little more bang for your buck going that route. As far as card manufacturers go; I am a big fan of EVGA. Their service and warranty support is IMO superior to all the other card manufacturers.
  18. How did this thread turn into an ad for club Noir?
  19. Catwa makes both static, and Bento mesh heads. The skin you received as a gift would work with either of those two models. The static heads cost roughly 900L, and the Bento models are generally in the neighborhood of 5,000L. Keep in mind that the Bento heads are superior in many ways (newer tech), but the two biggest reasons to go Bento is for the ability to customize the shape of your head, and these heads also feature more points of animation. So their facial expressions are more lifelike. Catwa has demos of all of her heads at her mainstore. Use the link Skell provided and try some out. You will be able to test your gifted skin on the demo as well. Let us know if you have any other questions.
  20. I'd settle for an official app that allowed me to chat with friends in world from my mobile. While I am wishing upon a star, I'd also like a mobile friendly version of the MP. Please see to that LL; post haste.
  21. There is good reason why LL only does the minimum that is required for them to be compliant with copyright law. Do you know how much work it would take to vet all of the products being sold on the MP; not to mention the potential liability that may come as a result. Do you have any idea how much content in SL is in violation of copyright? Sure, there are original content creators on the grid, and some that do use 3rd party works have license to do so, but many do not. For example, the tattoo market is riddled with infringed works. That picture you bought to decorate your home, the graphic on your t-shirt, nails or bag may even be suspect. This kind of behavior is not just limited to lesser known brands.
  22. Let's cross that bridge when we get there. As far as the rest of your post, it is lengthy in size, but with no clear message and full of fluff. Sometimes less is more.
  23. "I just threw up in my mouth a little bit"
  24. The TOS states and I quote. "You are solely responsible for your interaction with other users of the Service, whether online or offline. We are not responsible or liable for the conduct or content of any user. We reserve the right, but not the obligation, to monitor or become involved in disputes between you and other users." So it appears that in some circumstances, LL does get involved; however, it is within their discretion to do so. I'd be surprised if they issued a suspension for being in a public place, unless of course; your interactions with this other user were deemed as inflammatory. I am assuming that more was probably said between you and this other user that deemed the suspension appropriate. Section 1.4 of the TOS states: "Linden Lab is a service provider and is not responsible or liable for the Content, conduct, or services of users or third parties." Linden Labs does make a concerted effort to reduce this kind of activity by providing users with tools such as the review system. We can all agree that the marketplace isn't without its faults, but considering the volume of transactions that goes on daily; I'd suspect the number of fraudulent transactions as you described is quite low.
  25. If unscheduled service outages were a common occurrence, I would agree; but IMO they aren't. For that, we should be praising LL. It is quite OK to give credit, where credit is due. As frustrating as it may be, it is within reason to expect that service outages may occur periodically for one reason or another. As Alwin pointed out, LL also incurs a financial loss when services are interrupted. Nobody is compensating them either. The TOS Second Life has is not all that different from what you might see in a video game, or from an Internet service provider as just two examples. Usually they are specific and also ambiguous for a reason. It is to cover a large range of situations in which a provider might choose to deny service. As a business, they have no interest in doing so; unless those using that service are not acting in what the provider might deem good faith.
