  1. It took me a long time to settle on an overall style for my av, but I've looked this way in one form or another (via different mesh parts/skins) for nearly a year now. Considering I used to feel like changing something every few weeks because I wasn't quite satisfied, I guess this means I've finally "found myself" in SL.
  2. It all depends on where I am, and who I'm with. My usual hangout works hard to be an immersive RP style sim, and people there do a good job. It's a team effort, really - everyone kinda shares the same goal. We might not all be trying to live another life, or be another person, but in some ways we're all looking for a little escape from the everyday. SL gives you all the tools you need to do that. It just comes down to finding the right people to do it with.
  3. There's a lot out there...old, new, strange, beautiful...SL is a very unique place, definitely worth taking the time to appreciate. 😄
  4. The DJ at my regular hangout decided to do a Queen themed songlist tonight, so at the last minute I threw together this outfit. My av doesn't have dark hair, but I think it still worked out pretty well.
  5. The pose says relaxing, but the face says up to no good. ?
  6. Picked up the Gerard head from Vista; I figured if I was ever going to pick up one of the higher end bento heads, I might as well grab one at a discounted price. Hair is from Stealthic, skin is Zerek by VYC, and the mesh body is Nardcotix David.
  7. A few tweaks since the last time. The list is as follows... Head: Lightstar "Robin" bento mesh head Body: Nardcotix "David" Hair: Dura - Boy #44 Eyes: Avi-Glam Ardor Green Skin: VYC - Dante #2 Beard: Purfect #6 Suit: GAS Clothing "Social Suit"
  8. So this took me a little while to put together but I think I'm happy with where it's at for now. I wanted to do something a little different from the usual choices you see when it comes to the mesh body parts. I also didn't want to spend quite as much as the usuals cost. This is the NX-Nardcotix David mesh body, paired with the "Robin" bento mesh head from Lightstar. The head & body skin is from VYC (in their tone #2), who include a Nardcotix applier for the body, and the head was omega (Dante skin #2). I'll probably keep tinkering with it but I like how it turned out. Plus, a little more grey in the hair & beard and I think I could pass for a TV dad from a 90's sitcom.
  9. Looking back at my old stuff is almost cringe-worthy...but I don't begrudge the avatars of the time. We did the best we could with what we had. Then: Now:
  10. The key to free/cheap stuff as a male avatar is vigilance - eternal vigilance! The really good-looking stuff doesn't come up that often, but when it does you have to pounce on it. Eventually you'll build up enough of a collection to build multiple outfits/looks. This thread is a great example, as it pointed out a few things I otherwise would've missed. The last few years have been difficult for me financially, and I know in the economic circumstances we've had the last 4 or 5 years I'm not alone. Putting money into SL is a luxury I can't always justify, and I'm always appreciative of the content creators who are willing to give quality stuff away for free (or almost free). Those are the people I return to when I finally do have a little money I can justify spending.
