  1. Always lived on the mainland and always left my land open welcoming wanders. There are some parts of the mainland that have developed ugly, lots of advertising and ugly buildings and so on, well you shop around a bit and find the nice places. As for neighbours, a bit of friendly conversation usually handles any problems. Private sim? yeah sure i have a block of 16 of them, it's called sim on a stick. Cost = 0 and I am never bothered by anyone.
  2. Did you try a clean install yet. That will fix it if the problem is a corrupt inventory cache: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 the important bit is when you delete the folders under AppData.

  4. You can check if someone is online with a script, they don't have to be on your friends list or a group and you don't even have to be logged in yourself. I have one that displays the list on a windows desktop app. Of course I am a nice person and don't use it to stalk people or any other bad things. Like any tool it can be misused. ETA There is an article about the legitimate usage here: http://blog.nalates.net/2012/02/27/sl-scripting-ug-news-week-9/
  5. Alwin is probably right but if you are using windows you should look at the event logs and see if there are any error events. To view logs type Event Viewer in the search thingie. Look in the Windows Logs folder look at the Applaction and System logs for the time. Errors have a red exclam icon. Another fun thing you can do is download NetBalancer from here https://netbalancer.com/download and see what is using up your bandwidth and even restrict it.
  6. see Rolig's answer here: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/Waiting-for-region-Handshake/qaq-p/1287323
  7. Also please clarify if it is the whole screen flashing or just the SL viewer.
  8. You don't say anything about your computer specs or your internet connection or any error messages you get which doesn't help. You also don't mention anything that you have tried to fix the problem. If you have Alts that log in without problems then, as well as other suggestions, you could do a clean reinstall of your viewer, to make sure that your (main avi)'s cache is deleted in case it is corrupt. Also make sure that your inventory does not have folders that contain thousands (more than 5000 is a problem) of items all at one level, i.e. without sub folders. This is sometimes referred to as a 'flat' directory structure. It may cause a timeout while fetching the items which will effectively disconnect you from SL.
  9. This may be useful for you: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Shoutcast_-_radio_controller_v0.3_(remake_of_similar_scripts)
  10. Maybe this: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_textures_discarded
  11. Kitty, you could use your super powers and make the sim intangible.
  12. Think of it in terms of camera position. Use the camera control (button with Eye Icon). There are 4 preset views Front, Side Shoulder and Rear Views. You can also mess around with settings in Preferences/Move & View
  13. Well it is quite a low spec pc, particularly the graphics card and you are running the most bloated viewer. Your card isn't even listed here but a GTX 660 is a good starting point for running SL http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/geforce-desktop-graphics-cards-uk.html And your CPU is way down on this comparison list. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+FX-4100+Quad-Core I love Firestorm but it does need a fast pc with a half decent graphics card to run smoothly. So, my suggestion is try Alchemy viewer which runs a little lighter and save up for a nice new PC.
  14. You give no info about your system, so, first look at this link and see if it applies to you: wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_intel_fix_32bit_fs473 The next thing to do would be a clean install carefully following the steps here: Doing a Clean Reinstall If that doesn't fix the problem join the Firestorm Support English group they have Firestorm support guys there most of the time.
  15. As well as what Alwin says, next month, when you only own the one 1024 plot you will be billed again for the 4 plots unless you go to your account and set the correct land usage band
  16. Some info here: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Linden-Dollars-L/Auto-process-credit-for-charity/qaq-p/2796682
  17. Hmmm. You start off with "Disk Usage is constantly at 100%" and finish up with "not understanding what's causing the sharp increase in 'system' and 'Windows Audio' usage". If your disk usage is 100%, i.e. your hard disk drive is full, then your viewer won't work because it needs disk space to write cached files. You can see how much space you have on a disk from File Explorer, right click on on the drive and select properties. How much disk space does it say is free?
  18. Firestorm "Locks Up" on "Initializing VFS" If this occurs, chance are good that the inventory cache is corrupt. Deleting it should solve the problem. Locate your cache folder. You will probably need to do this manually, if you are unable to log in. Use a file manager (like Windows Explorer for Windows system, Dolphin, or some such) to locate the cache folder. In its default location, the cache folder is hidden on most OSs. To find it, you will need to show hidden folders. Default cache locations are: Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[uSERNAME]\Local Settings\Application Data\Firestorm Windows Vista: C:\Users\[uSERNAME]\AppData\Local\Firestorm Windows 7 and 8: C:\Users\[uSERNAME]\AppData\Local\Firestorm Mac: ~/Library/Caches/Firestorm linux: ~/.firestorm/cache In this folder, locate the files named data.db2.x.* and index.db2.x.* (where * is a digit: 0, 1, 2, etc; you may have more than one of each type of file) Delete all files that match these two names. Log back into SL, to a quiet region (try Hippo Hollow, Aich or Hatton). Allow your inventory to repopulate fully. Windows only: If the above doesn't work, then click the speaker icon in the system tray, then touch the volume slider, just enough to change the volume slightly. It may be that the Windows sound system has stalled; this should “give it a kick”. The support group inworld is Firestorm Support English if the above doesn't work.
  19. On thing that may be causing confusion is that PG isn't called PG anymore, it is called General, Mature is now called Moderate and then you have Adult which stayed the same when it was changed, a few years back now. You may still see references to the old system in the Wiki and blogs etc.
  20. You have quite a small SSD but loads of ram so one option is to put the cache on a RAM disk. Here's how: http://atob.ws/RamDisk.aspx.
  21. Talking of former trolls, where is our resident GD troll? Summer holiday?
