does it?.. am online for past 8 hours and experienced nothing, but could be because i'm not traveling a lot.
But also just the posts here that tell about problems.. might be not gridwide.

Caspervent issues don't mean SL is having issues, they run their own system.

In this particular case it does.  Every system that depends on an outside connection is down.  LL just hasn't woken up and announced it officially yet :)

FFS - I've had a long career in IT and the BASIC rule is that you set up your backup procedure and then you TEST your backup procedure before you make any changes because sh*t happens and LOSS OF DATA = LOSS OF CONFIDENCE.

I've lost weeks of effort getting my Place Pages just the way I wanted them and people wearing Shrek Ears really don't seem that cute to me right now.

Don't know when/if I'll have the confidence to go back and do it all again.  Too bad because I was one of the Place Pages biggest supporters up until now.

yes... actually ALL places pages seem to be deleted AND the links are changed as well.

LL support could not help yet :S

    meh.

The "Created At" date for every place has been set to today (05/10/17) so they wiped all the old content.  I'd create a Jira but keep hoping they'll just restore it on their own.

  4. Just had a really pleasant surprise.

I was replying to a topic when my browser died - don't you just hate when that happens O.o

Anyway, when I got back to the topic, thinking I would have to start all over again, I found that my reply had been saved in draft for me.  Woohoo!! Nothing was lost and away I went.

    Loving this feature  :x

  5. Whew - finally finished the first swipe at all my places.

It was an interesting exercise in organization and I really appreciated seeing all my regions & parcels in one spot.  It gave me a chance to better arrange what I had as I found parcels I had totally forgotten and realized that I could better leverage my land with some additions & deletions.  I also added a few new parcels to search and I have to say that my traffic has improved (though this could be just a coincidence).

I'm really looking forward to seeing this idea evolve!

In the meantime, I've added a discussion Show Off Your Place Pages thinking it would be a good idea to group them all together.  Right now it's pretty lonely over there so please come on down.  I'd love to see what others have done! :)

I also wonder why your new search engine shows newbies products in the top positions.   What about me?  How am I to survive?

This is probably going to sound like cold comfort but here goes.  Over the years I've seen statements like this related to search (both for the SLM & inworld) many times before. IMHO it's like howling at the wind.  Search algorithms change and merchants shouldn't overly rely on them as part of their marketing strategy.

My philosophy is to have a clear title and honest keyword list.  After that I prefer to spend my time & resources in other areas rather than search.  Saves me a lot of angst.

Part of the search changes takes into account your sales conversion compared to search.

Many thanks for the information, Dakota.

I'd love to be able to see the "sales conversion compared to search" statistics for my products :)

Well, I have heard that the merchant removes an item from the Marketplace and then add it again, and all reviews is gone. This does not take a long time. LL is not involved at all. See this forum thread, second reply and the following:

My understanding is that removing and then adding the same item back to the Marketplace is against the TOS, not that that is going to stop some people.  Besides that, the item loses its relevance ranking (you have to start at the bottom again) and all of its positive reviews (if any).  So though it might not take a long time to do this there are a number of consequences that could make a merchant think twice.

I don't understand why LL would remove positive reviews either - it's a curious situation.

I left a review on two products after opening them and loving them and then I opened the ball game. That was a not so positive review but was far from negative. It had 4 stars. How can one spam someone if you purchase the item you have the right to review it? That is not spam.

I agree that three reviews are not spam.  I was just trying to figure out why LL would remove all of the reviews you gave her.

That may be true as far as removing the option to show it but there are ways to remove the reviews which she did do. As a potential to customer to a shop I do look at reviews to see if the product is worth my money if there is no demo version available. There will always be some people who have negative things to say, I have seen some on the MP but it did not stop me from buying it as there were more positive reviews.

It's really not that easy for a merchant to remove negative reviews.  You have to flag them and then they're adjudicated by LL before any action is taken.  This process can take ages and sometimes you just never hear back from LL.  How many reviews did you actually leave?  I'm wondering if they thought that you were spamming her (just thinking out loud).

If creators do not wish to have honest reviews and only wish to have good reviews then they should not have the review section available.

I'm a bit confused about this statement because if we're talking about the Second Life Market Marketplace there is no way for merchants to remove the review section.  We're stuck with it for good or for evil :)

Their contribution to the RP community would simple be their presence in the market:

A golden rule of SL: if you're satisfied with your ROI that's all that counts.

I've been the co-owner of a Historical (RP) Estate for nine years; this activity includes being a landlord (retail & residential), running my own business, and tons of community involvement.  Having an interesting destination and no money worries makes for a great start.  The challenge (for me anyway) is time because the community is going to take all that you can give and still want more.

Being a landlord is my least favourite activity.  Not only does it consume prims (you can always use more LI) but more importantly it takes time.  Good tenants are worth their weight in gold.  Bad tenants (don't follow your covenant, always exceed their prim limits, pick fights with other tenants, etc. etc.) are to be avoided at all costs because they're time consuming. So how do you attract good tenants?

It seems to me that rewarding people in the community with free space is a good means of vetting tenants.  Advertising free space to the public at large, not so much.  You would have to be really careful with your vetting process to find "qualified content creators" and your marketing approach to avoid the perception of being desperate .  It certainly is an interesting challenge.

  13. It's an interesting concept, Farthington.  I'm looking forward to seeing what others think.

In the meantime here are some thoughts off the top of my head.

IMHO running a successful RP area is all about nuturing the community.  That will ultimately drive the right traffic to your area & benefit both your RP & retail endeavours.  I tend to agree with Chase01 that satelite stores (especially free ones) are not what you're looking for UNLESS those owners are also contributing to your RP community in other ways.  Have you thought of making the retail spaces a part of the RP itself?  Perhaps merchants get the spot for free but are there to RP at certain times.  Interaction with players/customers both through regular & special events is a good way to increase traffic & keep community interest high.

As far as donations go, it's been my experience that you will receive a bit from visitors (not much to write home about) but it's the community that will be the backbone of your support.

    Good luck with your venture!

I'm pretty sure I know the thread you 'liked' in, Tatiana - one I started?

I haven't come across the message you got though, so I can't suggest a reason why you might have got it. Maybe too many Likes in quick succession? - similar to trying to post again, or even save an edit, within 30 seconds of the posting.

Hi Phil, yes that's the one!

It was my very first Like of the day so the limit wasn't on my side.  Perhaps she was getting a lot of Likes at that same time just by coincidence?

I wish I would have done a screen cap to show the exact wording but the pop-up triggered my "kill it fast before it breeds" reflex and I'd already dismissed it before thinking about it.

I wonder it limits how often you can like a specific user.  Maybe it limits to a percentage of your total likes.

    *shrugs*

As far as I can figure out, this is the first time I've Liked a post from this user. I Liked another post in the same discussion (first time as well for that user as well) and it went through without a pop-up.  I was wondering if the user themself could set something but didn't see anything in user settings.  Go figure.

  16. Further on Reputation - I justed Liked a post and got a pop-up message something along the lines of "You are not allowed to give Reputation to this user" though it allowed the Like to remain.  What's up with that?

  17. I much prefer the "Like this" feature as opposed to the old "Kudo" system.  I think it's a great way to spread some joy around and I'm so glad that a "Dislike" wasn't included.  It's also cool that Likes show up on Profile Activity as well as Reputation Activity.  For all those lurkers (myself included) that enjoy reading but don't tend to say much hitting Like is a great way to be involved in the community by showing appreciation & activity while still remaining in your comfort zone.

On a broader scope, I really like that LL actually made the effort to move to a new Community Forum (as well as the new Places).  The effort alone makes me more optimistic about SL's futute :)

hehe, I think you mean unliked rather than unlikeable. I have no doubt that you are a very likeable pesron :)

Awwww, thanks Phil that's kind of you.  I should know better than to post anything before I've had my morning coffee though in that state I'm probably pretty unlikeable as well :)

On a related note, all this talk about "liking" made me think bact to Sally Fields' Oscar classic acceptance speech.  I was going to post a "You really like me" meme but then stumbled on this instead The Science of ‘You Like Me! You Really Like Me!’.  Interesting stuff.  My guess is that a "dislike" has the opposite effect (though proportionally bigger) so I'm really glad it wasn't included in this new community forum.
