  1. First, please rest assured that we're closely following the feedback in this forum.  You're not spilling ink in vain.  We haven't asked you to test specific things precisely because we need generalized feedback on various aspects of your experience with search both as merchants and as shoppers.

Based on the feedback you have given, we're working on making incremental changes.  We'll promptly notify you of each new deploy (and yes, we'll list the changes made) and ask for additional responses.  While it's clear even from discussions in just this thread that it's impossible to satisfy everyone all the time, we do this beta process and ask for your time and feedback precisely because we want to avoid the doomsday scenarios colorfully presented here.

  2. Thank you all for the feedback. We have added an additional question to the FAQ regarding the migration process.

What will my migrated items look like in my inventory?
If you choose to have your listings automatically migrated, listing and version folders will automatically be created for you. Both of these folders will be named after the "SL Object Name" you can see on your listing.

  3. Would you like 3 free months of Premium Membership on one of your accounts? Are you a Merchant with at least 50 listings (active and inactive) in your store? If so, we’d like you to volunteer your store to be one of the first stores migrated to Viewer-Managed Marketplace.

We have been testing the migration process using test accounts, and, as thorough as these tests may be, they cannot anticipate some of the unusual cases that sometimes arise. Because of this we would like to migrate around 20 stores of 50 or more Direct Delivery listings before we begin general migrations.

If you are interested in participating, please answer the questions on this form. We will ultimately select 20 stores from those submitted, choosing a wide variety of stores and types of items for sale. If we have selected your store, we will follow up with you to schedule a time for the migration of your store and, once the store is migrated, we will add 3 months of free Premium Membership to the account you designated. If your store is not selected, we will let you know that we’ll be migrating you during the main migration period.

We will be reaching out to Merchants with large stores (several thousand or more listings) and Premium Memberships to schedule a time for the migration of their stores closer to the main migration period. All migrations will occur during the low traffic times on the Marketplace, as this is possible.

[UPDATE] The survey has been closed. We will follow up shortly with volunteers who have not yet been contacted. Thanks to all who applied.

  4. We have updated the FAQ with a couple of the questions we've seen come up. Let us know if there are additional questions we've missed that need to be added. Here are the new questions we've added:

I use a Third Party Viewer. Will I need to move to VMM?
Yes, you will. The TPV development community has been updated regularly on the timeline for VMM, and some of them are planning to include these updates. Please check with your TPV for more information.

What happens when I run out of no-copy stock items?
The Marketplace will send you an email to alert you and unlist your listing until you have a chance to add more units.

  5. An updated Viewer-Managed Marketplace (VMM) project viewer* is now available. See the Release notes for full details. Here is a summary of what has changed:

    • When moving a folder or item to the Marketplace Listings folder, the user is warned that this is a move, not a copy. In order to support copy, “Copy to Marketplace Listings” has been added to the inventory context menu.
    • Added a drop zone to the bottom of the Marketplace Listings folder.
    • Added support for filtering by Listing folder to make it easier to search large number of listings.
    • When creating a listing, if there is only one version folder, that version folder is automatically activated. If there is more than one version folder the user is alerted to activate one.
    • Improved “Check for errors” functionality to only show errors as well as supporting “Check for errors” on a single listing.
    • Error message improvements overall.
    • Removed the ability to “Unassociate Listing” which puts the listing in an unrecoverable state on the Marketplace.
    • Performance improvements to prevent viewer freeze when the Marketplace Listings floater is first opened.

We have not addressed all items. Here is a list of JIRAs which are still open:

    • VMM-20 Include product listing ID in audit listings window results
    • VMM-18 Add "sort by age of listing creation"
    • VMM-17 Support listing folders at any level of Marketplace Listings folder

Please let us know of new suggestions or issues by filing a VMM JIRA.

    * To learn more about Viewer-Managed Marketplace, please see the VMM FAQ.

  6. Thanks to those who have shared information and feedback on the Viewer-Managed Marketplace. We have received some great suggestions. These issues (and some bugs) have been imported into JIRA:

    • VMM-23 Better error message when attempting to associate with a listing ID that is not available
    • VMM-22 Drop zone for Marketplace Listing floater (similar to Merchant Outbox)
    • VMM-21 Error message when dragging item onto ground from Marketplace Listings floater
    • VMM-20 Include product listing ID in audit listings window results
    • VMM-19 Edit listing behavior when listing is incomplete
    • VMM-18 Add "sort by age of listing creation"
    • VMM-17 Support listing folders at any level of Marketplace Listings folder
    • VMM-16 Provide "Copy to Marketplace Listings" option

If we have missed some feedback or you have new feedback, please feel free to create a new JIRA in the VMM project. If you would like to review VMM JIRAs that have already been filed and provide feedback, you can view the issues here.

Thank you for your feedback. We will update you in the new year with details on the next meeting.

  7. Thank you for the feedback so far. The original announcement of VMM is here, for those who missed it. The question of agenda came up. Here it is:

    • Overview of VMM
    • Review questions/concerns from this thread--so please post them here
    • Give Merchants in attendance the opportunity to bring up additional concerns and let us know what you like

This meeting will be in voice. We will record it for those not in attendance to listen at a later time.

  8. Friday, December 12, 2014, at 11am Pacific time, several Lindens will be inworld to get your feedback on the Viewer-Managed Marketplace (VMM). We’ll be meeting on Aditi in the “ACME F” region (secondlife://Aditi/secondlife/ACME%20F/128/128/24).

For those of you not yet familiar with VMM, it allows you to easily manage your inventory on the Second Life Marketplace using the Second Life Viewer. Items no longer need to be loaded into the Merchant Outbox or a Magic Box, and are instead sold directly from your inventory.

If you are interested in attending the session, please try out VMM* and bring your feedback to the meeting. If you are unable to attend, you can submit feedback through JIRA or by commenting on this post.

    * If you are prompted in the viewer to sign up for Beta access, you must first log into Marketplace on Aditi and Create a Store before signing up.
