  1. Thanks Obvious, good advice.

I downloaded Zwagoth's AnimMaker and it looks ideal for the simple animations that I need. Do you happen to know of any documentation or tutorials, my googles so far have not turned up anything.

  2. One of the answers may have to do with this:

And the other thing we’re going to be fixing is, many of you will have noticed that we don’t use all of the video memory on your video cards.

It turns out that’s because of a very old bug that plagued us a long time ago and we sort-of arbitrarily, in order to avoid tickling the bug, we capped how much memory we would ever use.

We are now in the process of fixing that so it now measures how much memory is there, and we use what we think is a reasonable share of that memory.

It turns out it’s not a good idea for Second Life or any application to try to use all the video memory on the card, because that in fact will cause the rest of the system to get screwed-up.

One other thing is that the Linden viewer has a bunch of upgrades for textures that have not arrived in Firestorm yet so it may be worth gritting your teeth and using the Linden viewer for a while to see if that is any better. The next Firestorm release should have those upgrades.
  3. Firstly, you can zoom the mini map in and out so it can seem that people are close together.

Second, When you right click on the dot that represents more than one person you get a menu listing all the people that it represents so that you can select the profile that you want to open.

  4. I use both, but mostly Paint.net. it is far simpler to use because it has a standard windows UI.

It can do just about everything that Gimp can do (with plugins) and if you are new to this kind of graphics program you will find it much easier to get started.

The main problem I find with Gimp, and this is my opinion and I know a lot of people love Gimp, but it has a 'made for linux' type interface which drives me crazy.

Get the 4.0 beta version of Paint.net, it has a lot of improvements over the 3.5 version (requires Windows 7 or above.)
