But if she asks to marry me, the request will show up in my e-mail inbox, and I cannot reach it since I've not used that e-mail for years (don't even know what it is for an e-mail).

Not according on what it says written on secondlife.com. But the instructions are confusing. They say e-mail verifications are needed on both ends.
