  1. Thanks Lauflair. I guess I was hoping there might be bookstores in SL that are like the RL equivalents. It's strange because there are a lot off affiliate systems in SL, so seems like a bookstore or magazine stand should work. OTOH, looking through the SL Marketplace, I see many magazines that haven't put out new issues in years. It might be a chicken vs. egg problem. Magazine creators get disillusioned and give up because of low sales, but customers don't buy books or magazines because they're too hard to find. The Marketplace has a lot of books, comics, and magazines under Art > Literature and Periodicals, but a lot of those are decorative items that are miscategorized, so the customer needs to do a lot of browsing to find worthwhile content.
  2. While I can easily find magazines and other publishers in SL, I haven't been able to find any bookstores or newsstands. From conversations in other forums, it sounds like some have existed in the past, but I can't seem to find any at the moment. Do they exist? Anyone know of any?
  3. I'm guessing Black Friday or thereabouts. Intoxicated with egg nog and pumpkin spice everything, people are primed to spend money before the winter holidays.
  4. The concept sort of reminds me of the Rat Things in the book Snow Crash.
  5. The name means "X in Indiana", since that's where I am in RL. When people started referring to me as Xin, I kinda liked it 😈 I imagine it's pronounced as Sin, or something close to it.
  6. Still working on my photography and lighting skills, but I like this image.
  7. That's a gorgeous photo @Seicher Rae I connect to SL on a PC running Linux Mint and the Firestorm viewer. The PC has a Ryzen 5 CPU, 32 GB of RAM, and a fairly cheap video card, though I forget the exact model. I'll have to practice my SL photography skills.
  8. Maybe showing my age, but this reminds me of the time when Apple began upgrading from OS 9 to OS X. There were a few years where there were "Universal" apps that worked on both types of systems, but eventually people stopped developing for OS 9 because it was clear OS X was the future. I recently rejoined SL after being away for years and I'm sort of struck that the graphics are still more or less the same as they were back then. As someone else pointed out, we mostly come here for features other than graphics, but I think if SL wants to grow, or keep up, it will need to improve the graphics performance... or maybe I need a better graphics card in my PC ;-) Still, I looked at the Creation Portal on the Second Life Wiki and noticed the last time someone edited it was in 2012. Are all of the links that old? Are there any newer articles that could be added, or could older ones be updated? The wiki's theme isn't even responsive or mobile friendly. I hope the powers-that-be will take a look at the ecosystem surrounding SL and realize it's no longer the new bright and shiny viral sensation it was 10 - 15 years ago. If I were a doctor and Second Life was my patient, I would tell it to get a little more exercise and watch its cholesterol. FWIW I noticed the latest edition of "Second Life: The Official Guide" is copyright 2008. I haven't gone through it, but I wonder how much of its information still holds up.
