Before the borking ...

lemme me see if I can explain what I did here ...... in an attempt to figure out what is going on with the neck line I went into the Legacy EDIT (1.1)(Upscaled) HUD & first I hit bump to see what that would do (unrelated to the neck line, I was just curious), well it changed the skin & produced an even greater difference between head & body. Then I went to the Style tab in an attempt to get the skin colour back (not the right move I guess) & chose a colour there (I then had to get the body hair back on through the HUD which came with the skin). So now this alpha thingie doesn't work, as shown, the neck line is even worse (I tried to blend that using the Legacy HUD to no avail. I may have borked the HUD by using "right-cick edit" to move it on the screen (those HUDs don't place very well) & it didn't seem to like that & I ended up by seeing tiny versions of all the menus in a radius, so I deleted that HUD & unpacked another one from the original object. The style options will still work on the HUD now, so I'm assuming the entire thing is working, but as I said, not the alpha layer thingie. I was very tempted to press the RESET option at the bottom of the first screen but restrained myself - not sure what that is gonna do & how far it will set things back. So atm I have a legacy/lelutka that is borked & can't get the signature/lelutak combo to work properly either ! Would love to get the first one back to working order. There must be something somewhere that needs resetting to get the skin back to where it was & the alpha thing (what is that called ??) working so that I can go back to hiding all that skin. And then I can try to hide the neck line. yikes ... um yeah ... so HELP. Any ideas ?

Well if I could have my current head no a Signature Gianni body that would be superb. I am quite happy with the Legacy body but already I can see that it's "shopping" range is limited. lol - indeed. I am only a few days into this so am really struggling to understand it all. That was in response to Alwin's post about how the links work - if I am using the same item across different avis & saving outfits there is only 1 item & the different outfits simply point to that 1 item, so if I change that item in one avi the other avis with reflect that change as well. I may try copying items for each outfit & saving that way but I suspect I will run into issues to do with permissions. @LillithHapmouche - Wait a sec... you already own a LeLutka head and a Legacy body, but you already wanted to switch to Catwa and Signature? How about slowing down a bit and learning to work with what you got instead of shilling out L$ left and right? I'm quite happy with what I have done with the Lelutka head & Legacy body, just feels limited. I have configured the shape to the way I like it & have figured out the HUDs & attachments, etc. Just that it feels limited. Also I wanted to see how to work with all the different body & head types to try & get a grasp on it, but I may just end up sticking with the one I've got. As for the L$ - I had a hefty balance from my days as a gaming host 10 years ago, so no worries there... yet ! Thank you !

wait ... I can use a lelutka head on a Gianni body ? I thought you had to use heads designed specifically for the body. Pretty sure I am not grasping the layers & appliers thingie as yet & I haven't figured out the save slots on the HUDs, that would probably help out a lot !! ... forgive me, I'm only days into this madness !! ok, that kinda makes sense, so there should be the same "link" in both avis to explain what happened if I am understand this correctly.

Yesterday I tried a Signature Gianni with a Catwa head Dude - I got the body right (maybe even better than the Legacy), the head is a problem, not sure I like it so am gonna try changing that up & will probably be back here looking for more help. But for now I noticed this: Horus was bald but now he has this "fuzz" on his head which is exactly the fuzz that is on the Catwa head & his eye colour has changed (though I like this one better I 'reckon). I, naively perhaps, thought the the outfits would remain fixed but this appears not to be the case. Anyway .. what happened here ? I don't mind the fuzz but I would like to know how to avoid having attributes cut across all outfits - if you know what I mean. as aside - any recommendation on heads for Gianni ? I do not like the Dude head, if it could look pretty much like this one I'd be happy - and yes demo, demo, demo. Still floundering around using a lot of guess work & trial & error & getting lost & this has thrown me ... 🤪

Well that is just too easy. This is what I have managed so far with the clothes supplied with the avi & some old bits from my inventory which obvs still work. I've come across sweaters not working with jeans so dressing these guys is gonna be trickier. slowly ... slowly .... @RowanMinxomg - lol - and now here's another thing ... animations make bits of your skin show through the clothes (at least the ones I am currently wearing). Is there a work around for that or is it just a matter of fining some looser fitting trousers ? I suppose a dark legging underneath would do the trick ... the surprises are coming thick & fast !!

phew - so it is a thing & not some fundamental screw up on my part. Why wasn't I warned ?!? 🤪😄 Can't wait for the next fun surprise. I think I get what you're saying re: the alpha & export, I wondered what that export was for, so I will give that a go. I have prolly reached my post limit for the day so I won't be able to respond further - but cheers ! @Skell Dagger hmm.. so it says no hidden object to export so I'm thinking - an outfit will always hide the same parts so I was thinking - take the outfit off, then export the alpha but I can't seem to get beyond the dialogue box which asks me to name it, I do so & submit & then it doesn't do anything else & the box is still sitting there asking me to name it. yikes ... lol maybe it's a Legacy thing ?

So this was unexpected ... took off the clothes the legacy body & there are "blank" bits all over the body, on the chest like a vest & the calves are gone - so back into the HUD to fill those in ... is this a thing ? I wish I could put a photo in here, but it will not let me (I use lightshot, which works inworld) - maybe that is another newbie restriction ? Anyway ... is this something that happens with putting clothes on & off ? It has completely freaked me out !! So I have it back, but I had to click it twice - grey it out & then fill it in again - jeez I wish I could put pics up .... imma try that ga.whatever.you.folks.use next. & that worked with the gyazo

With the generous inworld help of a few of you - you know who you are 💗 & 🕊️ - I have manged to get a head & body together that looks respectable & played around with the sliders to get a shape I like. I went with the Legacy & a Lelutka head, but am now going to get a Gianni & Catwa & try it all over again to get familiar with how they all work. Hopefully the more I use it the more I can understand it !! The save outfit thingie is a god-send, I don't remember that being an option before - so easy to switch back & forth, used to take forever to change clothes & attachments. Now for hair & clothes .....

It's a very low limit & doesn't give you much scope for a discussion - rather annoying to get locked out of your own question thread. And now I have just used up 1 for today ...... 😜

@Skell Dagger It's the SL viewer & I installed a few days ago so I assume it's the most up to date.

The complexities present a very steep learning curve so I shall cool my jets & try to patiently work my way through. Thank you all for your contributions, very much appreciated, lots to work with & follow up on.

Yes, I didn't think I was posting that much given the complexity of the topic at hand. I sort of get the newbie angle but it also doesn't make much sense if you don't know when you've passed the rubicon & will then get locked out. I may have just used up 2 of my allowed daily contributions & haven't got back to the thread in question to respond ! 😮 😉

The other day I posted in Avatar asking for some help, which people generously responded to & a discussion formed. Then suddenly I could no longer post & reply because I had "reached my maximum daily limit". I am rather reluctant to post now if a discussion is cut off like that, even if it is for 24 hours that can stop the flow when you're in the middle of reading & responding. So a question: What is that daily limit ?

hmm..... bottom of my reply box says 'insert image from url' - I couldn't paste an image file, but I'll try dragging one ...and that'll be a no I'm coming back to y'all, what I am doing atm is running around gathering up all the demos rather than getting one, trying that, getting another, etc. I just got griefed at Niramyth (ah, the good ole days). I'm sure I have something in my inventory that deals with griefers but I will play nicely nicely. And now I have reached the maximum number of posts per day for this forum (really ? what's up with that ?)

lol - you're not gonna want to hug this monstrosity. I am just running around in circles here repeatedly adding & wearing, getting nowhere & getting frustrated. I have managed to keep my old head with a new body (couldn't do that with the Legacy demo) but now I have no eyes, the LeLutka eye are there but rolled in the back of my head somewhere, & of course the skin tones are way off. And I don't really like this body. Suppose I'll have to set up a Flickr to get some pics up here.

So I thought I would do this & keep my head & hair, etc. but I can't seem to get that to work either, ie. have a new body but still have the skin with the "old" face/head - does that even work ? lol - and now I have somehow managed to change my shape so that my original skin doesn't "fit". A mess indeed !

I have been demo'ing some bodies & this morning managed to get some heads on, but they are bright red. Is that a demo thing & if so how can you get any idea what it's gonna look like, & if not where am I going wrong ? And the HUD .. appliers, etc ... yikes !! I am def gonna IM some folks now. 😡😮😕

So I have just hit a wall this evening - went out & about, grabbed a bunch of demos & heads, etc. & have ended up in a mess. Lord knows what it is gonna look like when I log in tomorrow. I have rented myself a wee place so I don't rezz somewhere public, like waking up drunk on a park bench with my ken doll (non) bits out .....

Thank you all muchly - this has been very helpful. I have read Skell's blog this afternoon & have gotten a little further along, so feeling somewhat less daunted & less terrified of turning into a headless demo with no way back. I still may take some of you up on your kind offers of assistance - so far all I've managed is trying on some body demos. Stellar advice. I have to rein myself in from feeling like it all has to be done at once. Luckily I have a hefty L$ balance still on my account from my old life as a gaming host.

You have probably been going over & over this already, indeed I have read a few threads. I tried today with some demos & it seems I have no idea how this stuff works now compared to a decade ago (not surprising I suppose). I couldn't get anything to work properly & spent an age trying to get back to my original avatar (I still haven't managed that, but what I have will do for now). I would really like to take advantage of the new avatars & stop looking like a pixel with paddle feet but I have no idea how and/or where to begin. The learning curve is doing my head in tbh ! Are there folks out there that will help a guy out for a fee ? Is there a more appropriate place to look for such a service ? ..... and don't get me started on the 8.627 items in 650 folders in my inventory - I 'reckon I should burn the lot & start over !!
