I would love to hear more experiences. I attended my first Hivid experience, and of course there were subtle differences in timing among users. But there were two major things that came up. 1) The host stopped the video and restarted it. However for one user it played continuously through two restarts. For that user, she was ten minutes ahead in the film and there seemed to be no way to "bring her back" to where everyone was 2) I was having weird noises and wondered if they were on the Media stream, so I stopped Media and restarted it. Big mistake. Suddenly I was back at the start of the film. Wondering if there is a "resync" option, where the host can toggle everyone back to the same point in the movie? Obviously stream rates, etc, being what they are, there will be up to 60 seconds difference in delivery. But is there a way to bring everyone to approximately the same point?

I was very disappointed to see the streams had disappeared, but understand the business reasons. Asking Lindens to pay royalties, when Lindens have little control over how their users are working the streams, is not a real solution. Soma is a tightly wound model -- personal relationship with the listener, you pull up the site, put the URL in your browser, and listen (and hopefully donate). A passive stream, co-opted and broadcast in SL, is more diffuse, and the SL user treats it more as an SL tool, not (necessarily) as a cool site you like to visit. Soma thinks the ability to take their stream and use it in the SL space is worth someone paying for (or just generating so much royalty liability that they can't really support it). It is a business problem. Rather than go to war with the Lindens, Soma and LL should develop a proprietary widget to recognize the streams, and Soma should require login information to stream from your browser (for free). Soma should: 1) Require users to log in, for free, to listen to their site 2) Require a modest subscription fee to stream into SL (couple of bucks a month, maybe) 3) Users who sign up for this would get a proprietary widget in SL, developed by LL 4) Widget would recognize, be configured with, user information, recognize that they have a legitimate Soma subscription, and stream from the parcel 5) Soma shares the subscription revenue (70/30?) with LL 6) Win/win for LL and Soma, lots of users and a new revenue stream Not ideal for the users, who always want everything free. But I think Soma is an excellent resource, I find their curated lists of music compelling and unusual. I'd pay a couple of bucks a month (but not, say over $5, and even that is pricey) to use it in SL. Several technical problems -- how many streams can you have going at once; can you have more than one parcel with a widget, does that cost extra; how to discourage people sharing login information, etc. But those are solvable.

I use Firestorm. Is there a way to see recently past events? Let's say it's 4:15 SLT and you want to see what is going on right now. The Event page only shows you events from 4:30 on, and you can't see what started at 4:00. Is there a way to look at already-started events? Along the same lines, is there a way to export or download the list of events. If I, say, want to download all the Live DJ events coming up today, can I?

And the answer is, that when I went into the HUD it was clear that some body sections had been hidden, and I could easily unhide them. I saved the full alpha in slot 1, and the immediate problem is resolved. But the additional documentation and information will come in handy! Thank you to all

Noted, with appreciation. (And I edited my comment above --- the tux was the first piece I bought that was *NOT* calibrated for Geralt)

I am reading Skel's response carefully and I am going to spend some time with the Signature manual. I've already re-unpacked the box and will need to start from scratch. The concept of saving alphas is interesting, and new to me (I may be learning quickly as a newbie but there is a LOT of information). At the moment, the one alpha look will do me, but I will be careful to save that one in a slot so I can retrieve it in case of trouble. I am slowly getting my head around working with copies of things -- what to make a copy of, when to make a copy and how to keep track of copies. I would think first about copying the alpha before building on it -- but I'm reading above that the alpha will persist across outfits anyway. As for what happened, it is probably connected to my efforts to take the tux on and off. It is the first clothing I've bought that was *NOT* specifically calibrated for Geralt and it took a lot of trial and error, playing with the different outfits (and learning that you can Wear one alpha and Add another) to get it right. But somewhere in all that shifting around, and taking the tux on and off, I must have made my mistake. I was getting used to switching outfits quickly and easily but all my other outfits were based on the same alpha base, the tux outfit was configured differently.

All my outfits are saved so I can just "wear" a previously saved outfit. But any saved outfit that includes my Geralt body has this error. I will try to reopen my Geralt body and alpha and reapply them. I'm a little concerned I may have "killed the scripts" in the body -- I would like to be able to avoid doing that again. But either the hot tub experience or the tuxedo-wearing would have done it.

My legs are gone from the thighs down, and I'm missing my belt area. Earlier today I put on a tux which was not specifically designed for my Geralt body, but I managed to figure out how to work the alphas and layers. Also I was in a friend's hot tub, and started to see that my bottom half was gone. What is worrisome is that my legs are missing across my outfits. Any outfit I have saved that isn't covered up by pants (naked, swimsuit, gym shorts) has the missing legs. I have tried logging off and logging back on several times, teleporting, switching from Firestorm to 2nd life viewer and back again, hitting the ctl-alt-R.....nothing works. All the outfits I have saved use the same Geralt alpha and body -- no copies -- so has something corrupted the underlying body, shape or alpha?

OK, I made serious progress. I just threw out the head and re-opened the original box, and got a clean version. I built up carefully, watching what the Alphas did (and which ones cancelled which one out) until I got a stripped down version of Geralt. I was able to dress him and put on the new hair. Finally, I learned the diff between Wear and Add -- when I tried to wear the blazer and then wear the slacks they cancelled each other out, but if I Added both of them I was able to complete the ensemble. Thank you!

Ooh, I think you said something I totally didn't know. So when you build a new outfit you COPY an element to use in another way (like to make two different adjustments to your head?) I see how I Copy using right-click, where do I past the new copy (or do I just copy it in place)? I have stripped down to "New Shape," "New Skin," "New Hair" and the original avatar "Greg" Eyes. So now I can start trying to build from that saved "start" position? Is there a conflict in the Alphas in Signature Geralt between body and head?
-
OK, but the hair base "Blake" was a new thing I bought yesterday. How is this part of my base avatar? Or do I have to establish some sort of hair or head base in any iteration of my avatar? So I can't take off the Geralt shape or skin -- unless I go back to inventory and find my absoulte basic first shape and skin and subsitute? Do I understand that the absolute baseline is shape, head/hair, skin, eyes ??

Hello again. Newbie, first month still. I will have other questions once I straighten my current situation out -- I was having problems putting pants and a blazer on at the same time, and wound up turning on BOM and have a red head now. But before I solve that I want to strip everything down to "zero" so I can reapply things from scratch. (I have been trying all sorts of Alpha on, Alpha off, etc, and can't get my head back to where it was -- it has affected all my saved outfits). I have four items that I cannot remove, no matter what I do. I want to get them off to be sure I am applying layers in order, after doing more reading. [Signature] Geralt Body-Shape [Signature] Geralt Default Skin TONE eDeLsToRe hair base "Blake" Greg-Eyes Obviously I bought Geralt, and I also bought Geralt Head. The hair I bought last night and I had some success getting it to work with some outfits I had. I can choose a different Skin TONE but cannot remove it. And the Greg-Eyes were from my starter avatar. Why can't I take these off?

Thanks again to all. I have gotten good success editing and organizing my inventory. For now, I'm filing the boxes in a storage folder. Appreciate all the detailed responses.

Thank you! That is extremely helpful. I see my order history in marketplace, and each item has a "redeliver" item. So if I understand you, I *could* delete the original box, and if I ever needed to unpack it again to get a different version of the jacket for a different body (for instance), I could get it redelivered, unpack and retrieve the next item. But you personally keep the boxes in your inventory somewhere "just in case" the creator goes out of business. Sounds like it is my option whether to delete the packaging box or not, as in most cases I can probably just get it again. I understand the shirt poking thorough the jacket -- and the jacket did come with a shirt (in different colors). I see it is not designed for my other t-shirt to work *with* the jacket, it is one or the other.

I am getting the hang of buying an object, unpacking it, and getting the clothing out and wearing it. I'm trying to learn how to best manage the inventory once that is all done. I am working with the Signature Geralt body, as it looked that there would be a lot lot clothing available for it that would fit without adjustments. I bought a jacket that would work for Geralt and went to a sandbox to unpack and put it on. 1) Do you keep the original box once it is unpacked? Or not, I have set up an "Unpacked objects" folder in my Objects, but should I just delete the original packaging? 2) The unpacked item contains jackets for 7 different bodies, including Geralt. Is it OK to just delete the other six jackets that are only for other specific body designs? 3) I keep the HUD of course, to adjust the shirt. But the other item in the folder appears to just be an advertisement/logo for the jacket and creator? This can be safely deleted? I also have a t-shirt that continually nags me with a message saying "Unfortunately, there is no auto hide registered for this item" I noticed when I put the jacket on over the shirt, the shirt poked through in places, and I assume that is what auto-hide means. Is the shirt telling me there is no way to hide it, so I will have to take it off if I want to put something else over it? Is there a way to get an auto-hide "registered" for it? If not, is there a way to turn off the nag message? Thanks to all. Only been in world for about a week, with a friend coaching me. This is my first post.
