I don't know what's stopping the creators from setting the timers to longer periods like 20-30 minutes. It's not like you can get much for-free actual use in that time - if you're dumb, you'll go to a party thinking you're so clever at beating the system and poof! Sudden naked in front of everyone lol.

When Someone Dies in RL
Leonardis Ducatillon replied to Julie Stormcrow's topic in General Discussion Forum
Dear Julie, I too am sorry for your loss. I don't have much to add to InnerCity Elf's comprehensive response, other than to say I have tried what I could to help - unfortunately without knowing your sister's username or Rick's name it's going to be difficult. There aren't any Walking Dead RPs currently active (and many RPs don't survive 4-5 years, which is the timescale we're talking about), so I went instead to look at groups, as these are often "permanent" and far outlive their sims - unless deliberately disbanded by the group owners. I couldn't find one Founded by a "Rick"; but that could mean that he wasn't the Founder of the group (even if he did found the RP), or it could be that he's disbanded the group, or perhaps he's changed his name. Sadly, we don't even know for sure if Rick is still in SL himself. As you say you haven't been in SL long and she sadly passed away in 2020, it implies that your avatar and hers never met in SL, so even looking at old chatlogs or objects/photos she might have given you won't help. The only possible option is the ""Missed Avatar Connections" forum that InnerCity Elf suggested. You may have to accept that this connection may never be made, I'm afraid, especially as not all SL users frequent these forums. Peace and love. Edit: It's a long shot, but I may have found something, although it may or may not be the same. I changed my search terminology in the groups from "Walking Dead" to "Zombie RP", and found a small group called "Lz. Private Contractors." (a paramilitary force to protect against zombies, created at least as far back as 2012, given the age of their logo file) founded by a "Ricky" which is his display name, but his SL name is Macbeth Faith. He's a 15 year+ old SL avatar, so he would have been around when your sister was alive. If it is him, however, he hasn't logged into SL since 16th February 2021. One of that group's co-leaders (GiovanniStark Katana) however was active as of 18th February 2024, so while that is a little while back it shows he's active in SL in recent past - perhaps drop them both a notecard? -

Preventing TP to G-rated regions
Leonardis Ducatillon replied to Cinnamon Mistwood's topic in General Discussion Forum
It's a good suggestion. There are some people who use very Adult-rated avatars who essentially "live" in that avatar and therefore could accidentally breach the ToS if they are not mindful when TP'ing to a location that turns out to be General Rated. They might prefer just to not be able to do that via a setting. It strikes me as a relatively simple coding solution too at LL's end. -

I think you were both right in a way. No, they weren't previously requiring anyone to switch bodies, but if you used a downsized adult mesh to portray a teen character, the chances of there being a skin avaialble that has the baked-in modesty layer that would have made it compliant would be very low, and I'm not sure but there may be "geometry" issues regarding female anatomy for meshes like Maitreya. Therefore, previously a teen avatar in a down-sized adult mesh body in effect would either have had to age up or age down (with a kid/tween mesh) to be compliant, since there would be baked-in modesty layers to their skins, unless the unlikely scenario occurred of the major skin makers making specific teen skins for the adult mesh bodies with modesty layers built in. However! The updated rules however allow BOM underwear, which makes things a whole lot more possible. Now, people in theory should not have to switch bodies. -

Well, a lot of the time, Linden Lab gets a bad rep (unfairly or otherwise) for allegedly not listening to the Community, so it's only right and proper that I and I hope others here can commend Tommy, Keira and the others for truly listening to the valid concerns expressed with the original proposals, taking those concerns away to be discussed and returning with significant improvements. The nature of SL and the wider internet (and life in general) being what they are, of course not everyone will be satisfied no matter what is done, but these amendments are a whole lot better than the first set of rule updates. And of course, even the first set of rule updates had overall the right intention, even though the implementation and logistics hadn't been perfected yet. I hope we can all agree that sexualisation of under 18 year old presenting avatars is not welcome in SL and that intelligent regulation is actually to the benefit of minor avatars too, as well as sim owners. My close relative whom I referenced before, who plays the teen avatar, had no intention whatsoever of sexualised activity, but was so genuinely scared of being accidentally sanctioned due to not being able to fully implement the (previous) rules that he was considering ageing up, just to make the problem go away. He would like to thank you for letting him continue with his choice of SL without that anxiety. He's going to make an adult version of his avatar anyway, just to be able to access any Regions that would be off-limits for his "main avatar", but at least that is a choice rather than an imposition. -

Thanks to those replying above. @Ingrid Ingersoll: I very much hope you're right. But the number of SL residents aiming to play this particular age group is miniscule compared to the number of those who want adult avatars. I'm just concerned the major skin makers, and potentially even the medium-sized ones will not care enough to put some modesty undies on theirs, since it will in the end not make much of a difference to sales. You might get the odd niche skin maker who might do that for a teenaged avatar, but I'm not holding my breath... @Persephone Emerald: I'm not sure that one can even in good intention bypass the new ToS with an adult mesh. I believe it is whether the avatar is "presenting as a minor" (which they define as below 18 years of age) that automatically means an avatar will fall under those rules - whether they are using an actual child/tween mesh or whether they are using a version of an adult mesh. As Sadvhi said, it is this age group of "nearly-adults" which is perhaps most at risk of being caught up in inappropiate sexual activity (in the "naughty schoolgirl/schoolboy" kind of way) and therefore elleevelyn is right, Linden Lab are defining minors in a blanket fashion as someone presenting as under 18 years. In theory, that would be if someone presented as 17 years of age with a fully adult-sized and adult-featured mesh body. That avatar would need to wear a modesty-layered skin under the new rules. I'm going by this response in the FAQ: - Q: I already have a child avatar that does not have a built in modesty layer. Can I still use that since I purchased it already? A: No. Going forward, child avatars will be prohibited from being fully nude. Although the answer above is mostly to a very different question (which is "can the child avatar be fully nude?"), it still says "No." to whether someone can use a child avatar without a built in modesty layer. From what the Lindens said, wearing something that could be removed (like BOM underwear, alpha layering etc) is only a temporary solution to get into the spirit of the rules potentially for the next phase of enforcement (from 30th June - see https://lindenlab.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/31000173097-child-avatar-faq/#Q%3A-How-do-you-define-a-child-avatar?), which is that anyone presenting as a minor must have a skin with a non-removable modesty panel. -

A close family member of mine plays a teen boy character in the 15-16 year old category, using Belleza Jake with a bit but noticeably smaller shape than is typical in SL for an adult male, a Lelutka mesh head that looks like it could be a younger male (i.e. narrower jaw, slightly snub nose) and some slimming deformers. That's just to set the scene for you. He's going to be in some difficulty come the end of June when this is enforced. He has no issue with the no-nudity thing and not attaching genitalia, etc, but he currently uses an adult skin because 16 year olds are closer to adult-looking than to little kids. He has no issue with wearing the modesty layer (in the "speedo area"), but he's worried that skin creators won't bother to cater for his chosen age group. The adult skin makers will probably continue to do as they are doing as it doesn't affect them too much financially, and the kiddie skin creators will make modesty-layer skins but they probably will only be suitable for the clearly child/tween mesh bodies, not for an adult body like Belleza Jake. At present, he's going to be forced to clearly "age up" to 18 through lack of alternatives. Unfortunately, our interpretation of the rules is that it doesn't matter if the under 18 avatar never goes naked; if they are wearing a non-compliant skin, even covered by mesh or BOM clothing or even "alpha layer underwear", they will be breaching the new TOS. Linden Lab clearly don't want the potential for an avatar to remove said clothing/alpha transparency, even if they never do it. Therefore, he's going to have to age up to adult, unless some skin creators make modesty-layer adult skins for adult meshes that teen avatars like to use, e.g. Jake, CZ, Legacy, SLink (latter less so these days), etc. It's not the end of the world, but it does restrict him from how he wants to (innocently) play his SL. I have also played characters that age in the past, but the difference is it doesn't matter to me whether I never play one again and just be an adult, but it does matter to him. -
There's a free beta demo for members of the Machichaco Sailing group based at the Sjogin Owner's Club in Schilli (if you look on the SL map, there's a sky sign - you can't miss it). It will only work until 25th February though, when the formal 90 minute demo and the main boat will be released

Clothes for TMP Male (yes, the old one)
Leonardis Ducatillon replied to Leonardis Ducatillon's topic in Fashion
Right, and I've seen those thank you. I was wondering if there were specific in-world stores though that people knew of? -
I'm going to preface this rather niche request with a couple of disclaimers: - 1. Yes, I know TMP Male is old to the point of obsolescence, and that I "should" update to a newer body if I want an easier life in dressing my toon. However, I don't want to - the head I have on my TMP feels the most "me" and I've tried recreating it with even Lelutka Evo with various BOM add ons; something has changed in the years since and I can't seem to get the same look (note: I have alts with Jake/Gianni and either Lelutka EvoX or Catwa heads, so I'm aware of what's around). Unfortunately the TMP head will not work with newer mesh bodies, even by Legacy who are the descendants of TMP. 2. Yes, I know no one makes new clothes for TMP Male anymore, I'm not expecting the world I'm not a fashionista, so I don't need the latest fashions on my guy - and a lot of time I'm on the beach/sailing anyway, which reduces the need for specific clothing (I have plenty of gear for this). However, it would be nice to have some clothing for other scenarios, casual, smart casual, formal and so on. I do have some, from Dufaux, Gabriel, Ascend and some of the older Fitmesh clothing even by the likes of Deadwool works if I use my alpha HUD correctly. Thing is, I didn't buy enough of this kind of thing back then when it was available more freely. Does anyone know of any good clothing merchants who still sell in their older range decent clothing for TMP Male?

That worked perfectly, Carla, thank you! ❤️ Last question, which I suspect I know the answer to - you can't actually change the altitudes at which the thresholds change on Mainland, can you? (i.e. let's say I wanted Sky2 to be at 600m). I ask because before EEP came in, we used to be able to do that with the code people often inserted in the Parcel Description like this... /*"Sky@0-999m: "[TOR] DUSK - Blue hour" "Sky@2000-4096m: "[TOR] SCIFI - Albedo 0.39" Water: [TOR] Meridian verde */

Just to hearken back to Aethelwine's post back in June, the Machichaco - a beautiful new boat from Isard, the maker of the Sjogin - is finally going to be for sale this Friday. I have a beta demo version, see the pictures below.
-
I've never really understood EEP settings, so I thought this thread would be a Godsend. And, to the extent that I can now actually assign the EEP settings to altitudes, it has been (thanks). However, I can't seem to get the changes to actually take effect. I'm on Mainland group land (I'm a co-owner). Here are my settings: https://gyazo.com/51ac57fc5f019b6c57fa911fa17516d4 Normally, I go around with a Windlight setting on, but as you can see from the Quick Preferences box next to this, I tried putting the Sky back down to Default. I should be seeing some quite funky EEP effects (I've deliberately chosen some pretty florid ones for this test), but I'm not. What am I doing wrong?

Question about being stalked.
Leonardis Ducatillon replied to lomemori's question in Abuse and Griefing
Oh, and if you already haven't got an alt that isn't socially involved with the same group of friends/acquaintances - I would suggest to make one now. Hang out at totally different places - the key for the test is complete separation. If you see your stalker turn up to your new alt's location, there's definitely something going on outside of SL! Using my previous post and this one as two separate experiments may help you work out what's going on. But I fear Sandi's options 2 and 3 might be valid too. If that is the case, moving on to your new alt for any social activities (with no reference to the old account), whilst maybe keeping the original account strictly separately for business/creative work only (let her stalk that account to see if she enjoys it - I guarantee she will be bored!) -
even after 16 years in SL I need avatar help
Leonardis Ducatillon replied to Riley Brinner's topic in Your Avatar
I'm not really an expert on female heads, but Lelutka EvoX seems to have the biggest range in both the male and female side. You can also change individual elements like brows with tattoo layers in Baked On Mesh (if you've not been using BOM in SL so far, it is confusing to start with but well worth learning), so if you find say a face in that panel that Ayashe posted, you can potentially still somewhat change the look with the right skin / brow / makeup options. One thing I've very certain about, there will be a way for you to preserve the "DNA" of your original look but updated with modern body components, just keep trying demos until you find what works. In a way, being a fair-skinned red-head may help you a little, as there is relatively less out there, but still options. While this could be seen as being annoying, it also makes it easier to "zero in" on the choices (you run the risk of being overwhelmed with options if you are blonde or brunette). -
Question about being stalked.
Leonardis Ducatillon replied to lomemori's question in Abuse and Griefing
I wouldn't worry about collecting evidence as long as you do not transmit/share it within Linden Lab infrastructure - i.e. inworld chat, group chats, even here in the forum. LL ToS/Community Standards refers to their domains only, they are powerless to act on you if you store information outside of LL infrastructure. As long as you are very clear about that distinction, I'm not sure you can get into trouble. However, what you do with that information may be very limited by definition unless you use it to formally report Abuse to LL - which you say you've already done to no avail. Ultimately, the "nuclear option" is to just start again with a new account and not to refer to your old life at all (keep your existing avatar for your business work, but leave it at that). As someone has said, even changing username will keep your UUID. You could try something though as an experiment first - go to a no-script area parcel that you haven't been to before and hang out for a while . See if your stalker turns up or not; if she does, there's potentially something outside of SL going on. Good luck. -
Some very good advice here already. I will only add, make sure that you focus in on a small number of things to improve on at a time, or you will find it overwhelming. Find something that you genuinely love doing - because it will take time and effort of course - and that you have a knack for, otherwise you'll be bashing your head against a brick wall. So part of the process is being honest with yourself about what your strengths and weaknesses are. A long long time ago (probably 14 years ago), I decided I wanted to learn scripting as it seemed like "magic" here in SL. Although I could do a bit here or there, I found I didn't have a knack for it, it was all very forced and I realised I would never be a great scripter, so I gave up on it. Now, I could have just continued anyway to become eventually an "OK scripter" (at best), but I had other things I wanted to spend my time on. Secondly, while I hugely admire and respect people who can build, texture and mesh from scratch - my own skills in this area, since the era of mesh certainly, were too far behind to catch up because I don't just don't have the knack for graphics or 3D creation programs (or art creation IRL, even since childhood). I was a pretty good builder in the era of basic prims/textures years and years ago, but that was using in-world tools only, essentially. I have other skills though: I am really good at organisation - so I ran very successful groups and sims; I can write well so I partook in text-form roleplay for many years until fatigue and time constraints took their toll. Despite not being a content creator, I do seem to have a knack for arranging items other people have produced, so I can "create" (or arrange) aesthetically pleasing builds in SL. Nowadays, I like to sail in organised groups - that I don't organise myself (because I've done enough of that over the years, lol). I do it because it's relaxing, it's far more social than just building parcels by myself and there is some skill and coordination involved. Even though I'm not an RL sailor, I'd like to think it's put me at least partway in the knowledge for perhaps that day in the future where I decide to try it IRL. I fully recognise I'm probably in the "retirement" phase in SL having been here since 2005; I'm simplifying my lifestyle to the things that I enjoy and not "working" anymore, either for myself or others. I'm fairly sure though if I didn't have a demanding RL job as well, that I'd still be doing something with more activity and drive, because that's in my nature and I'm not really anywhere near as old as I sound here, lol. Good luck!

If you do hide out under an alt for a few months, as others have suggested, one thing you could consider when returning to the main account down the line is to formally change your name (not just the display name in the profile) - it will cost L$ to do this (https://community.secondlife.com/knowledgebase/english/usernames-and-display-names-r79/#changing-usernames), but it will totally alter your name in search and so on. Now, if your stalker's alts are still in your friends' list, that may not help entirely, but if you don't make a big song and dance of "I'm baaaaack!", the change may be enough to throw them off, as their attention will have moved on anyway. At this point, it might be an idea to prune your friends list down to those whom you truly trust and interact with regularly - even people who haven't done you harm whom you've not interacted with in years perhaps could be let go, just in case. If you go back to activities in groups with the new name, just start without the big announcement and see what happens. Good luck.

I'm presenting to you a very special 1,120 square meter, 288 land impact plot (http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Miru/247/150/22) in "Miru" Region, just four sims away from the very epicenter of Second Life at "Da Boom" (the first Region in SL). Miru is a pleasant and quiet Region with some beautiful surrounding builds, including landscaped islands with waterboats and an Eastern Orthodox Church. This plot is directly adjacent to a Protected Linden water channel, and this opens in the very next Region into the L-Shaped Lake. Therefore, this is a perfect place to have a small house with a dock for boating. If you are into boating/sailing, you can easily sail from here to Heterocera to the North, or to other parts of Sansara including the Bay of Space Pigs, Mare Secundum, the Ice Bay and the Bay of Fables, or in the other direction to Abbott's and to Bay City. It is therefore, due to its central location and waterside access, ideally located to reach most waterside areas in Sansara. There is also access to a Linden road via the neighboring plot which is public-access to all if you prefer driving. Pictures: - 1. The plot as it currently looks (builds not included in sale): https://gyazo.com/1da9f67fae19b4a4f423ca6453a17555 2. A view of the protected water channel in front leading to the L-Shaped Lake in the background: https://gyazo.com/ff33580aa645363488896dd14ae85eed The plot is currently priced at L$ 22,400 (L$ 20/sqm, which is very competitive for a plot of this size with protected Linden water access in this area).

Blake Sea is now up on Aditi!
Leonardis Ducatillon replied to Mazidox Linden's topic in Second Life Server
So, here's my comparison with my two posts from last Wednesday (22nd July). As a recap, I had a horrible experience then, crashed at every sim boundary pretty much and even when taking precautions and with a script-light avatar. I was looking forward today to seeing with the same avatar how the improvements would change things. For reference: [12:17] Script info: 'Leonardis Ducatillon': [25/25] running scripts, 1460 KB allowed memory size limit, 0.049499 ms of CPU time consumed. I initially sailed from the Windlass boathouse to the Newport East Jetty in "Japan" in my Nacra. Sooooo smooth! I can honestly say I did not feel a single sim boundary (what sim boundary? It was one giant sim, surely?!). All in all, a very pleasant - if gentle - experience. I then decided to get naughty. First using my Sea BOSS jetski and then BOSS 225 motorboat, I did the boy racer thing of charging around. The mild blips at the sim boundaries were a bit more noticeable at 35-40 knots but barely interrupted things and far superior to a cautious sim crossing in Agni at present. Now, I wanted to break it since it was being so well-behaved. Even ramming the four-sim intersections at the top speeds of both these motor vessels did not result in an avatar detachment or crash. There was a more evident 'blip' at the crossing, but it was comparable to a normal two-sim transition in Agni. I then took to the skies in my DHC-2 Turbobeaver seaplane. In this, I could reach 80 knots and I attacked the sim boundaries again at top speed with abandon, and other than a few slight jars (but none that spun me right round, baby right round) I was fine doing all sorts of crazy aeronautics that I wouldn't normally dare do in SL. I did manage to achieve an avatar detachment on four occasions, but these were each at the four-sim intersections going at 80 knots. Crossing these at a more moderate speed appeared to be safe. Finally, I sailed back to base in an Ushuaia, first at a normal speed, then with a highly unrealistic 200kt windspeed with full spinnaker and motor, going at nearly 40 knots. Again, no problems with any sim boundaries at all. The whole test this time lasted about an hour, and I could not cause an avatar detachment error or full SL crash in a boat, as hard as I tried. Only in the plane, and only then when flying with a deathwish, was I able to cause any significant issues. Colour me impressed! (with the usual caveats as to whether this will translate to a full version of SL, yada yada). If this is where SL is going vis-a-vis sim crossings in the sea, it will be so much more fun. -
Blake Sea is now up on Aditi!
Leonardis Ducatillon replied to Mazidox Linden's topic in Second Life Server
Well, to answer your question, in the post above that I used my Ushuaia and then my BOSS 225 before going on to the Sea Boss.
