  1. Linden Lab is definitely NOT targeting addicts. Nope. Not at all. Okay, maybe I'll just make one more post...
  2. Depends on which one you're talking about. Some give actual prizes as part of the game, including L$. Others are more of a community contest system, where people are paid out by the host of the fishing contest. In both scenarios you actually get something for playing, aside from simple fun of playing an actual game.
  3. I made a simple gambling addiction helpline sign, with a handy stick you can hold on to. If anyone wants a copy you can get them for free from my store or by messaging me in world.
  4. This is abusive. Flat out abusive. This is Linden Labs trying to profit off of people who will become addicted to gambling or who already have an addiction. I live in a city with a bunch of casinos and although I'm not a gambler myself I have no issues with people who decide to do so responsibly. After all, they have the chance to actually profit off it. There's a, slim, potential for them to actually get something in return for winning and making their lives better. The only return here is a dopamine hit when you win. This is straight up profiteering off of addicts.

  6. I've personally reported at least a dozen of accounts for impersonation, including the one that visited Coffee. We've also been kicking out any fakes from the official group as we spot them. If it's not in the ACTUAL group(someone made an impersonation group as well. -.- ) or listed on the website, it's not one of ours and we can't do anything besides report it. And reporting around a dozen only resulted in about three being deleted. Possible others were banned and not fully removed though. If one of the BB accounts is popping into your house and you POLITELY message us about it, we might be willing to come look and help. Ranting and going off like a Karen will likely result in snark.
  7. Except they go on to say So LL made it extremely clear they have NO interest in enforcing anything related to personal data. They recommend contacting legal authorities. Again though, anything available within SL isn't personal data. By definition it's all anonymous or pseudonymous. If, say, a website were to show your IP address and your physical address, your username and your legal name, or your username and enough descriptors to physically identify your natural body, those would all be violations of PII. There's no way to do that though with the information provided via the SL platform unless you, yourself, make that information public.
  8. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Using_Personal_Data Key section though is "capable of identifying an individual user, account, computer, or household." Although there is data stored on Linden Labs databases that qualify(payment data, mac address, IP address, etc), there is no such data stored within the Second Life platform itself that provides data that can be used by itself to identify an individual user, account, computer, or household. The closest someone can get, short of hacking LL itself, is someone's IP address. Which by itself isn't PII because you can't fully identify someone.
  9. That's actually leads into a whole nother topic that's hilarious. LL lists a bunch of examples of PII that aren't. IP addresses have actually been ruled in multiple court cases to not be PII unless associated with enough other data to identify someone. An anonymous username, such as all of them on Second Life, are not PII because they are anonymous. Information has to actually be able to identify any actual "natural person" to be considered PII. Nothing contained within the SL grid is PII by that definition.
  10. Residents should have the ability to control access, I agree, to their own land. I've repeatedly stated support for parcel and private region controls as well as ability to identify scripted agents via script command. If this was set up so individual parcel owners could toggle the option, cool. If they set it so that 50% of the parcels were set to no-bots on the region and that made the whole region automatically no-bots, cool. All this decision does is take away further control and access to the residents and promotes the subversion of the rules. Also, for anyone who's saying "Well, LL will just ban people who don't mark their bot accounts as scripted agents!" Nope. LL is HORRIBLE at detecting what accounts are bots, they don't actually have anyone or anything actively monitoring for this. We actually had an account banned that WAS marked as a scripted agent for being a scripted agent. LL is horrible at enforcement of their policies, which anyone with experience of reporting violations can testify to.
  11. Doesn't work. The bot ban is at an estate level, which means that parcel controls can't override it. If the estate has the no bot setting active, such as Linden Home regions, there is NO WAY for an account marked as a scripted agent to enter that estate. Thus invalidating the rights of those who do own and live there.
  12. So instead of giving actual parcel control to the PAYING MEMBERS you give in to a few people crying and take away the ability for EVERYONE to have a bot at their Linden Home. Guess I'm moving off Belli. I really enjoyed having this quiet little parcel I could retreat to, but if Belli is going to be full HOA without any even discussion with the residents, then I'm not interested in being there.
  13. Happy belated rez day! Just think, two more years and you can legally drink! Hoping we can bring back the rez day board soon, feel like rez day celebrations are a very neglected part of SL!
  14. There have been multiple fundraisers by both stores and groups within SL which have done similar. Matter of fact, I just happened to stumble on this store that I'm sure is totally unrelated to this discussion aside from the fact that it's currently running a fundraiser itself. Was a little disappointed they didn't have anything for M. Petite, but I wish them luck on the fundraiser! http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Tihuta/92/150/1802
  15. My pet peeve is people who continuously cast shade on one thing while ignoring the exact same concerns with another thing. Direct quotes from the linked website which are eerily similar to answers provided to you, but were found unsatisfactory. "Nothing that is not available by the usual scripts will be collected!" " Q: Are you tracking avatar locations? A: NO! There is no sense in tracking locations of avatars. It would take a complete army of bots to do so. Many regions arent even accessable. So sooner or later a person would disappear from screen. Q: Is there a way to hide from bots? A: Logout! Really anyone in SL with enough patience can read the data."
  16. The amount of premium plus users is embarrassingly small. The incentives simply aren't there for most users to increase their membership. I'm of the mindset that the amount of L in circulation is actually a set number, only occasionally increased by LL. After all, why raise the fees on the marketplace sales to 10% if they aren't taking that L$ and reselling it themself? That 10% has to equate to an actual USD amount or they wouldn't be bothering to collect it. If that is the case, then it's very likely they sit on a huge reserve of L$ when the exchange difference isn't in their favor. Letting it naturally fluctuate a little makes sense, but LL can influence to a degree simply by restricting how much they sell themselves.
  17. Preview of the build I've been working on. I was going to invite @Patch Lindenhere for some greedy, to spend the second hour with him that I won from the auctions at WinterExpo. Released him of his obligations though, he's had enough to deal with lately.

Great organization, may not be curing the world of cancer, but tries to help make sure children have a decent childhood.
  19. We're currently in the process of refining the process and creating public statements in regards to the opt out feature. No one involved in the project ever expected the level of attention received. Please bare with us while the changes are being made. If you do change your mind, please note you can add yourself again by simply messaging "opt in."
  20. Amazingly enough this is something Coffee and I can agree on. CTS Wardrobe is 100% best tool currently to manage your inventory. Just be forewarned that it WILL DEVOUR YOUR LIFE. I absolutely love it, am happy with how much time I've put into it, but depending on your use it can easily take over a considerable amount of your time.
  21. You quite literally are not banned. There's 11 people on the ban list. You aren't one of them. And no. There's no way to gather your IP or magically know the IP of your alts. Regardless what some conspiracy nuts will lead you to believe.
  22. https://secure.acsevents.org/site/STR?pg=entry&fr_id=104349 Second Life members have raised over $3 million dollars for Relay For Life. Fantasy Faire, one of the largest events, raised L$25,834,863 or $103,339USD last year. Sure, some of the people involved have met up in person, but most never will. There's a whole bunch of people who've met their significant other via Second Life or other online platforms. There's also a whole bunch of people who couldn't freely be themself in their first life, due to local politics or feelings, who are able to be themself in SL. Others who are disabled and stuck in their house, with Second Life giving them a chance to socialize they'd otherwise not have. Some people may not need or desire what SL offers. That's perfectly okay. Some of us consider it a core part of ourselves though. That's also perfectly okay.
