Thanks.  When you say 'Your inventory is the worst place for backup. It goes missing all the time'.  How often is 'all the time'?  I haven't noticed anything go missing as yet?

And sorry to sound a dummy - but i'm quite new, so don't really understand the instructions you gave which state 'rez a prim in-world, and drag copied of your boxed items into that prim'

All the time just means that it happens often enough. I don’t have the statistics, only Linden Lab can tell you how many support tickets they get from residents.

    found you a tutorial

Nothing in life is risk-free, whether you are talking about SL or RL.  Still, it never hurts to have backups and to label things well enough so you can retrace your steps if you need to.  Keeping an original unpacked object makes sense.  You could either put it in a folder, as you have, or you could rez a prim and put all similar unpacked items in it. Then store that prim -- appropriately labeled -- in your inventory.  Keeping a bunch of storage boxes like that in your inventory is like putting your Christmas ornaments or other rarely-used items into boxes in your attic.  There's always a risk that your inventory might blow up and you could lose all or part of the stuff you have stashed there, but that's a low risk.  It's also why many shops (and the Marketplace) have a redelivery option, so you can replace things that go missing.

Having said all that, there are many things not worth keeping. When you buy clothes, for example, you often get a huge stack of items, most of which you will never use because they are designed for mesh bodies that you do not have.  You also accumulate loads of duplicate landmarks, time-sensitive notecards, and pointless "unpack me" scripts, all of which you can toss.  Once you start building things or scripting, you will have an ungodly mess of trial versions (that's my own headache), most of which you will never go back and look at. Overweight inventory is a peril that we all live with, the longer we are in SL.  Not only does it make it harder to find stuff after a while, but it can actually hurt performance and, in some circumstances, even make it hard to log in.  It pays to plan ahead and to be ruthless about deleting things you no longer need. (Not that most of us ever follow that advice .... 🙄 )

Your inventory is the worst place for backup. It goes missing all the time. A quick scan of the forum and you’ll see that businesses and residents have lost thousands of items through no fault of their own. They’re not idiots that just didn’t clear cache or whatever, this is a real loss that the Lab does not have a fix for.

I am probably answering my own question here by asking it.  Call me OCD - But by default I put the actual main box/packed item for EVERYTHING i buy in a protected inventory folder I've created called PURCHASES.  Then I make a copy of that boxed item, and use the copy for actual use/unpacking etc.  By doing that - does that protect me if ever I lose anything that is not returned to me?  I am guessing it does?  But who knows - i am learning stuff every day about this crazy new world !!

No. Second life is notorious for losing huge chunks of residents inventory and they say it is irrecoverable. Your best bet is to rez a prim in-world, and drag copied of your boxed items into that prim. Linden Lab only backs up regions, so if those back-up prims ever go missing, they can roll back the region. Trust me on this. A linden will confirm that your inventory is NOT backed up by any servers. Buy stuff at your own risk.

Edit to say that you can also redeliver some purchases but you’re also at the mercy of those merchants having a redelivery system and second life losing it all again.

Yes, I went. there and quickly grabbed it before checking to see why the basket wasn't texturing correctly. It is missing the texture. I've confirmed it with rezzing it at my sky platform.

Ariskea products tend to have missing texture issues. I avoid them mostly.

  7. Patch is a trickster, but the hint is really good. The quote is from this Disney ride at Epcot. I've been there, it's a viking ship and some viking legend. But if it's just Epcot in general, it could be China, Japan, Mexico, or any of the other countries represented there.

As mentioned by others the theme reveal will be SL18B and the theme of SL18B this year is Hidden Worlds - I don't know how much the new home theme might be related to that, but in inworld chat the other day when people asked about a clue the only thing Patch said was "You are not the first to pass this way. Nor shall you be the last." Now I don't know for sure if that actually was a clue or not. My first thought was a fantasy theme, and  I don't think it would be impossible to have some kind of fantasy theme, just as there was for the first gen homes. I'm not sure to what extent it would be in a true fantasy style though as all of the land houses so far have a similar build, so I would think it would be pretty much like that with variations in decor, roofing maybe and landscaping as usual.

Just my thoughts. I'm looking forward to the reveal though, they are always fun.

(not sure what's happened to the line spacing😵)

Based on Patch's clue... it will either be viking ships or norwegian cottages.

Viewed on the world map, I find Bellisseria to be the ugliest and most artificial looking continent compared to the others. None of its coastal shapes or terrain look geologically natural. Even it's darker grass colour is wrong and irritates me.

Bellisseria reminds me of housing developments found on artificial islands built off the United Arab Emirates' coastline, pictured below.

    The_universe.jpg

However, Bellisseria has one redeeming feature, it acts as a convenient bridge between Sansara, Jeogeot and Satori, which I am grateful for.

But I do wish Bellisseria had been designed and built more carefully with a more pleasing and natural looking geological appearance that blends with its neighbouring continents, as I feel that it has "spoiled" the map.

Agree. The first batch of homes had more natural coastlines (trad/boats). The worst of it has to be the squarish islands of stilts.

Here is a photo of the orange cloud at Plage Marsouin.  (There are actually two there now, both with random number/letter names, no profiles, and no interaction. I tried to pay one a Linden and there was no response.

The orange-cloud-with-a-profile is still at the stilt-house in Lost Caves, although it has moved underwater, indicating some level of intelligence.

I'm still curious - does putting an orange cloud on a to-be-claimed parcel increase your chances of getting it later?

    Just wondering.

Thanks for the visuals! I have never seen orange clouds before, just blobs when people aren’t rezzed. I admit I don’t venture off my platform much lol

This is our Chalet home, it was really nice to decorate but I did struggle a lot. I am very picky with the colors and want to always use colors what blends with each others that much as I can :D Still prims left, so might use more on kitchen.

You're right, that's totally Trompe L'oeil's cottage, lamps and all. How weird that they would use someone's prefab for a Linden Home ad, when they have wonderful homes that they BUILT ??  maybe someONE was outed  ...

One fine day, Joe copy artist Linden asks some nameless Mole for a few pics of Linden Homes.

"Sure, Joe!  Just let me fish around on my disk ... there ya go!"  (accidentally includes a pic of their business inventory)

Joe contentedly lays out a few LH thumbnails and sends them to the website monkeys.

The Tromp could mean Linden Land, because who can afford the prims on a linden homes budget LOL

    Hello.

I have recently returned to SL after being gone over a decade & discovered Linden Homes after a week or so of being back.  I managed to claim a Victorian which I adore but there are two different Mole created pathways on the property.

One is obviously for the front door. What is the purpose of the second pathway?  It's seems oddly out of place.

    Any answers are appreciated.

    it's for a "garage" the 2nd is a driveway

    - Rotate the house.

    - All Linden items used in a theme in the pack. (Palm trees, stones, wall trims, etc)

    - Superduper Premium, for double prims.

    - The option to switch a Linden home from an alt to your main. Lost one again this weekend, still sick of it. (I would pay for this!)

    - The option that if I derrender something on my parcel, that visitors also don't see it. (or be able to make Linden stuff transparent)

The last one is such a good one!
