Did you allow windows UAC to let SL voice through the firewall? Try adding the slvoice application through the firewall in the settings for it or turn off the firewall to see if that’s causing it. Usually the first time I run a fresh install of SL windows will prompt for allowing the slvoice plugin past the firewall.
  2. To be fair he’s probably not wrong. we’re all in the woodworks scurrying about, waiting for the population of noobs to vanish so we can reclaim the popular info hubs and social islands you just wait /s
  3. For OP to ask elsewhere as I mentioned earlier, the LTT forums are pretty good for this. Steady supply of nerds who do nothing but research computer parts all day. @Eaglehex Specially this subforum https://linustechtips.com/main/forum/18-new-builds-and-planning/ Where you just gotta post with a budget and goal in mind and they can direct you towards what to buy either as a custom build, off the shelf prebuilt, or help you pick the right options for local sales on Craigslist or whatever. Specify that SL likes 3 things; -good single core cpu performance, you don’t need a super high core count cpu -cache is important, fast storage drives -graphically runs well on entry level cards like a 1050/1050ti or similar Specify if you want to build your own, get a store PC, custom build service, or upgrade a prebuilt. There are a lot of little finicky details with PC building, the assembly itself is super easy but it’s knowing what to buy that’s hard. My general baseline you should be looking for if getting a PC for SecondLife is a Ryzen 5 of some kind, 8 or 16gb of DDR4 (preferably 2666mhz or higher), an NVMe or at least m.2 SSD of the capacity you need, and for a gpu look for an RX 570, 3gb GTX 1060 or better. There are other things to be concerned about such as the motherboard chipset, cooler, airflow of the case or whatever, but for an “at a glance” at what to buy, just look for that. Ryzen 5, 8/16gb, RX 570, SSD
  4. if that was the case you wouldnt be posting factually incorrect statements, ie "lies", because you'd probably be able to figure out you cant fit a square peg in a round hole. Forum etiquette isnt hard. Read the question, post a researched answer. :) Dont glance over the question and basically just toss whatever info is at the tip of your tongue at the screen and hope for the best.
  5. keep digging yourself that hole you told OP a 1050 was gonna fit in a USFF thinkcenter, you can try and reword it however you want, but you didnt bother to even click that link to see what the PC was before just trying to brush off their question now im not here to argue, im here to help OP, but if people are gonna keep posting generally wrong things then im going to step in as someone who actually knows what theyre talking about to make sure someone less tech literate isnt being lied to
  6. tl;dr on this is that i just gave up and installed Windows 7 sp1 again i tried but the 32 bit linux clients that did exist or at least had some out of date version were nonfunctional or wouldnt install, not really sure why, again firestorm worked fine days ago and then just crapped the bed one day at least i can use the regular LL viewer again and if youre wondering how SL performs on a laptop from 2006, bad.
  7. Op asked, and i quote: to which you answered: Which is outright wrong, because youre not gonna fit any video card into a compact PC that has no expansion slots at all. double check what you post
  8. Wouldnt physically fit, thats a USFF (ultra small form factor) model. It doesnt have the space nor physical connectivity for any video card. Thats also a really bad price for any M92p or similar age office desktop. double check yourself real quick
  9. I think I read into this wrong. i do not suggest the SecondLife forums for tech stuff in general, blind leading the blind and all that, no offense to the people here but there’s like a handful of people who really know this stuff well enough to give you an accurate answer check out the linustechtips forums and ask them about buying a secondhand gaming PC, they’ll be a lot more helpful for pointing you in the right direction
  10. Thanks, I’ll look into both of those tomorrow. And I would, but this is 32 bit hardware. The T2400 is a Core Duo, not Core2 Duo
  11. My avatar is short and flatter than a frying pan. Glasses sometimes but not always.
  12. The avatar system. Basic avatars and clothing with alpha layers aren’t the hardest to explain to noobs and they can figure it out petty quick. Once you get into mesh or specialized bodies that’s where things get complex and it goes over the average noobs head without extensive research. I still barely know how to use kemono. It’s one thing to use the avatar appearance editor because it makes things so easy, stuff fits into special slots just for that category of stuff and it’s nice and simple to navigate. Give a noob a mesh body and watch them try to figure it out. None of the regular SL stuff is used, you gotta add individual parts. Alpha out your entire body, more tweaking is to be done via a provided HUD, many come with a variety of alternative options, then you need clothing that may be proprietary to that avatar body style and if it isn’t you will likely still need to modify your body alpha cuts to get it to work right, Some stuff won’t line up right and you’ll need to adjust it manually which... oh boy if you have used any kind of 3D software in the past then that little reference node and orientation Axis guides aren’t that unfamiliar. You can figure out how to move and rotate your accessory correctly. Most people can’t, that is entirely alien to them. I showed a noob how to do that and they thought they broke the game or entered some kind of developer mode. Manually changing body textures, even I just learned that recently. My avatar was nsfw by default and to make it SFW there wasn’t an extra provided shape or skin, I had to change the textures used in my skin and that’s not complicated once you know how, but until you do that’s this weird process of hoping you don’t break anything and not knowing if it’s actually right or not. Kemono skin appliers. Just put a big syringe in my hand, I have no idea how to use that, I clicked on it and it didn’t do anything. Turns out it only works with a special version of the kemono body and even after that my body would randomly twitch and the new skin wasn’t the exact right shade and supposedly I had done everything right but I gave up on kemono after that. I couldn’t explain that to a noob if I wanted to. There needs to be a much more universal way for character customization in a formal and simple to use UI, including manual adjustment. That system as it is has a very steep learning curve and I’m willing to bet it’s things like that which drive people away when they start. It’s too complicated for a casual player.
  13. Question why my irl framerates were dropping from all the flexi.
  14. A lot more than you would think, if you don’t go anywhere and the place you login is mostly cached, then you just have to deal with a tiny amount of information from other avatars. I’ve gotten away with using tethered 3G off my phone that way (comparable to slightly faster than 56k dialup). But you have to turn avatars off, some people’s avatars are 10-30mb each and a bunch of them loading at once will eat up hundreds of megabytes of data. Loading spaces as well can be extremely data intensive. I wouldn’t use mobile phone data for that. If you just want to chat then disable 4G LTE, tether over 3G and use something like radegast as a text viewer to talk to people with next to no mobile data usage.
  15. So you’re still rocking a c2d and 8800 GTS? I admire the dedication I can’t play anymore because my one functioning computer at the moment is a Thinkpad from 2006 with a Mobile core duo t2400 and 3gb of ram with integrated intel 950gm But all the linux 32 bit viewers are broken so I gotta install Windows 7 or something today to get it functional again
  16. I’m a computer nerd so I live for this stuff i guess a way to bench it would be that the minimum requirements back then wouldn’t be able to even run Windows 7, let alone Windows 10, not doing anything on it, just displaying the desktop would be impossible. The radeon 8500 is old enough to visit A rated spaces here now. As for how fast tech was moving, I have my GPU from 2004 still, a radeon 9250. And I was a broke dumb kid who got it for Christmas, this was a very entry level low end gpu, and this card completely wiped the floor with 2001’s high end stuff with its “amazing” 128mb of vram. I love that little banner ad “SecondLife Mobile?” Because yeah, I’m sure our Cingular Nokias with green backlit monochrome displays were gonna enter a virtual world. I could imagine going back in time “so did we ever get SecondLife on our phones?” Well, our phones are now incredibly powerful mobile computers that outperform even the highest end workstations of your time. ”Incredible, surely there must be SecondLife for Mobile on it if the game is still around?” This phone has enough storage space to hold 2.1 million high resolution pictures of cats and display them in 3840x2160 resolution. ”SecondLife. Phone.” Theres a buggy version that only works on some phones and nobody uses it because it performs terribly and costs money.
  17. I get a lot of PMs from newbies who want to get into the furry scene on SL and tend to approach me because my demeanor, outfit and avatar are all very plain. Thats always nice to direct them toward groups, shops and noob friendly clubs.
  18. So now that firestorm has decided to drop support for 32 bit linux, and now their older version that does work is "blocked" for some unholy reason even though it worked absolutely fine yesterday, what viewer do i use for 32 bit linux? The LL viewer is uhh... lets just not talk about the LL viewer, its never worked as far as i know. anyone have any suggestions on what to do here? what viewer should i be using, this system can run SL as old as it is, a day ago it was running firestorm on here just fine, and now that version of the viewer is "blocked"
  19. It’s the same in real life Sometimes I get carded and they’re like “oh nvm you’re 22” and I’m like... 22? Where did 21, 20 and 19 go?
  20. Partying orange orangutans kick you. B L I S S
  21. I specifically moved to the SL body version of my avatar just to reduce complexity slightly, I usually hover around 35-40k
  22. So as far as I understand, if I bought premium, didn’t claim or gave up my linden home, I could buy a sub 1024m^2 parcel of land and own it fully? What happens to that land if I stopped renewing my premium? Can that land be any type or is it restricted to a certain type? G, M, A? Is there any associated cost or fees to maintain after buying the land, provided it fits the restrictions of base tier SL premium by being under 1024m squares?
  23. I need to sell off my workstation since I’m not in that line of work anymore and it’s been pretty much unused since it’s last upgrade, so I’m looking to seriously downgrade. I currently have a Threadripper 1950x, 64gb of 2400mhz ECC ddr4, and two Polaris radeon pro duos. It’s not amazing for SL which is inherently bad at utilizing this type of hardware, but it plays very smoothly. But I’m going to be selling it, and I don’t need much. I play in 1680x1050, settings don’t matter much, framerate doesn’t matter much. But I want something very quiet and very low power. The above workstation taxed out for a project would noticeably increase my power bill and the system was designed with creature comforts omitted, its loud. So I’m looking into something as quiet and low power as possible, it doesn’t have to be an amazing performer if SL runs well. There is currently an athlon 5350 APU with 16gb of 1600mhz DDR3 and an aftermarket alpine cooler on Craigslist near me for about 50$. Looking into the Athlon 5350 it’s no crazy performer but it gets the job done for a lot of games. Im not too experienced with that era of hardware, I’m good with current gen and really old stuff but I didn’t really bother with my computer from 2010-2016. If anyone has an AM1 APU based system and could provide any insight on expected performance I would be interested. I know it won’t be amazing but there aren’t exactly YouTube benchmarks of the Athlon 5350 playing SL. Lots of it playing other games though. If I get it I’m just gonna grab a cheap SSD, I have a decent power supply sitting around I’ll be using, and I’ll probably buy a cheap case with sound proofing. I was suggested a modern system but for my needs now being web browsing and basic 2D drafting I don’t need powerful hardware anymore, so if something like this could also net me playable results in SL then it’s a cheap way to get the computer I need.
