  1. Hello! It's been almost exactly a year since I last posted anything in this thread: (It's been a difficult 18 months in RL, as is the case for many others.) But, having taken a look at the massive L$ balance in my account recently, I've decided to revamp my Winchester trad. Prior to this, I'd set it up as a photo gallery, but as I didn't really promote it only a couple of people stopped by. It's still a gallery on the ground floor, but the upstairs is now a cafe, and I've redone the garden to make it a pretty and peaceful place to hang out. It'll be added to the next update of the "Resident Owned Places of Interest" listing maintained by @PrudenceAnton, but you can beat the crowds (ha!) and take a look before then! http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Walrus Beach/83/112/33 Just a quick walk down to the waterfront - if you listen closely, you can hear the waves crashing against the houseboat moorings every now and then!
  2. Oops, quoted wrong comment. Too excited about all the Lisp furniture!
  3. I may have been premature in posting this - took a look at my L$ balance and thought I might as well spend some of it on a paint shell. This is what the house looks like now. And I still have about 35LI left And having the sounds of water and birds in the background makes all the difference!
  4. Many thanks again - will do! [Edit] I've been playing around with the placement of the original sound controllers you mentioned - that hadn't occurred to me - and now I have the slightly muffled sound of waves in the distance and 2 sources of bird song that are louder, and it's great - thank you very much!
  5. Thank you, Eleanor! I couldn't find it in my inventory or notifications, but I've just gone to the MP to buy it and had a quick listen. I'd love to use the one with seagulls, but don't see any instructions for lowering the volume (my house is a bit away from the water, so ideally I'd like to hear my birdsong in the foreground with the waves and gulls in the background). Do you know if this is possible? If you haven't done this yourself, I'll contact the pack's creator.
  6. Thank you! At least pre-covid I was a cinema addict and went 2-3 times per week - these were some of the last films I got to see. I was planning on updating the posters every few weeks (IMDB makes that easy ). Maybe you or someone else reading this can help me with something - I've wandered around other parts of Bellisseria and heard lots of ambient sounds, but this house and the protected land around it is 'dead' - the only sounds I can hear are coming from the birdhouse I set up. My settings say that sounds *aren't* restricted to the parcel, so I should be hearing something - birds? - even if I'm too far away from the water to hear it lapping.
  7. My somewhat spartan (in comparison to others) Winchester is now fully decorated. Haven't been able to be in SL for, well, months, and I'm not sure how long I'll keep up a premium sub, but for now my house is open to anyone who wants to visit: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Walrus Beach/88/112/33
  8. Hi, Marianne- I've finally been able to 'finish' decorating my house, and it's now open to the public (it includes a photo gallery downstairs), so you can try out all the animations in the kitchen and the dining table: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Walrus Beach/88/112/33
  9. Have just sent out another batch of invitations to Belli Home Hoppers! Have a good weekend, all! (For anyone else interested in joining the group, please send me a private message so as not to distract from the actual topic of this thread - ta )
  10. Will send. For anyone else, please send me a *Private Message* - I apologize for not realizing/remembering this is possible! And even if you're *not* hopping, anyone reading this is welcome! I'll be away from my computer until 2PM SL time, but will get back to you then!
  11. Have just seen this, Sylvia. I started the group back during the summer (have written more about it elsewhere in response to Chloe), and made it by invitation rather than an open group because I wanted to limit it to people who were active here in this thread, and because I didn't want to replicate something like Bellisseria Citizens. The idea was to take acquaintances met here and form a network of people who might become friends, not to amass a large number of people for the sake of it.
  12. As long as you don't mean up-to-the-minute breaking news type stuff! Anyone in the group can send out a message to all. (When it was first set up, several used it to alert the others of houses they were about to abandon in the wee hours.)
  13. To avoid lots of distracting responses from me, please consider a 'like' reaction from me as an invitation sent. You can also send me a message when logged into SL - will check for them and respond ~2PM SL time.
  14. Hello, all! A friend has just alerted me to this bit of the conversation. Yes, I set up the Belli Home Hoppers group back in August (?). My intent was not for it to be a chat-oriented group like the very large and active Bellisseria Citizens, but an informal network of people who'd been active on this forum thread during the summer so that we could keep in touch and find some friends within SL. I'd sent invitations to 40+ people who were regular contributors to this thread, and 14 responded by joining. My plan was to encourage those of us in the group to hold a series of open houses, once we'd settled in, and I was intending to start the ball rolling before Christmas. Unfortunately, several weeks of ill health limited my own efforts to get things done. (I'm a RL photographer, so one part of my house is being set up as a gallery, where I hope to hold bi-monthly open house exhibitions.) My situation is better now, and I'd been aiming to get in touch with the group with an invite to my house for 12th-16th Feb., but now a family funeral in a different part of the country means I'll be away from my computer for much of next week. I'd be happy to open the group to more people who are active here (I've only popped into this thread occasionally since I'm staying put in Walrus Beach) and am likewise open to designating interested folks as 'officers' , but am not keen to make it an "anyone can join" group as there are alternatives with that approach. So, anyone who wants to join - whether you're still hopping about or settled - add your name to this post, along with a note about what you'd like the group to be/do, and I'll send you an invitation. (Just be aware that I won't be able to respond between the 12th-15th.) PS- Apologies for this digression from "When did you last see...", but I do want the membership of Belli Home Hoppers to be drawn from this thread. (Yes, feel free to give me the names of your alts as well!) (Still working on optimizing the resolution of the photos.)
  15. Quercus alba = the scientific name for White Oak; a heavily-wooded area?
  16. Just swing your camera around until you can see the mailbox. I’ve been stuck inside the staircase of some Victorians when first TPing into them, and I can only move by using this method to rez a Doyle, then run to the front or back yard before the new house rezzes. Once you’re outside and have re-rezzed the house, try what Sylvia says.
  17. That was my alt’s (I left it as a pink Doyle) - a lovely spot that I only abandoned as the partly sandy plot didn’t suit the plants I have in my inventory. (I took some photos to post here but got distracted by the impeachment hearings.) So glad it went to someone who appreciates it!
  18. I had previously noticed the magenta squares, which are plentiful; this was the first time I've seen different-colored dots. Thanks. (Responding to Eowyn; forgot to quote!)
  19. Does anyone know what/who *pink* dots on the map represent?
  20. Ah, I've been away from this page for a while... (Still trying to decide if I'll abandon my Walrus Beach place, or upgrade my alt again.)
  21. Patch showed up in Chat about 5 minutes ago. So, for those looking, release within the next hour?
  22. Do keep checking this week if you can - the large release of Victorian regions can happen any time between now and Christmas! But, as others have said, if you're not online at the time the frenzy happens, there will be abandoned houses you should be able to pick up fairly easily later that day/evening. And just because someone else has abandoned it doesn't mean you won't like it yourself! Most regions contain 16-20 parcels. The part of Bellisseria that we're all referring to as being 'Victorian' will contain (by my estimate) between 2500-2600 homes, with a substantial number of them released in a single day. In terms of finding our what's happening regarding that release, follow this thread (see attached), and if you see a flurry of incoming comments, no need to read them all, just go to the Land Page if you can and start clicking and refreshing. Good luck!
  23. No way to know for sure during LL working hours on weekdays, unless you accept and manage to grab it. Anything you see 'after hours' will be an abandoned property. And keep in mind that if you want to abandon a house you've grabbed, you must be in-world on the parcel to do that before you can attempt to grab another house.
  24. Except that the Moles are, technically, mistaken: Jane Austen wrote and died before the Victorian era began. (And a couple of Knightley's feature in her book, Emma.) There's at least one character of Sir Walter Scott's (Ivanhoe) and one from Dickens (Dombey).
