  1. I use both BOM and appliers for my body, but I have to say I prefer the latter. I tend to be more visual when selecting what to wear, and applier HUDs can esily give me an idea of what things look like, as opposed to perusing through BOM layer names in my inventory and having no idea what they are. And when I'm shopping and trying things on, the Maitreya HUD is the quickest and easiest way to hide parts because the HUD is right there on my screen. I don't have to open up my inventory to add or detach anything. And I'm not just talking about hiding body parts but also hiding parts of my applier clothing. I use BOM for my skin to try balance out the performance side of things but appliers still seem more convenient for me.
  2. When people say something obnoxious and then later claim they were "just joking" when they clearly weren't. Just face it, we all know you're an a**hole now! Peeve!
  3. I would have assumed more detail = either larger textures or more polygons or both which then equates to more lag and resources to render/load? IMO Lelutka's appeal is the shape of their heads. Whenever a Lelutka head has grabbed my attention, it's their realistic human look that did it. I've always just used my Catwa Catya but their free Lilly head is what got me to even consider Lelutka because of its beautiful shape rather than any of their HD features. I suspect most people choose their heads based on shape and also skin availability. All the other features are just extras really. I love skin details like pores and freckles, even lip details but HD makeup is unnecessary IMO. Obviously people can use whatever they want, but I've read some people's comments here on the forum saying they only take out their Legacy bodies only on their own home for picture taking to spare other people of lag, which I really appreciate, like A LOT. I guess I feel the same about HD - that level of detail doesn't add much value for everyday use so if they do cause more lag then that's something worth considering. Of course that's just my opinion. I've been following the furnishing thread and it has educated me a bit more on triangles which I wasn't even aware of before. Most people don't talk or even think about triangles, but they do about lag. I wonder if they're aware of the relationship between the two.
  4. I know this pretty much comes down to personal choice but looking for some opinions on this. Since I joined sl, my main head has been Catwa Catya and it's the only one I have paid for. I like the shape and functionality, or maybe I've just gotten used to it. But I rarely see any new skins or makeup made for the older Catwa heads anymore - they're either made for other brands or the Catwa HDPro. I still buy things for my Catya head when they're on sale, like freckles, lip glosses, eyes etc. But I'm starting to think that I'm wasting lindens on an outdated head that I'm going to have to replace eventually. And I don't want to be in a position where I've got too much stuff supporting my old head that it's too painful to move on to a new one. What do you think? Is it a waste of money to keep dressing up an old product? (I'm not actually concerned about the head being old. I just get the feeling it has become irrelevant or redundant because of the new HDPro.)
  5. Have you tried Doe? Maybe even Olive.
  6. @Doc CarlingThere's no point debating whether or not those avs represent humans. You clearly don't think so and it's fine. It's a matter of perspective. For me, I have met people who are disfigured by birth or from a tragic accident and personally I wouldn't make such a blunt comment about appearance like that. That's just me. But even talking just about computer graphics, it's still kind of a mean thing to say. I wouldn't go up to someone and tell them their av looks rubbish. Even if they look nothing like that irl, it's still not nice. They might have worked hard on their av or it's their way of expressing themselves, their way of enjoying sl and someone just makes a judgemental comment like that. This is, after all, a thread to post "ugly" avatars, not to criticize or judge them. That's just my perspective though. You don't have to agree.
  7. Your initially comment came off differently but thanks for the clarification.
  8. There are people who could very much look like the avatar that has been slagged on. So when someone says "that avatar is a nightmare", if it's about a fictional being like some robot or goblin, then whatever. But it was directed towards an overweight woman avi, that could be insensitive. There are people sitting behind computers who may feel they actually do resemble that "nightmare". I'm sure the comment wasn't intentionally being mean, but it was mean nonetheless.
  9. It's ok to not like the look of an av. But you were wrong to speak for everyone else and assume we're all thinking what you're thinking, and that we're just not honest in saying it. No, we're not thinking the same thing. Different looking avs, especially the odd or ususual ones, bring a smile to my face. It makes me think someone has a sense of humor, is adventurous, inventive and interesting. It makes SL more fun and exciting to not be surrounded by only fashion models and to not just focus on making pretty avatars. Sure, making my av pretty is fun too, but to only have one aspect in a virtual world would be boring. As a human, I tend to attract guys who want to hook up. But I've made more fun friends when I'm suited up in something weird. That kind of thing does show you what people are after.
  10. @Lia2LaRue La Perla as well. Both Glitzz and La Perla are part of weekend sales sometimes. I saw them both in The Saturday Sale this week so you could go check them out.
  11. I've always lived on mainland and never had any problems. If my neighbours set up stuff I don't like, I just derender/blacklist. But not every viewer has that function so that sucks. In reality not everyone shares the same tastes so you're never going to like all your neighbours' things. And they're not going to like all of your things. There's no point trying to compromise or get them to adjust to your preferences. Just accept and ignore. That's how I do mainland. @Zanna Zadark I don't see why you didn't just derender whatever was blocking your view in the first place like you eventually did. There actually is no obligation to "respect" your neighbours, aside from the requirement to follow actual rules. It's no surprise that your support tickets have not amounted to anything because your neighbour has not actually broken any rules. Nothing wrong with asking your neighbours for favours the way you did. But they are favours and you shouldn't have any expectations that they'd accommodate you. Everything else that has happened afterwards is just a war that you have an equal part in. In my experience, the way to have peaceful neighbours is to be one.
  12. I can't tell you what happens behind the scenes since I don't know, but I can tell you from my experience that abuse reports do get looked at. I had someone stop pestering me after I AR'd them. I would suggest including as much evidence you can gather like chat logs if you have any. Or maybe next time he does this, record it using gyazo gif or something and include the link in your AR. Someone once told me if more people submit an AR, the better. I don't know how true that is but I guess it doesn't hurt to try.
  13. @AltynTagh Honestly it's not worth changing your complete sl over one person. That person will get over it and find something else to obsess over, just give it time. If you like your new av, then use her and ignore the stalker. Who cares if he knows when you're logged on. Unless he constantly shows up wherever you are, then it's not worth worrying about. Use the sl tools available to you - block/derender/abuse report.
  14. I'm not a scripter so forgive me if my thoughts on this are a little "brainless", but I'm of the opinion that if the creator is still selling a product that is still relying on account names rather than uuid, then that product is in itself outdated. I can understand not providing free updates to a retired product. Otherwise, the creator should probably update it to be compatible with current mechanisms. To continue to sell it without the capacity to work with name changes doesn't seem right, unless it is stated in their product description that there'll be a charge for every name change so that people are fully aware.
  15. When an updated list is sent for a weekly sale but there is no mention of what the update is and it's a verrry long list 😧
  16. Maybe I haven't been in sl long enough to know about all the drama. I guess I'm coming from the perspective of wanting more information. Before I buy from a new website irl or even visit a new restaurant, my default first step is to google them and check out reviews. To me that's just natural. By now I know all the main sl brands so I know who to trust, but as a newcomer there really isn't much to go by. There are some brands that are known for their shady practices that we mainly know of through word of mouth - something that doesn't reach everybody. I don't see how a review system would hurt here, aside from the challenge of making it legit and drama-free. Mp reviews - not everything is on mp, and reviews can be deleted by removing the listing. True, I can imagine something like this turning into a negative, toxic mess, but perhaps the naive and idealistic part of me is open to the idea.
  17. I personally find some wound marks give a bit of realism. Definitely not black eyes or cig burns. But irl, my skin's not airbrushed to perfection like sl skin. I give myself scratch marks and bruised knees all the time! To me at least, not all wounds represent abuse. That's also probably why the "realistic" look might mean different things to different people.
  18. I personally think this is a good thing. At a glance, it seems like an attempt to have a rating system on sl businesses, which is something we are lacking. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't but what we are currently (not) provided with is not sufficient so at least someone is trying.
  19. Do they pass by using "secondlife" instead of "second life"?
  20. @Bluntrollerrr I just saw a skin for Catwa HD Pro at Velour for the soKawaiiSundays sale. It's called Hyo. Not sure if that's what you like but the ad looks like it's on the realistic side. They also have a few group gift skins (free group join).
  21. Another one for breathing poses is Sinchi
  22. I do like the idea of sl being owned by people who actually care about sl.
  23. That is such a shame that stores can flag (legitimate) reviews. One more reason why the mp review system is so flawed.
