Linden Lab has wasted more than enough resources on dead end projects that are not Second Life.

Viewer Performance Improvements
Lyssa Greymoon replied to Alexa Linden's topic in Second Life Viewer
New version available in case anyone stopped trying it because of the texture mess. That seems fixed now. There's a Mac version too, but that's a mixed bag on the Macs I've tried it on. -

Running SL on old hardware (4G RAM upper limit)
Lyssa Greymoon replied to Profaitchikenz Haiku's topic in Second Life Viewer
I run SL on a ten year old PC. I've pimped it out with an SSD and 16GB of RAM though. 4GB DDR3 modules don't command much of a premium nowadays, so anything with more than one RAM slot should really have at least 8GB. In addition to the 512x512 texture limit, enable texture compression. That really cuts down on VRAM use. Like by half. For video cards, since prices on almost everything have gone insane, get what you can get I guess. There may still be some good values in OEM cards with no retail versions or Quadros. -

That’ll sell a bunch of $299 Occulus headsets. 🙄 -
I went earlier with that avatar and wandered around the whole place. Picked up some demo tights to check out. I just went back with a 14 year old account, payment info used, reasonably well put together mesh avatar and got booted almost immediately.

The one with the boxbot head was me, and I got booted about fifteen seconds after you did. I wonder if the merchants know how the owner operates this place.

Congratulations!

HiDPI off, and for water reflections select none, opaque. Mac displays are great and I don't think the performance hit from HiDPI is worth it.

OpenGL is a dead end, and SL is hamstrung by its reliance on obsolete technology. This isn't just a Mac thing, it's everyone using a reasonably modern computer.

Oh me me me me me me! I wanna go! I wanna go!

And then they either donate the old ones to schools or non-profits, or sell them to a recycler.

If anyone has unwanted five year old computers they want to dispose of, I'll help with that.

The Firestorm caches are located in ~/Library/Caches/Firestorm_x64 and clearing the cache using FS's preferences should empty that folder. Checking to make sure everything is gone might be a good idea. The other folder in your user library FS uses is ~/Library/Application Support/Firestorm that's where settings and log files live. The fact that clearing the cache didn't help and FS works in another account suggests a screwed up settings file in your user library.
