Its a good viewer, it’s just super technical which puts it out of reach for the average SL user. Not my daily driver, but it does unlock a lot of potential in SL.

I'd like to get the hang of using it, because there are obviously some very good tools in there. Every time I try it's like the viewer is trying to stop me. About three seconds in I realize the movement and view keymappings are all different. Even when they're remapped, they don't act the same. All the preference menus are completely different so it's harder to find anything than when Miss Sakamoto tidies up. After I get somewhere, a bunch of avatars that have no business being rendered as jellydolls are getting jellydolled and the avatar complexity slider doesn't seem to be doing anything. Is there another setting I need to set to fix this? Where is it? What the hell am I doing? I think I'm too stupid to use it.

It makes me sad in the face a lot of you put as pet peeves how peoples avatars look.... I mean do you go around in life like that to real people?? Oh your nose does not match your face, sorry it is to big.. You are unworthy of my time... ?

I gotta be honest, when I see a shirtless guy with a 24” prosthetic wiener sticking out of his pants in Wal-Mart, I start to get a little judgmentally

People think this L$40 name change is a rip-off? No... going to a damn movie is a rip-off. Bloody hell, that's nuts. It's probably been 10 years or so since I've been in a movie theater and I'm just gobsmacked by the prices. Why on earth do people pay that?!

$40 for a username change is going to a first run movie in a theater, display names are renting the disc at Redbox.

  4. Meh, everyone gets an opinion. Personally I think the fact that display names exist significantly reduces the desirability of a more restrictive username change. But if you have to have your display name match your username, totally worth it.

One other thing, "estimated value at US$39.99" doesn't necessarily mean that's what people will actually be paying when it's rolled out. We don't know what discounts LL will offer, and I think chances are pretty good it will end up getting some kind of discounts.

I guess I am confused. I thought you would also have low frame rates if you were lagged? Are frame rate and actually being able to do anything unrelated, or only loosely related?

That’s server side lag, and your graphics settings won’t really change that. You can get great frame rates, but on really crowded regions, the servers may not be able to keep up with everyone’s avatar, scripts and physics enabled objects. On the other hand, you’ve probably also been to graphically heavy places where you get a terrible frame rate, but can walk around without rubber banding.

  6. Some viewers that allow you to set texture memory >512MB will let you set it to use more memory than your video card actually has in some configurations. So before jamming it all the way up, make sure your card actually has enough memory to do it. If turning basic shaders off makes SL run faster, it’s time for a new video card. Turning basic shaders off will slow down a halfway decent GPU.

  7. If a griefer is crashing your computer, it’s probably crashing the video driver, not overheating anything. It’s extremely hard to overheat a CPU or GPU that’s properly installed and getting decent airflow. If it was a thermal issue from running too hard, you’d be crashing in SL all the time.

Tell us how it happened in Rome.

The health insurance and petroleum industries found out they could buy the legislators and vote themselves loads of doubloons or whatever Roman money was called, and convince people this was a really good idea because if they didn't the barbarians would come in with their socialism and all sign up for welfare, but the people wouldn't build a wall and the barbarians came to get on the dole and everyone died of bubonic AIDS.

I don't care for Breitbart, and so I'm not familiar with this pundit. Politics aside, I couldn't get through the whole clip due to Shapiro's nasally, whiney voice. Bleck. It is like someone doing a parody voice. (And, erm, he called Neil a leftist, working for a leftist corporation (the BBC) and he asked if he was an objective or opinion journalist.)

I did not mean for anyone to listen to the whole clip, it should have started at 5:50, and the relevant part is only about ten seconds long. I'm sorry if that much concentrated douchebag gave you brain cancer.

Oh, and you may want to watch the clip again.  He didn't call Neil a "leftist", he questioned whether he was an objective journalist or an opinion journalist.  And, he admitted he got "destroyed" because he wasn't prepared.  And he apologized.

    This clip?

Why?  Because he's a devout Jew who has been routinely called anti-Semitic?  Or because he's routinely criticized the "alt-Right" while himself being called a Nazi?  Because of his insistence on relying on facts over feelings?  Or because he shreds pretty much anyone who debates him, to the extent that even when he offers such giants of the liberal establishment as AOC $10K to debate a position they decline?

The biggest problem in the US right now is that both sides are so entrenched in their self-righteous belief in their own infallibility that they dismiss out of hand what the other has to say.  That's the worst kind of willful ignorance I know.

Because he's a fast talking con man whose debating skills extend as far as beating up unprepared college kids, and he uses those mad skillz to shill for very bad people.
