I have an original M1 MacBook Pro, I don’t think it gets hot enough to throttle anything, the only times I’ve noticed the fan coming on is when I’ve been exporting video in DaVinci Resolve. I haven’t run SL on an M2 yet.

Maybe it's helped the cards AMD is selling today, but those drivers did jack ***** for my old but still allegedly supported RX550.

Sometimes the viewers can do a sub-optimal job with the default graphics settings. Like enabling shadows on video cards that have no business trying to do that. Turning off shadows is the #1 way to improve performance. If you're running Firestorm (which I assume you are because everyone does) go to graphics settings and change water reflections to none (opaque). There's a bug that causes a significant hit to performance even if you're nowhere near any water. All viewers have an option to enable lossy texture compression. I find this helps, especially in crowded situations because running out of VRAM tanks your performance straight to zero, and this cuts SL's VRAM usage in half. More or less. If you have a computer that struggles with basic computer tasks, this may do more harm than good. Finally, if you aren't using the Linden viewer, download the latest one and give it a shot, they've introduced some excellent performance improvements.

Right now it's two people and three annoying objects. That's what I mostly use it for, people who are playing music over voice or a repeating gesture and objects that just won't STFU.
