Today for the first time ever I am STUCK with Japanese as default for my Account page. The dropdown refuses to work. I have no idea why it decided this and no amount of CHOOSING English from the dropdown will change it. Is there a new trick for fixing this?

You can HIDE groups from each groups profile without leaving them all too.

Groups have the hide from profile ability so you can keep them.
