  1. Welcome to the Forum OnoGrinds! Yeah, I've seen more cheaters too, but there are as many reasons to cheat as there are cheaters. I worry that some residents may be struggling in RL and use Linden Realms and Paleo Quest for a little (very little) pocket money. Desperate times lead to desperate measures. Because the payout is so low (L25), such folks would need to create a lot of alts and push them all through their game of choice to get anything but a tiny payout. That scenario could explain what looks like an increase in cheaters. They bug me too (HEY! THAT WAS *MY* GREEN CRYSTAL!) but I try to have some compassion for whatever they're going through in RL that would lead to those behaviors in SL. .
  2. Guys, if you're unhappy with the way things are going in SL then submit a question and attend. Being grumpy behind the scenes doesn't change anything.
  3. Aloha. Yeah, Linden Realms is simple fun but I've noticed the stuff you mentioned too. When LL cut the Linden Realms payout in half, then when they demanded PIOF, and then when they added signage discouraging cheating, it felt like a LOT of people stopped playing. The shift was amazing... a lot of the time I felt like I had Linden Realms to myself. But recently I've noticed cheaters coming back, for example folks using animations to jump higher, run faster, or fly. There are suddenly "gymnasts" and "roller skaters" in Linden Realms again. Ugghh. I hate reporting the cheaters (nobody likes to be a snitch) but there are so many of them these days that I feel forced into doing it. I don't know if LL is planning to phase out Linden Realms, but it's slipping to the point that probably only a handful of residents would miss Linden Realms if it were gone. Oh - and yeah, I've blocked that staring dude who set his home to Portal Park 1. A couple of my friends spoke to him when he first appeared, trying to say gently that it looks weird and sort of predatory to be staring at folks as they teleport in, but he doesn't care. I wondered if he was filming everyone as they arrived, but he's been there for months so I doubt he has a film project going - maybe he just enjoys making women uncomfortable. Block him.
  4. Agreed AnaM28. Whether in air or on the water, border crossings have slightly improved on the new servers, but it is still absolutely vital to slow down as much as possible when approaching a border. I'm also careful to never cross the point where the corners of four borders meet. And, as several have said, use as simple an avatar as possible and remove as many scripts / AOs as possible. Having said that, I have several yachts that are simply sooo huge that they inevitably sink or throw up a script error no matter what precautions I take. These are ones I'll rez on a public boat ramp, take over no more than one border, and moor in open water. Nothing's worse than cruising with friends only to have the boat disappear and everyone fall to the ocean floor. Ugghh.
  5. Zuck now owns a huge piece of Kauai and has sued his neighbors in order to push his way around. I do my best not to hold ill will against anybody, but Zuck is one of those people for which I would build a time machine in order to travel back and prevent his birth.
  6. BTW, another shop with awesome Asian (mainly Japanese) buildings and interiors is Taikou.
  7. I'm of Asian descent, as are several of my inworld friends. We've been holding our breath in SL but happily none of us have received AAPI hate. Having said that, just like in RL we stay away from places where Asians are fetishized, spots with any sort of right-wing political signage, and even most places with flags (potentially nationalistic). Erring on the side of caution is safest. Knowing that POC are all in this together, a few of us did several BLM protests by holding BLM signs and taking a knee. We stood on the sidelines quietly, out of everyone's ways, just wearing BLM shirts and masks and holding signs. It was disappointing to have numerous avatars abuse us verbally and push us around. All were reported and blocked. On the bright side, several people asked for signs, shirts, masks, and the kneel pose, and joined us. Taikou have a nice "Asian Solidarity With Black Lives Matter" banner as a freebie in store. We put one of the back (ocean-facing side) of my old LH houseboat, and I was later surprised to find the banner missing, along with some of the other Japanese stuff we keep inside the houseboat. Luckily none were gatchas or no-copies so we just put everything back in place, but it was disturbing to think that somebody de-rezzed that stuff. I'm hoping that this was just a temporary error rather than a stalker.
  8. I'm currently living in a "Vanilla" by 1nnovation and have several home from inVerse and Trompe Loeil. If you like "Asian" themed places there's a lot to choose from at JPK, Su-Shi City, Tsunami, but IMHO the best are in Marketplace at Namuri. Rebourne have some pretty places. There are also places like Headhunter's Island and Bahia Tiki for folks who enjoy "tropical" themes.
  9. Both! I love to clean off in a hot shower, then fill the tub with warm water and bath salts. I usually bring a good book and glass of wine, then ignore them both and just close my eyes. Ahhhhh....
  10. I'm rarely on the SL web site, so its home page doesn't bother me too much. BUT the new home page requires a Google cookie to load, and THAT pisses me off no end.
  11. Wow thedarkhand, I feel you. Neighbors putting up ugly, and frankly disrespectful *****, is a big reason why I rent rather than own mainland. I love to explore the SL land auctions, and check out a lot of places... but they inevitably have neighbors with huge walls, military installations, billboards or advertising signs, shops, neon property / ban lines, or skyboxes floating 50 feet off the ground. Covenants when you rent may seem like a PITA, but they prevent all that. Ahhh. I rent a quarter island sim, and it's sooo nice to know that it will always look like an island sim. The L$1 per LI is a great price! I've moved several times in order to find spots with a better L$ to LI ratio, because I love to landscape with palm trees, plumeria, bamboo, banyons, and monkeypods. It's easy to run out of LI 🙂 Here's what we put together to keep things under 1245 LI. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Mokolea Cove/110/67/22
  12. I've never owned a car, though I've shared and driven them. The only vehicle I've ever owned outright was a motorcycle. Loved it, but am emissions-free these days... all by foot or pedal power. 🙂
  13. A LOT of places seem even more empty than usual. I suspect that a full year of being told that contact with others is potentially deadly has a lot of us staying in our SL homes, just like we do in our RL homes. To be honest, a lot of the ways I used to have fun seem kinda stupid and frivolous now, so I'll probably be visiting fewer busy places. Who knows, when our worlds finally re-open safely maybe we'll all return to our old SL dance party routines.
  14. As for maximizing the Firestorm window without covering file menu or dock, just press your Mac's control key while pressing the green dot in the top left of the Firestorm window. The window will then maximize the window without covering top and bottom of your screen. This is super handy for me, because scrolling to the top of maximized windows the Mac file menu would drop down and hide the window's menus. Same when scrolling to the bottom of a window - that would always pull up the doc. Ugghh! Glad the control key + the green dot maximizes windows in a "safer" way 🙂 As for the M1 chip, that shouldn't make any difference. In fact, it may help speed things up! The problem as I see it is Apple's potential to use their Metal engine exclusively - thereby preventing anything made with OpenGL to render. That would be catastrophic inworld, and would hamper creators using tools like Blender. If that happens I'll be forced to pull out my old Linux laptop and say aloha to the Mac.
  15. This reminds me of being at university and doing web searches for terms like management, import export, tariffs, commerce law, etc., and inevitably the search results included porn sites. Ugghh. Websites - and SLMP stores - can add any keywords they like, and that inevitably screws up searches. I agree with the OP - searches on SLMP are a huge PITA. Now I try to buy from inworld stores, so that talented creators don't lose a percentage of their sale, and so that the purchase doesn't support a virtually unregulated SLMP. Having said that, I understand that LL doesn't have the FTE bandwidth to police SLMP any more than they can police Linden Realms for violators.
  16. Just saw a great response from Wulfie Reanimator on a different thread:
  17. I guess the new accounts are the ones most likely to be playing Linden Realms, and just generally trying to figure SL out :-) You really have to enjoy the game, because Linden Realms is a terrible waste if you you go there strictly for the payout. That L25 weekly reward works out to roughly $0.25 USD. The game takes about a half hour to complete, so anyone going to Linden Realms for the payout is making about fifty cents an hour. Yikes. Shame to think that $1 per hour seemed like so much more, but it was a lot more in SL Marketplace buying power. Bots, speed/fly enhancer HUDs, and other exploits can reduce the amount of time spent completing the game, but can't do anything about the payout being L25 once per week. Maybe they get more crystals too, who knows. Hey LocalKine, thanks for testing the crystal payout. Nice to know that hasn't changed... yet. But I'm tempted to cash in my "crystal savings" now (before the redemption value likely changes) and not bother with Linden Realms anymore. Rowan, thanks for the look at that previous discussion. That one resident mentioned needing a passport; that requirement may be specific to that country. Requiring payment info on file may make things really difficult for people not just in certain life situations, but also in other countries too. Hey Chic, that's a cool look at the past. Linden Realms wasn't a part of SL when I was first here a long time ago (I came back to SL about two years ago).
  18. Thanks Qie and Sylvia! That really helps me budget appropriately. 🙂 Yeah Qui, homestead. I'm at the west-facing quarter of Moon Glow now.
  19. Thanks Rowan, that looks like fun!
  20. Aloha all, I have a quick Prims vs Land Impact question. Researching it takes me down a rabbit hole of decade-old Forum posts. I'm considering buying a mainland parcel. Before I do so, I'd like to figure out what my costs will be. I currently rent a quarter sim for L$9728 per month. Given today's exchange rate, I'm paying $41.86 USD per month to rent. The Mainland Pricing and Fees page indicates a monthly charge of $67 USD for a 1/4 sim, which makes buying mainland look like a bad deal. Hmmm. But then I noticed that it allows 5625 Prims Per Parcel. In our mostly mesh world the line between Prims and Land Impact is super blurry, but I would love to have a parcel with 5625 LI! Heck, even a 1/8 mainland sim allows 2812 Prims, which would be much more than my current cap of 1250 LI. Buttttt... only if Prims equate to Land Impact, which they likely don't since the invention of mesh. SO: how do I know what the LI cap will be on mainland parcels? Is there some sort of equation that can be used to figure this out? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
  21. For anyone Mac curious, don't bother. Mac has a rubbish reputation for gaming, but it's a great machine for most other stuff. I use Mac, Windows, and Linux distros on various machines and have been disappointed with the latest Mac. I replaced my old Mac with a new one several months ago and am not happy with the performance, in SL and in other ways. It's a 27" iMac with an SSD and upgraded to 64 GB memory. Should be blazing, right? Meh. I'm guessing that my problem is the combination of "3.7 GHZ 6-core Intel Core i5" processor and "Radeon Pro 580X 8 GB" graphics card... definitely not gaming material. Maybe the new Mac chipset (that replaced the Intel ones) will help, but for anyone looking for a machine specifically for SL or gaming, don't bother with Mac. From my experience several Linux distros have been the fastest OSs (Mint's GUI is similar to Windows so will look familiar to most people), and though LL don't support a Linux version of SL viewer anymore there are Firestorm and others that work well.
  22. Hey Merpunk, that's a great point. Changing up to a mesh avatar was a terrifying, frustrating, and ultimately expensive process. And now BOM is the latest reason to be terrified, frustrated, and broke 🙂 It all makes system avatars look much friendlier. BTW, there was a post in here recently about the most popular bodies and heads, and those will likely have the best support options. Good luck!
  23. Hey Chic. I made an alt recently and found the same as you: onboarding was pretty easy. Yeah, I hear you about the default avatars... uggh. Maybe they reflect the demographic of most new users these days: women who lived large in the 1980s, and guys who lived large in the 1970s. Thankfully there is the Avatar > Choose An Avatar option, which opens up 30-40 avatars to choose from. "Back in the day" I used to choose a half dozen avatars, save each as an Outfit, then mix and match bodies, clothes, and hair to make something unique and totally free.
