    It’s hard to believe that Second Life’s 19th birthday is around the corner. Over the years, I have continued to enjoy discovering new and interesting places to explore across the grid. However, I also appreciate looking back at some of the OG destinations that have left a lasting impression. Their longevity is a testament to the value of creation in SL, and you should absolutely check them out!
    Using the Second Life Origins category on the Destination Guide, revisit some of the earliest and historically significant locations and landmarks in Second Life. Here are just some of my favorites.
    SS Galaxy
    Established in 2007, SS Galaxy, also known as the Queen of the Sagittarian Sea, is an enormous, full-featured cruise ship that spans three regions and offers an array of activities, just like a real world cruise!

    The Man
    "The Man" statue is one of the only surviving objects from the original "Linden Town" area that was developed in Second Life during the earliest Alpha stage of its development. At times, The Man has served as a shrine where miscellaneous offerings were left, and a celebration of the creativity SL was founded upon.

    Climbable Beanstalk
    One of the oldest objects in SL is a beanstalk, created by Steller Sunshine in 2003. An influential model of organic shapes in a whimsical style, Steller used to hold contests challenging Residents to jump from leaf to leaf — can you make it to the top?

    Da Boom
    Visit Da Boom, the very first region in Second Life, founded in 2002. It's named after the real-life "De Boom" street in San Francisco, and Residents have speculated it's also a reference to the "Big Bang" of our virtual world's conception.

    Climb on top of a giant wasp and take a guided tour of this tropical island, which first opened in 2006. Explore the library inside the central tower, relax near the spring fountain, or start an impromptu jam session with some peculiar elven instruments inside the playhouse.

    Last month we made a few updates to the Destinations Floater in the viewer. In an effort to make it more newcomer friendly, we’ve made a few updates to our policy which pertains specifically to those listings that are chosen for Editors’ Picks and the Floater in the viewer. You can see all of the updates on the “About the Second Life Destination Guide” page.
    If you find any listings in the Destinations floater that are not newcomer friendly, please do drop us a line at editor@lindenlab.com and let us know. We are trying our best to check it every few weeks. We also encourage those that do get chosen to be featured in Editors’ Picks or the floater to please let us know, via email, if they decide to change their region's settings. 
    Do keep in mind that the only category we are not able to maintain, change or update is the “What’s Hot Now” category. That category is automatic and randomly showcases any of the entries on the Destination Guide that currently have 20 to 30 avatars in it. 
    The rest of the categories in the floater, and Editors’ Picks, are the only two places we are trying to maintain a stricter policy, so please do visit the web version of the Destination Guide as there are many more beautiful regions to explore. This week we added over 60, check them all out in the Recently Added category, which is rotated weekly with all the latest listings.

    This will be the final Destination Guide highlights post for this year. I hope to continue them in the new year, with weekly updates on what's new on the Second Life Destination Guide. In the year 2022, we hope to give the Destination Guide a much-needed facelift and possibly a few other changes, which I am really looking forward to! 
    So far this December we've shared many different winter-themed destinations in videos and blog posts. In this final blog post, I am going to share a few more of my favorites that I don't believe have been featured as of yet.
