  1. Thank you Natales. I have noticed an improvement, but TP is actually the tool to NOT get disconnected for me. Well anyhow bot TPs as my problem of getting disconnected while on ethernet  is better now, alas not totally good, but sometimes I can stay in SL for 20-30 minutes, if not more. I am very happy for that. If it is an SL, a Firestorm, a Windows or a Netgear-update that made it better, i have no clue of - I  really whish I had.
About deals with the stores, it might be an idea to try but we dont always have the same routines in Sweden as you have over there. :) But its  a good idea, thankies!

  2. Thank you Rolig. Maybe I should but it is a huge cost for me. I want to be assured the error is not returning if I change. And my Netgear does work excellent in all other applications I run. And I think they will - or have - fixed porblems like those you mension by now.

  3. OK update: Router and windows have updates, and some of them seems to have made SL last longer before it disconnects me. Another thing pointing at the router is that I have finally borrowed another router - alas only reaching half the speed I have on my internet - and it seems to work without logging me out. I have a Netgear R6220. Does anyone have an idea of any setting in the router that coudl affect this problem?

And Linda Kidd I misunderstood you a bit. I was talking about resetting my router. THe WDM is not my best thing, I do not really know what to look for there.

  4. Thank you Linda. I have gone through it several times and reset it completely at least two times during this problem and nothing have helped. If i knew more speciofically what I should look for, But what confuses me is that it is only problem with SL, and, as I said, if i notice that my avi freeze, which is the start of the logout, I then TP, and I can move again and can use SL normally for a few minutes until it freezes again. I cant understand how this can be the problem.  Nalates Urriah have hinted that it can be the TP problem of SL but It is not the same, I think.

  5. I have to sadly say that my problem of being logged out from SL when on Ethernet but not on Wifi persist after several months. It is soo frustrating, since my router does not show any errors for anyting else. And I still can "save" from being logged out by making a TP when I notice I freeze from movement. Sorry to repeat this, but maybe someone new reads it or someone alreadey in this thread, got some new ideas.

That you can TP and prolong your connection time is very much what others started experiencing with the server updates made 2 or 3 months ago. The Beta Server UG has been discussing the problem for a couple of months. The hope is the latest updates would solve the problem. I missed the last meeting. So, I didn't hear if Rex, the person experiencing the problem, saw it stop or persist. As best we can tell his problem is server side. So, a new router would not help.

Thank you Nalates. I cant decide if it was a good or bad answer, but it did clear things out. I will stick wiht my problems and not hurry to get a new router. Good to know and thanks again.

Your in your fourth month now... change something.

Sigh yes - I know I probably shold get a new router. I cant come up with anyting else to change. But with a very limited budget, I am scared for the possibility that the router is not the problem. And when it does not shows any problem in any other application, it is making me confused.

I had obviously not understood Whirlys answer, but thank you for explaining once more. It always helps to understand what is happening. But as I said before here, I CAN use a TP to reset SL again, alas for a few minutes only, obviously meaning I retain connection to SL. Can this be within my router only? Dosent it need some action from SL?

  8. Problems is persisting. I tried today to first log into SL and then connect the ethernet cable from the router. I immediately got stuck from walking, I can still rotate around, but not walk and after a minute or two I get logged out from SL.

I have still not got a new router, cause I am not 100% convinced it is caused by the router. It seems likely, but I would like to know for sure. There are no othere problems when the cable iss conencted, as far as I have seen. That is weired to me.

  9. Tapkoinu, interesting.

Tell me how your internet is set up. Is the problem similar to mine? It is appering when on ethernet on router - NOT when on wifi on the same router. If I disconnect the router and run SL directly from internet, it is at least a bit more persistant, I have been logged out there also, but not been able to verify if it is caused by the same reason.

  10. Thank you Nalates

When on ethernet from my router I cannot stay online more than one-two minutes before getting logged out. - unless I do not TP, as i talked about earlier.

About> help shows me at .agni.lindenlab.com (if this is what i was  to look for) - and i seem to get logged from everywhere.

But it sure sounds similar. I still wait for the ISP to fix a struggeling network, hten I will consider getting a new router. I am only baffeled that the TP saves me from crashing. At the moment, I give it 75% chance it is the router - too vague to just go buy another.

I will try to keep looking at that thread you sent me, though. It is insteresting.

Thank you Again Nalates! I appreciate all help.

  11. I have still not solved it, Been stuggeling with a very unwilling ISP support for long time. For myself I have tested and tested. I still have an extremely low upload speed for HTTP, but not for Websocket. And since i understand Second Life (and some other applications) does use HTTP, I need to get this fixed first before I can go buy a new router. Problem is that upload is the same low wheter the router is connected or not.
And i need to say that I have used the word "crash" incorrect. I am getting logged out from SL. I am very sorry, But i get the logged out message. I think the low upload does things to SL so it cannot sync wiht the high download in some way.  (But im only guessing....)
I will make more efforts to clear this low upload speed out as soon as possible.

If your router is just recently out of warranty, keep yelling at them. They may give in and give you a router or sell you one at discount.

    *Sigh* - I did try....

  13. Thank you Nalates

I have a very bad Karma now. I have been in touch with so many support caused by different problems that I cant remeber it all, but basically I have been in touch wiht ISP and they have checked - nothing wrong. LL has closed the issue, I got no reply. Netgear told me i was one month too late, or they could have exchanged my router (you see what I mean....).

I think - like most here - that it is my router. But I am very confused since I can avoid being logged out (see for the first time I did not write "crash") by making a TP. I cannot afford buy a new router by chance. And i have no other router to try either. So I guess I have to deal with it for some more time.

Have you run a tracert using the WiFi connection?

Sorry forgot: The answer is Yes I have. Same result. I have discussed earlier in this thread that pointing to other addresses than that is jumping all the way to target and does not stop at level 4. Here is result for Tracert

     1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  www.routerlogin.com []
      2    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms
      3     2 ms     2 ms     2 ms
      4    16 ms    16 ms    16 ms
      5    14 ms    15 ms    14 ms
      6    16 ms    16 ms    16 ms
      7    16 ms    15 ms    33 ms  sesto1024-rc2.ip-only.net []
      8    18 ms    18 ms    18 ms  lag-150.ear2.Stockholm2.Level3.net []
      9   187 ms   223 ms   187 ms  ae55.bar2.SanDiego1.Level3.net []

This is measured via my problematic Ehternet, not wifi.

If WiFI and a mobile provided hotspot work, I would suspect a cable or router socket as a problem. Try a new cable.

I get the same results with both my PC and laptop with different cables connected to different ports on the router.

If you are using a phone to create a hot spot (access point) it may be using the TelCo's network.

The hotspot is the same Netgear router that transmits the problematic ethernet. And I am in Sweden so I do not use TelCo.  And I get internet via an optical fibre. At home I never use phone as hotspot.

HTTP vs Websockets is getting pretty deep in the weeds. SL runs on HTTP. So, I don't see where sockets-IO is going to help.

It is my HTTP readings at upload that are extremely low. Websockets gives good results. Are you sure there cannot be any problem there?

  16. I found out that I can check bandwidth in different ways. And I get VERY different readings on the upload. (Now I do not have a clue of what this means but..) On the uploads I get around 3 Mbit/s when testing on the HTTP variant, while I have 113 on the Websockets variant. Downloads are over 100 on both.

Can someone please help me understand.

    1) Is this something that can produce the crashes in SL? (But both ethernet and wifi shows similar results)

    2) What is causing this difference? Can I do or check something on my router? (I have recently reset it fully)

I cannot stay online more than 5 minits on a place where there is 5 avatars or more.

Thank you Briana. Do you, just like me, notice in advance when SL starting to crash for you? If so, have you tried to TP to another place before the crash? My problem is only when on ethernet cable - not when on my home wifi network,

  18. 3 hours ago, Rolig Loon said:

If your connection is unstable, it can be losing enough packets of information to garble the data and force a disconnection.

Well I crash out from SL if I do NOT TP away. So the TP is making Firestorm to avoid a crash. If I do not TP, then I will crash. By making the TP I can stay in SL until it crash next time. But thats not a way to go, I cannot TP every teo-three minutes, lol.

I have also now totally reset the router to factory settings once more and found that it did not help.

  19. Ohh I dont understand these quote-functions. I think I messed up something for you Rolig...

But thank you Linda and Rolig for replys. I should have been thinking of using the cable directly. I have been doing that two years ago when the router was new and there where problem wiht the ISP.  But now I did and I have used SLfor at least 15 minutes now without being thrown out. I cant let the router be down much more, we have several items in house depending on it, but I think I have enough to call the ISP and ask for another router (it is the ISP property)  No I will reset the router totally once more first, otherwise I will be ordered to do that.

Another question just out of curiosity. When running TRACERT on (mygod is it the US DoD I've been pinging???) I always got four jumps before timeout. Now, without the router, I get three. That feels quite understandable. But when using TRACERT on some other address, like one of the Atlanta addresses in Nalatie's TRACERT above, I come all the way to the goal. What is the difference?

But for now SL feels very stable and I am very happy. Hopefully all you guys in here have helped me to pinpoint the error. I am soo thankful for all helpful people.

Now what about the bug reports to Firestorm and SL? Shoudl I remove them directly or what to do? My question how I could save from crashing by making a TP, still remains. I have problems to see how that can be fixed by the router.

  20. Thank you Nalates!

I will call my ISP up as soon as I can.

The 65. etc address is the ISP servers. Obviously their firewalls works well :)

I still cant get out of this 65. area, when running TRACERT, so I guess they have a firewall in that direction also.

Still I CAN run SL over wifi at both my home router and via mobile hotspot. So that indicates a problem with the router, dosen't it?

On the other hand I can prevent SL crashes by simply make a TP when I notice it is coming. This confuses me.

By weekend I will reset my router again, if I find time. Turning all stones......

  21. Short update: Problem persists. ISP have answered that it is "too complicated" to describe the  ICMP path over mail. I dont need a description! But I feel they do not see anything wrong so far. Their queues at the phone support are very long, and I have not mucht time free at home with kids and home cores. I will let a friend make a test to play some other games on his laptop via my ethernet connection, and see if there are any problems.

So, I would put all the info you sent to your ISP and a pointer to this thread into an SL trouble ticket.

Thank you Nalates - I did.

You didn't Google reading TRACERT. Those repetitive "*" hops you didn't show would tell us more. So, I am guessing about how likely this is the problem. It would help to include the full route trace.

    Thank you Natales!

I know enough about computers to manage my own and some company stuff when needed, but networking is not a part of that. And I do not understand very much of what you are trying to tell me. But I notice you wanted to see the whole TRACERT result. I tried to tell that it all was similar to the two last hops but here it is:

And all TRACERT I have run is pretty much identical. Might differ one or two milliseconds, but it never comes further than to jump 4. I have asked my ISP about this. Will hopfully get resppond in a few days.

Do you have an alt account?

Can you reproduce the same problem on the alt?
If you don't have an alt, you can make one for testing at https://join.secondlife.com/
If you have the same problem with a new account then it's nothing to do with inventory.

I have tried an alt account wiht the same result, so thank you Whirly for that info.

Now, I have found out that my PC actually have a wifi card, I was not aware of, but it was not working. I installed driverrs for it and made it work . So therefore I could pull the cable and find out that SL is not crashing anymore. And  I am getting 114/111 Mb/s even wiht wifi so thats what I need to my RL photo backups that can be really huge.

So I do have a cable problem but not wifi problem on the same router. That is obviously pointing the error to the router.

On the other hand, the fact that I can save from crashing out by making TPs in SL, is telling me it might be an SL problem anyhow. What I cannot do, I have discovered after multiple failed attempts, is TP back to the place where the crash initiated, until a crash have started on the new place I TPed to. If I try to TP back sooner, it will lock me in TP and kicking me out from SL.

Oh and here are the packets summary from the log I sent to Firestorm support after a crash:

    SendPacket failures:                          0
    Dropped packets:                              1
    Resent packets:                             435
    Failed reliable resends:                     13
    Off-circuit rejected packets:                 0
    On-circuit invalid packets:                   0

    I cannot interpret that.

And thank you guys for giving me your time, I appreciate that a lot.
