any more you can put together a pretty good Avi for free. Think Genus still has the free head Legacy has their free body ( clothing for it is a bit trixy ) all sorts of group gift skins out there as well as hair so you don't have to spend a ton really these days. But.. if you like to shop, then it may be worth it to spend a little and get a fully supported head and body

think thy have one that is 1/4 sim size but its not to bad
