    Preface - What is this?

    Every 2 months, Gensokyo has a sim-wide 'story event'/hunt! These are just to spice things up and offer a brief change of scenery and something to do.

    These are just for fun and participation is entirely optional!

    Do note the quest/hunt portion requires you have Gensoyko's HUD attached now - you can attach it by clicking the signs at the landing, Hakurei shrine, or RP center. This is for tracking your hunt progress and receiving the reward! It's kind of just There for now but I plan to really get into dialogue trees later when I have more time.

    With that aside...

    The story so far...

    It's August! The Summer is almost at its end, and the humans of Gensokyo are celebrating - even youkai have gotten into the spirit! Decorations are popping up all around as denizens prepare for the Summer's last stand.

    While walking in the human village, you notice a strange flier... it advertises itself as a quick job opening, and urgent, being related to the festival. Is something wrong? You take note of the meeting location listed - behind the ramen shop in the Human Village.
    Maybe you should see what's up?

    What's new?

    • A small story hunt has been added! There should be a familiar face in the meeting place mentioned. This is a bit of a 'test run' of the new system, so again, dialog trees aren't super fancy yet.
    • New ground-level windlight! Does it feel more summery? Hopefully it does.
    • Small, festive cosmetic changes can be found around sim.
    • Event-wise, instead of black silhouette cutouts, there's actual animesh characters now!

    OOC note

    This event is very silly, but I had fun learning to put it together!
    This time I actually do have more a more 'eventy' event planned, just later in the month. I'll post any updates here!

  2. as a self proclaimed 'SL loner', i always really love finding RPG elements and 'quests' on sims that can be experienced solo. and after learning to code my own quests for my own place, i've come to have a newfound appreciation for the kind of work that goes into these kinds of experiences.

    im talking running around, talkings to NPCs, exploring, maybe a nicely crafted cave? stuff that turns sl into a 'game', even if just for a little while

    they don't even have to be fancy or have a hard storyline, something as simple as someone leaving their poetry out in notecards for you to find and piece things together is enough. i just like to discover things!

    so please, let's talk about em! though the premise of this thread is mainly experiences that can be done solo, i don't mind mentions of rp sims with fancy gamey huds (that can also be played with while on your lonesome)

    I would probably look at Reid Parkin's place. There is a lot variety there, reasonably priced and generally low prim. I like to see stuff like that inworld because of LOD's and texture detail.

    went and spent a bunch on plants :'D but i got what i needed there and was able to save like 200 prims my just redoing the front courtyard alone!! tysm for the recc!

  4. exactly what it says, i'm looking for plants befitting of a mansion courtyard that are low land impact. i have a really nice set currently, but because of how it's constructed (they literally linked 25+ individual plants together), each piece comes out to be around 30+ LI. this is on a homestead, and im... kind of running out of space and could probably save if i replaced these

    im good at searching for clothes, not decor/plants, anyone got reccs?

  5. not a fancy pic because i've been swept up in coding and modeling but i took time to make something for myself amidst all my other work - that is, i remembered i had this fullperm template i never used and promptly created the worst thing i ever made

    once again head is asr aeon! except i remade her skin slightly

  6. recently i visited the dive shop, i don't have a slurl on me but it's currently featured in the destination guide and should be easy enough to find... i easily spent a good 20-30 minutes just swimming around there, it's mostly water and is probably the most impressive underwater environment i've ever seen in sl

    more general, i also really like walking around family rp communities (especially the super big multi-sim ones like fox hollow and cedar creek), particularly as a feral cat avatar playing the role of a stray cat. though these places are often very intensive on computers (at least on my old laptop), theyre usually really pretty and i get some funny interactions when im a stray cat there (i get to meow at people)

    and i mean....... if self promo (if it even counts as self promo because im not logged into sl so i cant copy the slurl) isn't outlawed i do genuinely enjoy re-exploring my own sim, considering i created it specifically to be a big ol place i could explore in. especially since i learned more advanced meshing and have been creating my own stuff more, i can kinda make the place i want to make. no place like home, i suppose

  7. Hey, so I'm a bit confused on whole whole copyright infringement thing when it comes to submitting destination guide suggestions.

    It's there in a bold red warning box;

    Warning: Do not suggest content that is copyrighted or otherwise subject to another party's proprietary rights (including privacy, publicity, trademark, and trade secret rights) unless you own the rights or have the owner's permission. Content determined to infringe upon intellectual property rights is removed from our website and services.

    Though when looking through some destination guide locations, some seem based off/inspired by copyrighted materials (some more heavily than others).

    So, my question is - is it alright to submit a location based off/inspired by a copyrighted* franchise (like a video game, book, or movie series), and where is the line drawn? Is the line drawn at using ripped/official assets from said media, or is it a quite literal 'don't have a copy of this copyrighted movie playing 24/7 or whatever'?

    *I put this asterisk here because the location in mind is based off a media where the author is independent and has a very flexible copyright stance; i.e. creating works using the characters, world, and name is allowed freely without individual permission by the author as long as it's not on a massively commercial scale. Obviously though, this isn't the case for everything.

  8. not me not being able to post this earlier because of 100+f weather and a broken ac unit 😳

    So... what is this?

    Starting from now, GensoSL will hold bi-monthly background events that change the look of the sim, provide new RP opportunties, and offer a silly little 'hunt' that I put together. It's something to spice up the sim, and participation is optional!

    GensoSL is an anime-centric casual rp/hangout/exploration sim, though avatars of all shapes and sizes are welcomed! Just keep in mind we're MODERATE rated.

    ======

    🌧️The story so far...🌧️

    And so spring comes to an end, and the heat of summer begins... or, does it?

    While many of Gensokyo's residents were preparing for the hot sun, it would seem it's been rather rainy lately. Too rainy, in fact. Humans and youkai alike have complained of flooding and thunderstorms, and it doesn't seem to be letting up.

    It only took so long until an official call to action was given, officially identifying the current events as 'the rainy season incident'. Now, in addition to the rain, there's an air of hostility between the denizens of Gensokyo and anyone they deem 'suspicious'. Youkai with an affinity for water have been blamed, though one true culprit has yet to be found.

    Whoever they are, they must have a reason... right? Maybe it's time to do some investigating.

    ======

    What's happening

    The appearance of the sim has changed! There's now rain covering most open non-forest areas and the occasional mud puddle here and there. There's also a new stormy day cycle when using the region's environment.

    Right at the landing and outside the RP center, there's an info board that gives a notecard that's mostly just the information here. But it also includes some (admittedly cheesy) prompts for roleplay.

    There's a short and sweet little hunt around the sim, with the 'first' lead being at the RP center - though there's no rigid order, just an intended one. It requires some background knowledge of the series the sim is inspired by, but honestly if you explore enough I promise you'll find the 'culprit'; I put it pretty out in the open. The primary prize is maitreya only, along with some other misc goodies.

    ======

    Currently, no proper 'eventy' events are planned, but I'll use this thread to announce them if I plan anything!

  9. it's me again! this mansion has been the bane of my existence because i'm lost on how to fully decorate it so i'm just asking someone else to help

    rooms i'd need are:

    -an office
    -a music room
    -knife enthusiast maid's room
    -tea room
    -prettying up the dining hall
    -prettying up the main halls if possible?

    rooms are small/mid sized, nothing too wild

    each room has one or two key items placed inside already, and the general theme of the building is victorian/rococo! the sim is also a homestead so try and be mindful of prim count? its no biggie tho

    if you're interested, shoot me an IM (or notecard if i'm offline, my online status is shown in firestorm) with your rates and possible LMs/photo links to past work : D
