    You're welcome!

I also like the Atenea body and use it for my female alts. I mean, L$250 for a Maitreya Lara-compatible mesh body is a real bargain!

I can't remember when I finally figured out that Atenea's hands also work with Maitreya Lara-rigged rings and (most, but not all) fingernails, but I was very impressed! The latest version has a special button now for Maitreya Lara-rigged high-heeled shoes, too (it has Slink-compatible feet otherwise, so boots and strappy shoes might be a problem with this body).

I was thinking of adding the Ruth bodies (e.g. Sweet's, which I also like) to my spreadsheet somewhow, but I don't know much about mesh clothing specifically for them, and how well Maitreya apparel fits it. I haven't really tested them out very much, so I am curious to learn more from others' opinions about the Sweet's and other, similar Ruth 2.0 bodies.

I helped a noobie out by getting her into Sweet's Ruth 2.0 or whatever it is called recently. It seemed mostly compatible but we did quickly encounter the need to learn how to use alpha cuts. Seemed like upper body fit was the issue, it's close but from what I saw you'll need to alpha out areas.

You can also find clothing for Ruth 2.0 (version RC 3 or just v.3) by searching the marketplace for RuthToo, (my version of Ruth 2.0). I'll be releasing some additional clothes for RuthToo and RothToo in the next few months, which will also fit Ruth 2.0.

I also have a free FP pack of various alpha masks in my shop in Blumfield to be used for the BoM version. And if you find some free clothes that could really use an alpha mask, let me know and I'll create some and add them to the free FP pack.

I may also expand to Senra outfits if they approve my request for the SDK.

    different mesh layers

You could use these as they are, but you would have different objects that can be colored separately rather than different faces of one object.

If you join them after importing them, you could use "Edit linked" to color the different parts OR click on each part to select the the face to color. The arrows to run through each face of an object only work when the one object has multiple faces and doesn't work through different objects that are linked.

If you are using LSL to color faces, you would have to treat them as different objects rather than different faces.

So, what you want is a Commercial Shop region, perhaps part of a group of such regions, where you could buy a small commercial space?  I don't see that that would need to be part of Belli, right?  Sort of a permanent Shop and Hop, maybe?

Yes. It can be it's own separate region(s) similar to Belli but with commerce allowed. I'm not expecting residents to happen upon my shop because they were walking around their neighborhood. I just want a Linden Commercial Shop region for the same reason that others want a Linden Home region. I want a regulated environment that prevents a ten story tall building or worse from being built next door to my small shop.

Having a small shop is would be what I prefer to do with my 'home' in SL, in an area that is all shops instead of homes.  Patch Linden's idea of a commercial variant of the Victorian homes would be a great way to try it out, (separate from the Belli continent, of course).

What would really be awesome though... is to have a "Linden commercial Shop" Region.

    I agree 100%!!

If LL created a Linden Commercial Shop region, I would move almost immediately from my Blumfield shop location to the new Linden commercial shop region. I doubt it would compete with the land in Blumfield which usually sells for way overpriced, and there are almost no shops there, mostly just rentals. And I would never use a rented space as my primary shop; it goes away too often as I learned the hard way.

I would prefer to have 1024m for extra decorations. I don't need the space for a lot of items for sale. I have mostly just a few freebie RuthToo/RothToo items.

FYI, there is some LL commercial space, but it is very small and has some very old stuff in it. I didn't see any way to apply to use that space either.

  5. To assign a specific area of your model to a material in Blender:

    1. Select that area of the object in edit mode.
    2. In the "Material Properties" tab, select (or create and select) the material to be assigned.
    3. Click on the "Assign" button right below the list of materials.
    4. Continue for each area/material you want to assign.

When exporting to Collada and importing to SL each of those materials can be assigned a different (or the same) image.

Given that it works fine on "first login" – meaning with clean settings, cache and log files, it has nothing to do with the network access.

If the file system is corrupt (which can happen if a machine is abruptly turned off) these files will be written, but trying to re-read them the content can point to some random locations on the disk making the file useless.

I have no doubt a VPN can create major issues for the connection to SL servers, but as I said above, given it works with clean settings files, the corruption happens on the machine itself.

Surprisingly, my file system must have become corrupted when I turned on Virtual Private Relay and ran SL Viewer, but then corrected the corruption when I turned off Virtual Private Relay and restarted SL Viewer. That corrupted file system didn't even affect any other part of my system in the 7 months since it happened.

In other words, your suggestions does not correlate with my experience. @Anicha Heartsong and others have confirmed that stopping Apple's Virtual Private Relay solves the problem without having to repair the file system.

...and then i buy it, and then that will be mine, as long as I keep paying premium?  (or do I also have to pay additonal each month?)

As long as you don't go over your total 1024, i.e. 512 LL Home and 512 Mainland, you won't have to pay additional each month. And yes, you have to keep paying premium.

(TL;DR) I have 2 separate 512 mainland lots for a total of 1024 and I only pay my normal premium, no extras. I don't have an LL Home.

FYI, If you decide you want to get a 1024 LL Home, you will have to either sell your mainland lot, abandon your mainland lot, or pay the additional each month. Unless you are in a premium area, selling your mainland lot usually takes a long time. In the past, I have paid too much for a mainland lot that I ended up just abandoning because I could not sell it, even for a low price.

  8. You can find land for sale in the map. Be sure that the "Land Sale" item is checked. You will see for sale land in yellow with a small "price tag" on it. If you click on that price tag it will show you the size and price. You will get to recognize which ones are closer to 512 after you click a few. Prices vary widely. Some are ridiculously high; others are more reasonable.

Once you find some that you like, go there to see who your neighbors are and if you like the area. You can right click on the land to get info which is where you will have the option to buy it. (Or click on the "Land" menu in the upper left of your viewer.)

This is using Firestorm; I'm sure the process is similar in the LL SL viewer.

The biggest challenge I’m having right now is the physics. It’s like the mesh is inside an invisible box so I can walk through doors or even walk on the deck.

I agree! I have had issues figuring out physics for very simple houses/buildings. I found this video that helped a lot:

  10. Select and Edit what you want to export. Use menu Build->Object->Save as->Collada; then pick the place to save it and save. Once in Blender, File->Import->Collada. You will see that every single prim is a separate shape within Blender. Just exporting back to Collada and importing to SL won't reduce the complexity. You will have to edit the model in Blender to reduce all the extra complexity before exporting to Collada and importing to SL. I am not aware of anything in particular that will do that for you. It will be a manual process. @Rick Daylight has the right idea; building a new model in Blender using the Collada export from SL as a guide may be your best option.

And when I upgraded to Monterey, I also turned on the new feature "virtual private relay' which is in Beta

    ...

So I turned off 'virtual private relay' and so far, so good.

I did the same thing. Turning off 'virtual private relay' is working great. No rebooting needed. Everything loads correctly. Thanks for discovering this and letting us know!

  12. When I login to SL from my Mac I remain an orange blob and my environment has only the terrain downloaded. I see almost nothing around me. There are also errors with my outfit like missing shapes and other missing things. I have gone to different regions all with similar results.

I have logged in with the latest SL viewer, the latest Firestorm viewer, and SingularityAlpha; all result in the same issues.

If I login with my Linux desktop computer (on much older hardware), on the same local area network and connected to the same wide area network, everything loads fine, even pretty quick.

    Is anyone else experiencing this?
Can you suggest what to look at in my system that might be causing this?
I am reasonably good with IT but this is stumping me.

Below are my specs on my Mac:

    MacOS Monterey
    iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019)
    Processor: 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5
    Memory: 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
Graphics: Radeon Pro 570X 4 GB

    System Version:    macOS 12.0.1 (21A559)
    Kernel Version:    Darwin 21.1.0
    Boot Volume:    Macintosh HD
    Boot Mode:    Normal

I think I've said somewhere in history that the original plan for Victorian was to have a commercial variant of the homes.  Much like you find in RL, where many of a particular style of Victorian homes that lend themselves to having 1st floor stores or shops and the living quarters on the 2nd or 3rd floors.  These homes would have been in their own zoning area that would have permitted that sort of activity and would be governed by a modified covenant.

I'd love this. I don't have a Linden Home now, but I would be first in line to get a commercial variant of a Victorian Linden Home! (Or any other style for that matter.)

    Thanks @Patch Linden

so shoot another fully armed canon at private landlords? ... also shopping in control by LL?...

I don't pay a private landlord for my Blumfield lot; it's mainland. How is 'shopping in control by LL' different than shopping in control of a private landlord? If you don't like it, don't get one; mainland and private regions will always be available.

  15. This does not have to be anything like "malls". A real easy start would be to duplicate Blumfield, West Haven, Shermerville NW, and Shermerville Central. Locate them away from Bellie by at least a region of ocean. Then set them up just like Linden Homes, but as Linden Shops. It should be fairly easy to create a few shop buildings similar to the way Linden Homes are made; they could even re-use some of the Linden gift buildings already available like the diner building I have on Blumfield. They could just start with four regions to see if there is any interest. Depending on how that works out they can decide if they want to expand it. I would definitely grab a Linden Shop.

  16. I agree. I would sell my mainland shop and get a Linden Shop. But no wild BIG signs. No subletting or rentals. Have rules similar to Linden Homes but for real SL businesses instead.

If there was a 512 Linden Shop, I might get a small Linden Shop and a 512 Linden Home or just stick with a 1024 Linden Shop. But just like Linden Homes, only allow one per premium resident. We can keep huge mega-shops on the mainland or private islands.

Is the Ruth 2.0 still a decent option?

A version of Ruth 2.0, RuthToo, is available as a free download here which should be upload-able to any grid OS or SL:
    https://github.com/ocsean/RuthToo/tree/master/DAEs/BakesOnMesh

You can get full perm copies of RuthToo on OSGrid here:
    http://login.osgrid.org/Wright Plaza/210/17/21

RuthToo and other Ruth 2.0 versions are here full perm on OSGrid:
    http://login.osgrid.org/RuthAndRoth/150/138/21

My RuthToo and RothToo can be found on the SecondLife MarketPlace or at my SL shop here:
    http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Blumfield/107/176/28

We would love to have more clothes for RuthToo and RothToo. If you let me know when you have something available, I can announce it in the Ruth/Roth group.

I know it's a small point, but whilst the centre caps are alloy (the black and silver bit in the middle that looks rather like a part I used to sell), the grey parts look very like steel wheels to me.

Warning: Seriously off topic. Sorry. Couldn't resist. :P

I think the point was, even a Lada at a car show doesn't bother to have alloy wheels.

Although, I think every car deserves to have alloys, even Ladas. This guy agrees :-)

Surprisingly though, this Lada Limo only has steel wheels with hubcaps.

  20. In order to apply a single arm texture (tattoo or other), you have to have a BoM Mesh Body that supports a left arm channel, (LEFT_ARM_BAKED). Most mesh bodies (in my experience but there are likely exceptions) do not have this support because it doesn't automatically show the full body texture if there is no left arm texture. So, almost every skin texture out there would cause your left arm to not have a skin texture (likely appear gray). There are ways around this issue if you do have a mesh body that supports the left arm channel, but most just don't want to deal with it at all; so, most mesh body makers do not support it.
