  1. Beauty is a self validation for yourself AND everybody else.

I just work the sliders until I like what I see. I do that for me  not for you.

    Then I do it again.

    And again.

    And again.

    And again ad nauseum.

Clubs? I've been to 511 a couple of times. Seems to be lots of avis standing around. No local chat an no IMs. TAG? I get very few IMs at TAG. Now they enforce dress code I rarely go. The lag is terrible at both.

If I'm at a female only venue  I get IMs & lots of chat. Hard to figure why.

  2. Swinging back on topic, friendships don't just happen. As I said "up there^^" timezones are the killer, because your timezone will exclude half the residents.

Oddly enough, I rarely come across UK residents. I think this is because I tend to be in world mid to late afternoon UK time, whereas a lot of UK users come on later. There are country specific groups, so group chat, but the UK ones I'm in are not that active.

So the best advice is to pitch up at busy places, look at profiles, and if anything catches your eye, send an IM. Don't expect instant friendship. Common ground and/or interests in SL helps. Beware of hidden agendas!

But on balance, SL is a lot of fun. Especially on cold wet winter days.

  3. I've attempted driving once. I found it totally impossible. And why are the cars so huge here?

But I enjoy riding my bicycle, which is slow and easy to control. It's relaxing to cycle round the mainland. Not that I ever get time. Sailing is much easier than driving. Even I can manage that.

I tried a motorbike once. Disastrous.

  4. Yesterday I had a convo with a time served decent looking guy avi at Fogbound. But despite being barrel aged, he was going on about

    "I'm  bored"

" What is there to do in this game"

"People take this game too seriously"

"What's the point of having a relationship in SL and not moving it into RL?"

Aaaand so on. Look mister. If you're bored, SL is maybe not for you. Move on. Nothing to see here.

  5. If I hadn't met someone at Kuula (NCI) in my first few days, who took me under her wing, taught me the basics, gave me a place to call home, I would not have stayed. Its overwhelming. Like landing on an alien planet. I got through it by some miracle. Now I try to help out where I can, but I rarely see any Linden basic avis.  More common are well constructed avis who are a couple of weeks old.......with NPDOF and a blank profile.

  7. I recently deblocked about twenty on the forums in a rare gesture of reconciliation. Most had actually disappeared anyway.

In world, my block list is huge.

Made up of serial spammers, a few producers, and those needy selfish easily angered people who demand all my in world time.

I have a theory about how the time-shift works.

When you are younger, each day-week-month-year-experience is a larger part of your total time or experiences so far.  So, each month "seems" longer and each experience "seems" more memorable since you have less time and experiences.

But as you get older, each day-week-month-year-experience is a smaller and smaller proportion of your time up to this point.  So, each day-week-month-year seems "shorter", and each experience seems less memorable.

This. When you're five, a year is one fifth of your life.

When you're 50, it's a fiftieth. So ten times faster.

  9. I don't worry too much about NPIOF, but as one aspect of a profile and avi appearance, and age of avi, it sets a caution in my head. I recently encountered such an avi. Beautifully assembled, not long in world, NPIOF, limited profile info. Claims to have worked to get Lindens in world, and not be an alt. OK. Might be possible, but I'm not convinced.

  10. First there was just me. I stick with my look, apart from hair colour & style. Then one day I had a bake fail and that spooked me. I overcame that eventually, but soon after it happened a couple more times.

It seemed to make sense to make a reserve account, "just in case". That was Salty. I meshed her up as my younger sister. I enjoyed doing that too much! So after a while I decided to make a middle sister. Just because. A rebellious one because middle sisters are ALWAYS rebellious. And that was it. Or so I thought.

Some time later, a guy I knew wagered that if I made another avi he would know it was me. Well I did, and he didn't. This sister is the strong one. By now I was getting the hang of this. But BoM arrived and I daren't risk screwing up my sisters trying out BoM, so I made a test avi. She later became another sister, but by now I was confused who fitted where. She became the posh one. And that was it.

Until a group of friends were thinking we could make a better job of a guy avi than most of the guy avis in world. So we all made one and hung out together  but man, that was weird. Soon after I morphed Alex into a sister. I use the male version rarely as a photo prop. And that really is it. They are all mesh & BoM. I restrict their inventories but they do OK. I make no secret of my family. They get in world when I allow it. They each have a small friends list, and each one is a slight variation of me.
