  1. Role play probably deserves its own thread. I've only ever seen it in fragile form, where like snow on the window, it dilutes rapidly into the real person.

In the forums I don't see what benefit it brings. In world, to be honest, depending on the "role" it can become irritating and or distracting fast.

Role playing alts here  or in world takes enormous effort, and in most cases, people duck behind alts to be controversial. That's me generalising.

Trolling is just being controversial for the sake of it. My Mom told me that low-light dwellers bereft of intellect have no opinion worth a second glance anyway, and she knew everything. Until she had me.

Don't shoot, please. I'm not an alt. I just renamed my account after many years. Still the same despicable me .. :P

    Bye !

Reels in stick and handkerchief and quickly shuts door again.

  3. This is 19 pages of overthinking the question.

My alts have posted pictures in the avi section, but not for a long time. My alts think the way I tell em. So there would be no point hearing their views.

I never look beyond the SL event horizon. That keeps it simple. If you want to go play, there are plenty of red flags with alts. I ignored them once willingly, and got hurt. I ended it swiftly. It won't happen again.

But here, I see what people think. I never argue. My RL opinions stay in RL. I never even think who might be an alt on the forums so it's not on my radar at all.

And as if by magic, as if to prove me wrong, an alt troll breaks cover in a nearby thread.

  4. Eight pages is TLDR, so I instructed my alt to read it all and report back later.

Incidentally my first avi is my main. But some people become their alt and semi retire or retire their main. Some people morph between alts just as it suits them. So even the word alt is a bit ambiguous.

    Bottom line, I don't care.

  5. Two things.

    1. Why would you spend your leisure time in SL if you didn't like or enjoy it? So by going in world repeatedly over time, each individual must get some reward from doing so.

2.BUT...Some forumites don't spend so much time in world, preferring the forums. So maybe its this cohort who challenge the SL fanpeople. By definition there will be far more forum preferrers here than in world fans.

I come here when away from home and unable to get in world. But I would much rather be in world. And I love it. Warts & all.

  6. It really highlights the SL overall dynamic. I talk about this ENDLESSLY, because that's how relationships rise and fall. Its a continuum. At one end is no contact. At the other end are those rare convos which kick off spontaneously during a totally random encounter and burn hot.  Admittedly these are super rare, but very occasionally a meeting of minds produces an unexpected stream of consciousness both ways. In between are all those other convos. Like a tray of seedlings, some wither quickly. Some take hold and grow slowly. In an adult world, you would think this would be a sorta predictable path. But then factor in agendas, self interest, economy of truths, clumsy compliments, socially awkward individuals, and so on, and most encounters won't last. The ones which do are special. Old SL friends don't need a daily IM chat. The dynamic sets an understanding. Old friends don't have an agenda. Old friends can give compliments, and backhanders and that's OK because we both "get it". But for every Old friend there are many more who just didn't click. No problem with that. SL is for fun and relaxation. Sometimes drama us unavoidable, but can be minimised. Give me drama and we're done. From The Queen Elizabeth I playbook. Ask me about RL and you're on the cliff edge. Example. "How old are you?"...me "Over 30"......them..."That's not acceptable" .....me "I think we're done".

  7. The bottom line to any compliment is location, with context, and if from a stranger,  content. Most go "nice avi" and keep it a simple ice breaker which I don't mind.

But using an ambiguous double pronged backhander to a stranger. AND, I forgot to mention, she wasn't on the same sim....is truly oddball.

I really do wonder if she was an alt of someone who had taken a dislike to me. But how could they?? 9_9

  8. The one I got which stays with me, and I did share it here at the time...

"Why do you dress like a middle aged Barbie?"

I'm still trying to figure this out. OK, I dress like Barbie because I can. Thats hardly unusual in SL.

The middle aged thing? Is this sorta poking at my RL age? Because my avi doesn't look over 30. Or is this a style slap in the face?

I dunno. It came from a female avi I never met before and haven't seen since. Weird.

Anything else just embarrasses me. I work hard on how I look, but I do that to please me. Its nothing more than slider skills and 3D art.

And shedloads of shopping. And I really do mean that. When I can't be in world but can use my phone I'm in MP collecting demos........9_9

  9. Maybe this is related to missing inventory items, but it's only happened maybe three or four times to me.

I do constant outfit upgrades, because I use saved outfits as my baseline. Recently, when loading saved outfits, the skirts, from different makers were missing. I keep a word file of my saved outfits, so I can identify what's missing, and these items were not in my inventory. One item is no longer available so can't be redelivered. A few weeks ago a pair of boots also vanished. It's so rare, and so odd and random I just can't figure out why.

If you don't use saved outfits, you might never realise something has vanished. I thought the missing inventory issue was involving lots of things, but maybe its also single random items.

    Any thoughts?

  10. You need to make a Flickr group, and although it will be a slow burn, word will get around. Maybe also throw an opening party. Take account of timezones. I don't stay on much after 12 noon SLT. If you fave on Flickr, include a reference/LM to your sim.

It's not the same as a photogenic themed sim but will pull in aspiring models and photographers. At Naturally Naughty, there's an ad wall for models. I've been on that wall for a few months and never had a ping. But I've also bumped into a photographer there when I was doing my own pics, and allowed him to take some pics of his own of me.

Also add to your profile if you haven't already.9_9

Turns out I'm following you on flickr already Nikolai! Though I recognised that name!

Let me suggest something that I found to be very helpful.

Modify a copy of the shape that came with your mesh head by setting all sliders except the head and face sliders to the same settings as your usual shape. Wear a copy of that shape. Have an alt wear exactly what you are wearing, except for wearing your usual shape and a skin that is a different shade. Rez two identical posing stands. You sit on one and have your alt sit on the other. Move the posing stands to exactly the same coordinates.

Now, tweak sliders for hours and hours and hours until your face approximates your alt's as closely as you can make it.

    This^^. And alts never complain!

Avalon is an early Lelu Evo head and responds very well to sliders.

  12. I have a "relationship" with SL. I love being in world. I miss it when I can't be in world. My RL/SL balance is unbalanced, because although RL comes first,  I wish I had more SL time. Tuesdays & Wednesdays right now are RL focused, but I still Discord  and do MP & flickr when I get break time. Otherwise I get my RL stuff done then log in, and maybe do 70% solitary and 30% hunting. Basically I hunt for a decent conversations. It can be anywhere. Photo sim, just exploring, or a club, or a RP club. I follow my nose. That has kept me happy for five years. Friends? Yes but apart from a core group I first met here on the forums, most friends are casual and busy, or hardly in world. I don't mind. Casual occasional interaction works for me. Finally, the weather affects my available time.  Too hot/cold or wet means more in world time. I'm always gone by 12noon SLT at the absolute latest  because that's 8pm here and family meal time. But I can spend hours in world and never get tired of it.
