  1. Blogging is a big deal, because it provides freebies, and that can matter.  But the blogotex process is quite specific in terms of what bloggers can access, how long they get after taking the item before they blog it, and how many blogs they must do per month or whatever. Some also require Facebook, and/or other social media.

I know some bloggers, and it can certainly get like work. And it takes time away from personal creativity. Having said that, I've blogged poses for an old friend informally, but having applied to maybe eight or nine creators over the past few months, all I got was rejected. It's no big deal. I'll just continue with my freelance blogging, because that way, I buy what I want to wear in world.

Totally agree; that is a portal I would love to walk or dive through!  Do you own the portal or is it something you found?  If found, where, please?

Leora, click on the image and the link is below the image on flickr. It's the Timelord Sandbox. A multi sim sci-fi fantasy with a space station, Millennium Falcon, Moonbase, and a lot of other stuff including those stargate portals. Prepare to be awestruck.9_9

  3. I came to the forums within a couple of days of rezzing. Because it made sense. Because hobby/geek/nerd/social groups all have forums.

The two most important things I got as a newbie, were firstly, a massive amount of help with my avi, which I could not have found anywhere else. And second, a bunch of rock solid geek friends who have stayed together now for several years. We may not interact that often in world or here, but we splintered off onto Discord, and socialise 24/7, (timezones adjusted).

Two massive gains for this newbie five years ago.

  4. As I get tucked in bed, this has been a very civilised conversation so far. Miracles do happen. We do share a sort of common bond, despite the occasional spats. When it's like this it can be a pleasure to be here. 9_9

    Yeah I know. Tempting fate.

  5. The GDF is like sticking your head into a familiar bar like Cheers. Full of people you sorta "know", along with attitudes you sorta "know".

I'm here occasionally, when I'm bored....no that's not right. When I'm away from home without my laptop, it's a place of entertainment & amusement.

I don't have time to read 29 pages of what boils down to a 24 hour news channel, with wash, rinse, repeat going on.

But I still enjoy a snapshot of attitude exposure from "The Predictables". A bit like finding a favourite snack at a works buffet lunch.

Some people don't realise how amusing they are. So cutting through the nettles occasionally to be entertained is worth it.9_9

  6. Oh so this is still running huh?

    Obviously TLDR.

No point in generalising, although here's my generalisation.

We all start from a different place, with a different agenda. Our experiences in SL are from personal interactions, or what friends tell us. That's a tiny percentage of what happens in SL. But it colours our view.

Keep it simple. Take people as they present. If they disclose RL info that's up to them. In the end I see no reason to state any RL info in my profile because there will never be a crossover. It boils down to my favourite mantra.  The "Dynamic" of conversation. Sometimes it works, and there's immediate chemistry, followed by friendship and so on. Most times new conversations falter really quickly, for whatever reason. All I will add is that conversations with female avis usually flow much easier than with male avis. That's without knowing the RL gender of anyone.

I think the importance of all of this is really overstated. Just enjoy what SL offers, and have fun. Drama can be avoided. SL is a big place!

  7. It's usually a Group thing. I don't get many, but what I do get is when group chat is running, it often generates an IM from someone who is either chatting in group or watching the group.

The other hunting ground is big stores such as Maitreya and Lelutka, and shopping events, which sometimes result in a friend request, IM or request for money from a stranger.

  8. What Scylla said. And Lindal, such a voice of reason to me as a newbie five years ago. We met a couple of times in world. I respect your knowledge and your presence on the forums immensely.  You were one of the few people who were invaluable to this newbie in making her want to stick around. As others have said, never say never. Drop by any time. You're always welcome at my place for a chat, and few get to do that! Stay safe. Follow doctors orders. Exercise regularly. You WILL be missed, be in no doubt of that. My prayers and best wishes go with you.

  9. I haven't read six pages of opinion. TLDR is one fundamental of the forums. Too much padding doesn't get read.

However,..........in 2018 when I came in new  I was made welcome and received a huge amount of help. I basically lived here when not in world.

Over time, the often sour contributions pushed me away. The biggest push away though was from relentless chat in the avi photo threads, and long running dramas playing out here. At one time I had 15 on block.

Maybe it hasn't changed that much but my newbie eyes saw something very different to what they see now.
