hmmm you pick your last name from a list? Pass thanks can't see that enticing many to part with cash

Most people did that. But there was a site that listed last names in use (http://slnamewatch.com/?action=list_records&status_filter=all&sort_order=DESC&order_by=usage_count), and you could dig around in there and find one you liked.

There were also sites where you could sign up with the first and last name of your choice, as long as it wasn't already taken, and as long as the last name was an unlocked, bona fide SL last name.  (They would lock a last name for various reasons.)

I went through a lot of silly names and names I thought were cool that way.

On the other hand, the official SL signup form gave you a choice of a few last names, and if you didn't like any of them you could keep refreshing the page until one you like popped up. It wasn't always easy, but it was hard work that paid off.

Maybe only the rlv “controller” (of you) can execute the commands unless you issue a command indicating that you override any “controllers”?

I don't know how it would get in or out of that state.

Maybe for some reason my viewer just wasn't able to fetch the texture.

You can say that on channel 1, or the one you chose if you moved away from channel 1.

Thanks - I did try that, also /1krshow, but it remained invisible. I can sum up what I know:

    • four separate and distinct items from two different sources all behaved the same way
    • even when a fifth one worked correctly, the first four continued not to
    • I've gotten those same items in the past (in other accounts) and they worked perfectly
    • detaching/replacing didn't work, even on an empty sim
    • relogging didn't help
    • commands didn't work (/1keshow, /1 ke show, /1krshow, /1 kr show)
    • menu "Stealth" option didn't change anything
    • other people witnessed all this, so it wasn't just my viewer acting up

I'm only mildly curious at this point. I appreciate the help, and initially assumed that someone would point out some silly mistake I'd made. Thanks to all who replied -- the advice was all good; I think it's just one of those weird little things beyond my understanding, and that's fine.

Curious if the problem has resolved. You posted at 6AM Tuesday and the grid was running through rolling-restarts. All sorts of odd things happen.

Yes, sorry - I can't get inworld during my workday, but I can ask questions. So there's always a lag between a suggestion, my trying it, and my reporting the results. The problem first appeared in the evening before my posting.

This morning I tried each of the four (different) invisible collars. They were all still invisible. I deleted them all, went back to the OC Temple, and got yet another, and this one is visible.

So victory, yay! But for unknown reasons.

Settings - make sure stealth is unticked.

Thanks for the suggestion - I found it unchecked, so just for the hell of it I checked it and unchecked it again,  but it's still invisible. I even bought another collar off the marketplace, and it was invisible too! I can't imagine what I'm doing wrong.

    Open Collar manual: https://www.opencollar.at/manual.html

(Please don't ask me how I know this. ~Snorts~)

Thanks for the link -- the manual is nicely done -- it did explain some other things I wondered about.  It did say that the Stealth option that Cindy mentioned did make the collar invisible, but as I  said, it was already unchecked, and toggling it didn't change anything.

  6. I went to the Temple of the Open Collar and picked up one of the nice free collars, but when I put it on, it was invisible!

After going through all the menus looking for a "hide/show" type toggle -- and not finding one. I tried taking it off, putting it back on again, going to an empty sim and trying again, relogging and trying again, and rebooting my computer, but none of that helped.

Other people couldn't see it either.

I made the collar big in case it was tiny and embedded in my neck. I tried to edit it, and saw that I'd made the thing as big as a toilet seat, but I could only see this while editing.

I tried three other collars with the same result.  I hadn't changed any of the settings except for hitting "Fix," which made the collar say, "I fixed the menus!" (whatever that meant).

Any ideas about to fix it?

  7. This was playing at the Five Guys burger place near my job -- it got stuck in my head before I understood how awful the lyrics were.  Even so, the sound is so typical of 80s pop... which was kind of funny, because there was not a single worker born before 1995. I had to wonder who chose the music, which was all pretty much the same vintage.

I remember when she was a contestant on American Idol how beautiful she was (and of course still is), but most of all how strong her voice is. I don't mean strong in the sense of belting songs out, but strong in the sense that nothing she sang taxed her in the least. She always had more power than she used, which was amazing because even with that she always sang better than anyone else.

So... sorry to say, but that's why I was so disappointed that she ended up singing country music. This one's good though - good song, good video. Maybe she can make a big change, like Taylor Swift did.
