  1. This is definitely not a discussion that's going to be resolved, or understood, in an SL forum because it mirrors RL. We are now living in an era when the PICTURE is now the end goal instead of a simple documentation of the journey. People will spend 15 minutes to get a perfect, post worthy, picture of their food and then eat a cold dinner. People score front row seats to a concert and then spend the concert watching the artist on an 8" phone screen. There was an article just last week about an Instagram personality that was busted by her sister faking rugged outdoor pictures by setting up scenes in her back yard. I don't understand it, but there's an entire generation and groups that live for the picture instead of the actual experience. I fully believe that this is one of the reasons that SL has become less social and more focused on blogs, Flikr, and other media.
  2. I think you're correct that it was AFK. Extremely low budget with bad acting, but it was fun and I watched both seasons.
  3. Wow, thanks for the info. This seems really close to what I was looking for.
  4. I once asked a vendor to include pics in the box and they exuded on me. I have no idea why it's such a ridiculous thing to ask. Simply include the ad or MP listing pic. When you have 10s of 1000s of clothing items spanning 13 years, there's no way I'm going to remember how something looks.
  5. Plus, you can go to their SIM and rez each house to see and try the furniture included.
  6. First, let me say that I know nothing at all about scripting. I have a friend that I know could do this for me, but I think I'm to the point of using up all my favors with him. I am pretty sure this script exists in some form and I've been looking around for a few days but have only found discussions from the early days of SL. I am looking to have a self driving vehicle similar to the trains, taxis, ski lifts, etc with some minor changes. In my specific case it would be a small rowboat or gondola that allows 1 or 2 people to sit and one of the sitters would just click a hud with about 3 destinations to start the journey. All destinations would be in the same SIM. The boat would follow a specific path to get to the destination. The boat would be completely self driven with no interaction from the avatars. I thought that was all I needed but after talking to someone about it, a couple questions came up. 1) Once the journey starts, I would probably need to rez another boat at the starter location or the next group would have to wait too long for the boat to return. 2) I would probably need to unrez the boat when everyone stood up to reduce clutter. 3) I would probably want an AVSitter menu so that I could add sit poses. Any ideas on if this already exists or difficult this would be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  7. I was browsing around on Amazon video last week for something to watch and came across a show about people getting pulled into a video game similar to World of Warcraft. It turned out that one of the female characters was actually a guy named Steven. When confronted, he explained that he created a female character because if he was going to play the game all the time than he'd rather be staring at a cute female butt all day than staring at his own.
  8. I have 2 houses on my property just for this purpose, but I've never seen anyone use them.
  9. If you are using Firestorm than I think the best solution is to use the built in AO system. Simply find individual poses or animations you want for each action. That's the only real way to tailor an AO specific to your tastes.
  10. That is the way I have mine set up. I forgot to mention that they are much easier to use if there is an on/off button. Most do not fit well under certain clothes. You can add and remove, or be very detailed when setting up outfits, but I find it easier to always wear it and turn it on or off as needed. This does have the side effect of increasing your script count even when not seen, though.
  11. In addition to many of the great skins listed above, I would add Esode to the list. They seem to be rather a niche skin that looks to be late teens to early 20's and have very limited options with their body/head combos but the quality and pure beauty of the look is stunning.
  12. Take my opinion with a grain of salt because mine never sees any action. I wear one for purely aesthetic reasons because I prefer to not look like a eunich. The quoted text above would closely mirror my opinion. If I remember correctly, the Lady's Secret can be colored with the Maiteya Omega applied, meaning it will match perfectly. I have the VAW version and it can be difficult to match well with certain skins. The big question you need to ask yourself is what you want it to do. There's no need for tons of features,a huge HUD and tons of scripts if you just want something that looks good.
  13. @RaeLeeH Beautiful post and well said. I was trying to say something similar in my previous post, but yours was much more eloquent and detailed.
  14. First, let me say that these changes are great for me personally. I am currently on a free membership and I own full private regions. I don't like having a large number of group memberships so there is no downside to any of the changes for myself. Having said that, I don't understand, nor do I agree with the changes. SL has been declining in membership and it seems that very few new players (not alts) are joining. How does increasing cost for premium and reducing benefits for free members attract new players? I mentioned in another thread that I don't recall seeing any sort of advertising for SL in recent memory. Has LL given up getting new players and just decided to generate more money from the existing population?
  15. I may come off sounding like a *****, but I think quite a few people in this thread might either be lying to themselves or trying to take a moral high ground for whatever reason. Of course looks matter in SL, just as they do in RL. It's not about the money you spend, but about the impression you give that you're making an effort. Can anyone truthfully say that their first impressions are the same for someone decked out in full mesh and custom clothing versus a guy walking around naked with the default avi and his thing sticking straight out? Doubtful. To get more into what the OP asked, I believe that answer is also a yes, but simply because the first impression would indicate that I wouldn't have much in common with them. If I see a furry and their entire profile is all furry related than chances are we're not going to have much in common.
  16. I think @WinTrain hit it pretty close. SL used to be much more active, more social, and more crowded back in the old days. I believe one of the reasons that it felt even more crowded was because it was much smaller. Most of the big stores, clubs, and attractions were on the mainland and most private islands were just broken down into parcels for private housing. One of the other factors that really hurt was banning gambling. Poker and slots used to be absolutely huge and was even more popular than sex. I personally knew a ton of people that left during that time. There were always some traffic driving bots or alts, but it was limited. I left for a few years and came back to AFK places being at the top of all traffic lists. It took me a while to figure out what their purpose even was. I'd say that even though the stats show a relatively slow decline in numbers, the actual figures are much more drastic. The number of actual, participating, unique accounts logged in at any one time is nowhere close to where it used to be. On a side note, has anyone actually seen any kind of advertisement for SL, at all? I spend most of my day and night on the web and don't recall seeing anything about SL for years. It's really hard to get people to join if nobody even knows it exists.
  17. It "could" mess things up. Some heads act differently to the shape sliders. I have some shapes made specifically for Catya, but if I wear the Lelutka head, it looks broken. There seems to be mostly a problem with the chin area. Also, the skins may or may not match correctly. Best advice is to make a copy of everything for testing and try it out.
  18. I'm interested but am out of town and not able to log on. I should be able to get on tonight or tomorrow morning and will contact you.
