  1. I'm following the FS dev channel which does have it and my OCD won't allow me to use a regular release, only the ones I build myself! When I feel I'm too bogged down I go back to an older version I made.
  2. I'm following the FS dev branch. So, i'll do what they say in the Army. Hurry up and wait! I will try out the official SL viewer to take a look next time I'm in Windows or Mac though.
  3. Is there anyway to disable EEP and go back to the way it was? EEP has a huge impact on FPS.
  4. For any of the Ubuntu (19.10 and below) and its flavors ive always installed wine64 (installs lots of i386 packages and voice in linux is 32bit) sudo apt install wine64 Followed by: sudo apt install libidn11:i386 libuuid1:i386 libstdc++6:i386 Then voice works perfectly. You can also set FSLinuxEnableWin32VoiceProxy to TRUE in Firestorm debug settings and copy slvoice.exe from a windows version into the viewers bin folder if wine is installed. Both ways voice will work just fine.
  5. I agree. Ryzen 5 3600 along with a B-450 chipset motherboard is the best value out there right now. Costs: 3600 $179, B-450 mboard w/wifi $109 16gb ddr4 ram $79. So about $370 will do it. A little less if you dont want wifi.
  6. Your problem is the FX-6300. It's old and under powered. A graphics card change isnt going to make much of a difference because the bottleneck here is the CPU. Best thing to do for now is to reduce max avatars to say 4 so only 4 avatars are being rendered with the rest as 2d impostors (Avatar > Preferences > Graphics > Max# of non-imposter avatars (this is probably set to 16 right now)). If you really want better performance its time for a new cpu, motherboard and ram. Your RX-570 though basic for a discrete card will be fine with modern hardware. An SSD upgrade is not going to improve SL performance at all in terms of FPS.
  7. I just checked with LL support on this. The $600 transfer fee (to LL) of the grandfathered/buy down sim MUST be paid in USD while the actual selling price of the region is to be paid in lindens. I had bought a buy down region almost about 2 years ago and the whole transaction (transfer and selling price) was done in USD. So, L$270000 ($1046) plus $600usd seems way out of range for a grandfathered/buy down region. The transfer of Lindens is done buy LL support directly not through an in world purchase.
  8. An apu is a cpu with integrated graphics.Superposition and Valley are great stress tests that also support opengl (what SL uses). Firestrike and Timespy are other really good tests from 3dMark as well. https://benchmarks.ul.com/3dmark And for a whole computer benckmark checkout the Performance Test from Passmoark (select free trial) https://www.passmark.com/products/performancetest/index.php
  9. She could be using an apu where the thermal paste somehow dried out causing thermal shutdowns.
  10. I used to hang around Morris way back in 2009. I still go back every now and then and yes, its not a zoo at all.
  11. No!!! This needs much more discussion! People are unaware of being able to teleport to politically correct sims directly when at infohubs! UNFAIR to close this thread!!!
  12. Chum Buckets are a great way to describe info hubs.
  13. I would never ever pay anymore than L$1/sqm for mainland and only if that mainland was mostly abandoned. I see tons of mainland being offered at absolutely ridiculous prices and wonder how or why these mainland resellers would want to hold and pay tier on land that just doesn't sell. There are so many downsides as mentioned to mainland as well I cant see why any responsible person would buy it. If you have a quality and responsive private estate landlord who can resolve issues quickly mainland just doesn't make sense to me. Unless of course you want to build something totally ridiculous that you know your neighbors would instantly complain about. Just my 2 cents.
  14. I was surprised a bit that as well. I only use self compiles and Windows uses openjpeg 1.4 vs linux with openjpeg 1.5.1. Release versions of Firestorm and the official LL client use KDU Linux also has performance improvements when compiled with avx2 extensions, though according to Ansariel (FS dev) it should actually degrade performance and it does with windows. Also from reading the output from nvidia-smi linux uses much more GPU power than windows will. On "average" linux will use about 38% of the GPU vs about 15-20% of the GPU in windows on one down from ultra. Using ultra however GPU usage double or more. That could very well explain the performance increase as well. However, KDU ive found doesnt really improve FPS but it does seem a bit more stable. Thats just an observation though. As far as for MacOS. Apple treats opengl as the redheaded stepchild and uses opengl 2.1 (from 2005!?!?!) for SL as opposed to opengl 4.2 (on my iMac) for AMD and opengl 4.6 for nvidia for win and linux. I think with the next version of MacOS after Catalina opengl will be gone completely. Hoping (fingers crossed) LL will upgrade the client to Vulkan to avoid that nightmare, About the videos... I can make them but I signed up to use Windows insider which has given windows a serious performance cut. Reinstalling windows is on the schedule but not a priority right now. I rarely use it and with all the drivers I need to load, development libraries and my programs it just takes a good whole afternoon to reinstall. Unlike linux which takes about 20-30 minutes.
  15. Fair benchmarking in SL is next to impossible. There are just too many variables that can alter FPS. If you're looking for the "best" desktop cpu for SL the Intel 9900-K (or KS) will outperform any cpu out there. Anything less than that the AMD Ryzen 3000 series is the best way to go. Hopefully the Ryzen 4000 series will catch up to Intel in frequency. Laptops are a completely different story as they sacrifice performance for energy savings. For an excellent rundown on what cpus and gpus are best for gaming and or productivity please see the following youtube channels. Gamers Nexus (nothing but raw data from different use cases. If youre not a total geek this channel may induce a sudden case of narcolepsy) Tech Deals (What is the best value for your budget and or use case). Linus Tech Tips (Entertaining and explains the technology well). What operating system youre using also plays a major factor. My beloved 2015 iMac can only get half the frame rate in MacOS and compared to running windows in bootcamp and and linux on that iMac (I assume because of the AMD driver for the r9-m395x) is 33% worse than MacOS. My laptop hovever with a Nvidia gpu (rtx-2080m (not max-q)) has about a 20% performance improvement in linux as compared to windows. I do not have any info on discrete AMD Radeon gpus with the exception of my iMac.
  16. Yes, but that 30% is spread between the consumer and the creator which is fair. LL does need to make money to continue our fun inworld. If a creator is successful enough they could wait to cash out till they have more than enough lindens to cash out with the max fee of $500usd essentially giving them a transaction discount. Then again only very few can achieve that.
  17. SL price fixing!!! How evil!! But if you set the price too high then the linden will fall even more to balance that out.
  18. I cant speak as a content creator and I know I am in the minority but this years pricing changes as an private region owner has/will save me $192 a year (From $199/mo to $179(buy down region) + 28/yr (yearly premium increase from $72 to $99/yr)$30 for extra 10k prims stays the same).
  19. It all depends on your computer and GPU. If youre using a $400 laptop from Walmart... multiple accts logged in at the same time are not going to work. If youre using a desktop with one of the new AMD R9's (12 and 16 core) with a RTX-2080ti and 64GB of ram or more then the sky is the limit.
  20. You can resell gpl code. Thats fine or else Red Hat will be in big big trouble! However.. there are many commercial 3rd party programs used in SL that would require licensing to resell. Cafekan would in all likelihood end up spending more in attorneys and licencing fees than what she would get in receipts for selling her viewer. https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.en.html#DoesTheGPLAllowMoney
  21. Intel graphics on FS linux really arent that good. A lot of juggling of memory unfortunately and yes... a max of 512MB texture mem Try doing things like turning down the draw distance to 32 or 64 to save on video mem. For linux its best to choose a laptop with a discrete Nvidia GPU (if thats an option for you). If you have the RAM available you could always try making a ramdisk for the cache. That might help a tad or two... or not
  22. Good luck with that. I do believe you will get a lot of push back though for charging money for a GPL/LGPL open source project.
  23. Sion Chickens aka death to a previously well performing sim.
  24. As far as for alpha testers that's what all the people who self compile do. Testing just about each and every new untested changeset that gets pushed out to the codebase. Sometimes on an hourly basis on all three platforms. To the devs, were either helpful or sometimes completely annoying to them.
