This makes me wonder, if there an option in the SL viewers (whether official or TPV's) to "hide all other avatars"?

This would be useful for performance, when either you just don't care or need to shop / explore without lag from "other people".

ctrl alt shift 4    That will remove all avatars in the region. Same sequence to bring them back.

Workarounds range from reducing the RenderVolumeLODFactor (so that less vertices get rendered, with the hope that it will suffice to stay below the limit) to increasing RenderMaxNodeSize (which works better, but will cause a higher memory consumption both at the GPU and GPU levels).

Thank you Henri! Increasing RenderMaxNodeSize solved a major headache I was having with a highly detailed item. :)

    I grabbed HWiNfo.

At the moment, GPU temp is 44 C and CPU is at 50 C.

There is no dust in the system.

Firestorm has been running today for 12h, along with some other programs.

    CPU % currently 11%, memory 72%, disk 0 at 3%.

When doing so make sure FS is not in the background yielding frames to other programs. See the photo below to set FS to always run at 100%. FS is only going to use one core so total CPU usage will not be 100% or even close to that with a 12700

  4. How hot is the cpu getting? Dell is famous for putting $5 cpu coolers even on higher end machines so you are most likely thermal throttling. Use a program like HWiNfo or HWMonitor to check temperatures. I have a big feeling you are seeing temps in the 95c+ range so the computer is drastically reducing performance to save itself from burning up completely. Dell has also most likely dumped a very wide range of bloatware using valuable system resources. If its possible as Dell uses proprietary (as opposed to interchangeable off the shelf parts) to get a better cpu cooler. In some cases Dells coolers are fastened directly to the case as opposed to the industry standard way of using a back plate on the motherboard. That is a horrible design but keeps the computer inexpensive. Check with Dell directly to see if you have choices for a better cpu cooler if as what I suspect your cpu is getting too hot. However if you do see dust inside the machine buy a can of compressed airm take off the side panel and blow it out. Taking a look at Dell's website for that machine they did not put a picture of the inside of the machine which raises an eyebrow. See this review on Gamers Nexus though this is for a different Dell model but I assume build quality will be the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DMg6hUudHE

  5. Don't buy an ARC GPU. They are seen as being absolutely horrendous across all review channels. So unless you have money to burn and just want to play with something new because you're bored don't buy it. Maybe their 2nd or 3rd gen will be better but for now they fall into Yugo territory.

  6. C:\Users\WinLoginName\AppData\Roaming (you may need to enable hidden folders).

Rename the Firestorm_x64 and/or Secondlife folder to Firestorm_x64.bak or Secondlife.bak

This will reset the viewer to first install condition. Try from there to rule out bad or corrupt viewer settings.

  7. Does SL run when you are in Intel graphics mode? Do you know how to switch between internal and discrete graphics (it's either in the bios or a "control center package in windows)? Don't use Optimus mode (OS switching mode between Intel/NVidia). Chose either internal (intel) or discrete (NVidia).

100k?  you do know these are done in usd and not L$

Region selling is done strictly in Lindens and has been for quite some time now. See https://lindenlab.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/31000153034-i-want-to-sell-or-buy-a-private-region-to-from-another-resident-  That is probably to get around tax liability and to make a few $$$ on L$ sales.

  9. I have a 3080 and 5900x I use Firestorm in Linux which is a great compromise between features and performance. If you just want the best fps possible use Henri's Cool VL Viewer in Linux. It's a V1 style interface though but fully functional modern viewer. If you don't want to use Linux both viewers are available for Windows.

I'm not able to show the aws tool I use, but my backbone (I'm in a dc close to the aws site in oregon and inside aws site themselves with hosting)

but I'm seeing 3 links down right now, so there is some routing issues currently, but that changes day to day, hour to hour.

There isn't a routing issue on that trace it's just filtered once it goes to AWS and that is very common.

I'm on Embraced.  There have been times where the sim runs perfectly fine.  The next minute, I can barely move around.

I just went there as well. The sim is running perfectly. What is your computers spec? CPU/GPU/Memory? That could very well be your issue.

As far as for traces you cant use shouldn't use speedtest to test your connection to SL. It's not going over the same route as you are. You can't even use it to guesstimate be cause there are hundreds if not thousands of entry points to where you want to go. You need to do an actual traceroute (or better MTR (WinMTR run as administrator for Windows)) to the IP of your region. In your case that is simhost-0a9e7f9cdba4f953e.agni.secondlife.io  But beware AWS filters traceroute and ping requests (as do other hops along the route) once it enters their network. You can find the IP of your region by going into Help > About Secondlife (firestorm, ect) and see your location of  simhost-0a9e7f9cdba4f953e.agni you just need to add the domain secondlife.io

This is a sample trace to your region from NYC. Blacked out is my ISP, Level3 is a backbone provider and after that it entering AWS.

Below is showing that IP is definitely an AWS address.

    marissa@marissa-MS-7D53:~$ nslookup simhost-0a9e7f9cdba4f953e.agni.secondlife.io
    Server:         127.0.0.53
    Address:        127.0.0.53#53

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name:   simhost-0a9e7f9cdba4f953e.agni.secondlife.io
    Address: 52.43.86.7

    marissa@marissa-MS-7D53:~$ nslookup 52.43.86.7
    7.86.43.52.in-addr.arpa name = ec2-52-43-86-7.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com.

For what it's worth, you can still use the Installation Media Creation Tool to install Windows 10/11 for free, so you don't have to pay for a computer that includes a pre-activated copy (+$130 or so). I've been using unregistered Windows 10 since it came out and it's been totally fine, no missing features outside of some personalization options which you can still change through the Registry if you're really determined.

If you use Linux you can even add your own annoying watermark in the bottom right hand of the screen! :P

Programming language is still programming language. What matters is how it is written.

Well, I really can't see a Second Life client being written in RPG IV, Cobol or Fortran.

Somehow I wonder if this thread is some type of Andy Kaufman-esque joke. Where you post something so over the top just to see who will bite.
