  1. I'm going to guess that it was meant to be a forward thinking move for a time when they'd need another cash cow, but I think they overestimated how many would have more dollars than sense and fall for it after the price and restrictions were revealed. But it's ok, I'm sure that in another 6 months to a year they'll be announcing yet another price hike or two with some of the most creative justifications we could ever imagine.
  2. See all that right there looks exactly like Japanese to me. This is why I should never be let loose around technical stuff. Not even the easy stuff.
  3. I rather thought there had to be some skill and know-how involved. Taking all that into account, the prices aren't really that steep after all.
  4. Still needs talent to put it all together so it comes out looking half decent, doesn't it? Or can it be done in 5 minutes?
  5. Prices seem a bit steep, yes, but they aren't exactly made in 5 minutes. What price would you put on your time if you made a bento head and/or body?
  6. @Skell Dagger Yes, you're right of course, but can't the long-winded stuff come after they've got a quick 'how to'?
  7. @Skell Dagger You're quite right, I did what I hate others doing and missed that. Do we really need to understand the ins and outs of BOM in order to wear it and go about our business? It's like people giving you a history less on the town you live in when you only asked for directions on how to get from Main St to End St. That's exactly what caused so much confusion for me when I was new to SL. Wordy people. Frustrated professors. My idiot's guide to BOM skins - shoot me for wanting to get to the point and avoid unnecessary confusion: 1. Remove your full body alpha 2. Wear an eyes only alpha layer (don't know if she still has them but ADORED was generously giving away a free alpha pack at her main store a month or so ago). 3. Add your head's Omega system kit to your screen. 4. Add your body's Omega system kit to your screen. 5. Add the Baked on Mesh Omega hud to your screen. 6. Right click and add the funny little beige man icon that's in your skin package. 7. Click the 'Baked on Mesh' omega hud. 8. You're done. Sometimes I think we get so carried away with words, we make simple things seem prohibitively complicated when they're not.
  8. Are you kidding, chickadee??? Oh please please please get a BOM skin and wear it? Have a feeling you'll feel more liberated than the bra burning sixties (not that I was there...:P ) I seriously can't get enough of them. No appliers - yayifications!
  9. Thank you for that detailed comparison. It's why I don't wear Legacy to concerts - I just feel like I'm being part of the lag problem for performers.
  10. Alyona, you picked half a sentenced, ignored the rest and immediately mounted a high horse. If you'll please refrain from telling me what I do and don't see, I'll explain it again, as simply as possible. Legacy has twice the complexity of Maitreya - going by my version of the latest FS Viewer - with heaven only knows how many more scripts than other bodes. In a nutshell, what amounts to 20k on Maitreya will usually be found to be around 40k+ on Legacy. And I struggled to get my script count down below 3mb wearing Legacy. It usually hovered over 3mb + so that I gave up and returned to Maitreya. I believe you said that different viewers will give different numbers so that the numbers I was seeing don't exist/aren't valid/weren't real. That isn't actually a valid argument unless you can prove that the numbers given by other viewers consistently demonstrate the bottom line: whether Legacy is half the complexity of Maitreya, or double. Let's ignore the fact that I haven't come across someone with an identical version of FS whose numbers have disagreed with mine - no matter what numbers other viewers give, I think they'll still demonstrate that Legacy is double Maitreya's complexity. That's all I tried to say.
  11. I don't wear attachments. Never have, never will.
  12. It's not negligible. I can't be convinced that the sun is actually the moon. Legacy has twice the complexity of Maitreya (and heaven only knows how many more scripts if it's dependent on an external server to function at all). As I've already said, I don't wear attachments of any description. No. Attachments. Used. At. All. Look, I can only go by the numbers LL gives end users to go by and I'm trying to say that according to LL's complexity and script counts, Legacy is double the weight of Maitreya. Use any viewer you want to view bodies side-by-side; Legacy will still be twice the 'complexity' of any other body, by any viewer's count. Same with the script count. For that reason, I simply don't wear it anymore.
  13. That's great. I kill all mine (create separate folders for colours/styles) but only when going to a concert - am a smidge more relaxed about it otherwise.
  14. I don't wear attachments and don't walk around with huds on my screen either. I kill scripts in hair, clothes, jewelry and shoes and when going to an event, I make sure I'm only wearing Maitreya, with everything else on the body being 100% unscripted.
  15. Really? I'd be interested in knowing exactly how many scripts are in the Legacy body because I didn't have any success in getting my script count below 3mb wearing the thing. With Maitreya, yes - easy as pie, but not Legacy. By all means, argue that numbers aren't numbers and scripts aren't scripts but the bottom line for the end user is that those are the only numbers we have to go on for now - and if you're unable to enter a venue because your script count is too high, then what else are we supposed to go by?
  16. I guess I've had a very different experience with Niran, so I have total confidence in his knowledge.
  17. Yes it is, but it's not his viewer I'm referring to though; it's Niran's knowledge pertaining to Orion's question I was thinking of. If he was let loose at the controls of SL, he'd have it ship shape in no time flat and we'd not have a blessed thing to complain about.
  18. Imo, the expert in the nitty gritty is NiranV Dean (Black Dragon creator); what he doesn't know, isn't worth knowing - he can shoot the nonsense down in flames without even trying.
  19. Aww no don't feel the need to compete. My preference comes purely from a sense of guilt; friends are entertainers and I kind of had a crash course what makes their lives miserable when they're giving performances - and it mostly boils down to complexity and scripts, so I began getting ruthless with my wardrobe. And body. Hence, back to Maitreya.
  20. I agree. I think most bodies are far better optimized than Legacy.
