  1. Don't know if this might help at all, but I discovered that deleting half a gazillion items from my 'outfits' folder reduced the size by 20k-30k. Most saved outfits I wore once and never bothered with again so it seemed silly to keep them as saved outfits. Perhaps that might be a small place to start?
  2. @Clover Jinx Can't even find coherent words to describe that, but it evokes a certain 'feeling' and a kind of almost-reality. Beautifully done! Love the moody atmosphere.
  3. @Skell Dagger Oh geez, is there no end to corruption? But really, I'm only talking about the L$1-L$10 cheapies - those I don't mind taking a chance on and frankly, I've found some beautifully created items in that price range. And where are all these crooked creators offering goods for reviews? Why don't they ever seem to find me, huh? *cackle*
  4. Yes, I agree - when there's only a handful of reviews, but unless their squillionaires, then I don't imagine they can pay for 60+ positive reviews? Those are the ones I tend to watch out for; one or two reviews, not so much.
  5. Pull up the world map and look for the bits of land painted yellow with a L$ price tag over them. Not all land for sale is necessarily listed and you can find some real bargains going on a hunt
  6. LOL you're welcome. If I missed anything, I'm sure someone will pipe in and let us know, but that's pretty much what it all means. Make sure to read the description for items and if the creator doesn't cover what you need to know, you can always send them an IM or a notecard to ask.
  7. Copy means you can copy the item as many times as you like - for instance, a chest of drawers, a side table, etc; if you want one in a couple of rooms, right click the item in your inventory and 'copy' and paste it into it's folder so you'll have 2. Modify - right click and 'edit' - I've sometimes had to do that with things that might be just a wee bit too large for an area, but you're stuck with it if it doesn't have 'modify' permission. Full perms (copy/mod/transfer) are more expensive because that means you can copy/modify/transfer the item to an alt (or someone else) or - as is more usually the case with full perm item - sell multiple copies (if that's in their terms - they'll usually tell you what you can and can't do with the item). I tend to just go for the copy/mod items - not really a shopkeeper kinda girl
  8. Scrolling through the MP is always an option. There's a mind-boggling array of furniture to check out and as others have said, make sure they're copy/mod and check out any reviews. Saves a bit of time if you tick the 'copy' and 'modify' boxes down the left hand side of the MP page: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/products/search?search[category_id]=6
  9. Yes you're correct about skyboxes but don't let that put you off - some of them are absolutely stunning and you'd never know you were actually in a skybox. Always check the reviews and try to see some in-world if you can. You can put a skybox - obviously - above or on the land you buy. Literally, the sky's the limit with Linden land
  10. The 512sqm the Linden home sits on, will automatically be credited to your premium account once you abandon the house. No procedure to follow other than abandoning the land - it's very easy
  11. Yes - it's a reward for having a premium membership and you have it for the life of your membership. If you choose to cancel your membership at any time and go back to a basic account, then obviously you lose the stipend.
  12. It's L$300 a week and tyvm for adding that. I'd completely forgotten about the stipend.
  13. It's really just Mainland land - it was only that the one I bought was alongside 2 others and all 3 were submerged, but you can use the edit land tool to raise land if you prefer. There's plenty of Mainland blocks for sale along the coast, lots of islands, and submerged. You can see them for sale when you bring up the world map - they're highlighted in yellow with a L$ sign over them - if you click on the L$ tag, it will usually tell you the price and size of the block and you can (typically) teleport to each one to have a look. That's what I did. If you find one you like, click on 'About Land>Buy'. Hope I haven't missed something in that reply!
  14. I forgot to answer your question about the Linden Home - you don't have to take a Linden Home if you don't want to but if you do take one and then decide to buy land, you'll be paying the full tier fees for whatever size you purchase (because the free 512sqm you'll already have taken as a free Linden Home). I did initially take the free house, but ditched it in favor of buying Mainland water.
  15. Yes, as I said, some of the larger agencies have beautiful properties and can be brilliant to deal with. Mainland - the reason I'm paying $5.00 USD a month tier is because I ditched the Linden home and bought at 1024sqm parcel instead. Normally 1024sqm incurs an $8.00 USD/per month tier, but premium accounts are allowed 512sqm free, which takes it down to the $5 (512sqm) tier bracket. Land tier fees are listed on left hand side on the account page under 'Land Manager' (for the benefit of newer residents who'd like to know where to find that info for themselves). Private - No premium account needed. Renting privately can be an excellent place to start for those who are brand new to SL and I'd always recommend they go with a large, well established business with a good reputation - it gives them a feel for how things work while they learn what they might ultimately like in terms of space, but it can also be a much more expensive proposition, depending on who they're renting from and the state of SL's land economy. It ultimately boils down to price, convenience and control (or lack thereof).
  16. You can only 'buy land' (rent, really) from a private agency, but some of the larger agencies have gorgeous properties/islands, etc. To buy Mainland, you do need a premium account.
  17. One doesn't actually 'own' land in SL - not really. LL owns it all. I 'own' the land in theory only - and pay LL a monthly tier of $5.00USD. For that price, I can do whatever I want with and on the land - there are no covenants to dictate how I use my land the way there are with private rentals. However, even including monthly membership of $9.50 USD, it still works out far more economical than renting from a private Real Estate agency, so for me, it's worth it. There are plenty of good arguments for renting from a private company, but for me - at least for now - this is what works
  18. Oh sorry, Virtualnsanity - it's on mainland water - a 1024sqm block I found by scanning the inworld map for a few days (you'll see properties for sale on the map with the little shopping tag signs over them) - it was for sale for L$1800. That's a price I simply couldn't laugh at when most of the properties in the general area are priced anything from L$30,000 and up (prices like that really do give me the giggles - I know, I know - there's no doubt a sensible reason for them). It was s submerged block, which suited me just fine since the original owner had a gorgeous little seaside cottage with it's very own little island attached to the bottom of it, which I looked up on the mp and purchased. It's easy enough to raise land, though. So the '360 degree views' are compliments of Firestorm Viewer's 'derender + blacklist' function. In a nutshell, don't like the look of the neighboring properties and wish you had more of the view all to yourself? Derender + Blacklist and you, too, can have unadulterated, 360 degree views. Hope I've answered your questions a bit better *Edit: I can see I left an unasked question wide open, so if you bring up your world map and type in the search bar - for example - 'Prospero', hit enter, and take a look at the areas all around there. Right now I can see two 1024sqm properties for sale, one for L$3500 and the one next it for L$2000, which seems very reasonable for water property around the whole area. An example of what my views look like after derender + blacklist: You can find bargains if you're doggedly diligent in your search.
  19. Yes, I only use Firestorm...so big bad view-blocking neighbours won't come back. Didn't realize the LL viewer didn't have that function, though.
