  1. Ahh, no. No VPN witchery involved here to my certain knowledge. That phenomenon is related to some squirrelly behaviour of the viewer "interest list" which LL really should have sorted by now. I believe what I have seen is related to data-transfer between regions, though the viewer interest-list may be peripherally involved. I wait and see.
  2. I have noticed reproducible issues when teleporting from RC Channel regions running 578370 back to Main Server regions runng 577734, whereby several items are "ghosted" untill a relog is done, in other words they appear to have dropped off to other observers but not to the wearer. I thought at first this was just random but having encountered if a number of times now, it seems to be reproducible for me at least, as observed by at least three other folk. Anyone else had comments about missing attachments? BTW I am assiduous in making sure that I do not have multiple attachments on right hand or anywhere else for that matter. ETA: I'm not going to file a ticket over this until I am sure it's not just me cludging stuff in RLVa
  3. Well it must not have gone quite as LL planned because Main Server just got a "bounce restart" today and stayed on 577734. Further edit Wed's 15th: No post from LL referencing the RC Channel roll, so I assume no significant change there either. It would seem that "mushroom syndrome" is rearing its ugly head again.
  4. Restarts appears to have been slow but have completed as planned. My region restarted normally and is fine, today was just a "bounce", no software changes.
  5. @Henri Beauchamp Now my understanding of these (multiple) friends online bugs was that the one affecting the initial failure of the system to send a list of online friends had been at least partially fixed (at least it appears normal in the current Firestorm and I would assume that the same is true for the Linden viewer though I have not had cause to use it recently) The bug where accepting a new friendship offer or having an offer you make accepted promptly causes the system to register all your existing friends online to show as offline until you relog appears unchanged. Perhaps Rider was indicating that nothing was being done about THAT? With that bug LL really DO need a digital extraction tool.
  6. There is an old saying "there are none so blind as those who will not see". Linden Lab know there is a problem but they do not see any urgency to the issue because they (Tilia) have the capacity to endure a hit to their income stream while their programmers work on the planned "improvements". I hesitate to say that they do not care about the creators that are not so well insulated against an income disruption but it does rather look that way! Linden Lab's clumsiness and apparent uncaring attitude when it comes to dealing with their userbase is well-known and a real "achilles' heel" for them.
  7. Seriously? If I knew THAT I'd've hired myself out to Linden Lab for a five figure sum! It's their system, they broke it, now it is up to them to fix it and not mess around!
  8. *Sigh*. The Blog entry does a great job of showing that whoever is working on these search/Marketplace changes has paid not the slightest attention to the screams of SL creators, whether it is by JIRA, ticket or in this forum.
  9. I've just read LL's most recent entry in Tools (sic) & Technology. It is almost unbelievable how smug and disconnected this current batch of Linden Lab technicians/programmers are. Almost...I have been active in SL for 15 years now and I have reached marginally higher levels of incredulity in years long past. That marketplace search works AT ALL is surprising. It clearly does NOT function well for the creators and if you need to search with any degree of thoroughness, you need a degree in algebraic functions. This has made MP search almost unusable for most recreational users. LL should be ashamed of their work.
  10. Arwen, this is how you see it in https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-233391
  11. The JIRAs are closed as duplicates but as I complained ignorantly elsewhere, the original of which they are duplicates (...um is that English?) is not noted. Apparently it is an internal JIRA now and if you know where to look you can see it. I was told: "Spidey marked it as duplicate of WENG-9476, which is probably an internal ticket number." This seems to be Linden Lab saying "Look, we are working on this, we know it's bad, but just shut up and let us get on with it" The regard in which we hold Linden Lab is beginning to erode, I suspect.
  12. We WERE told that this situation was going to improve this year and yet here we are at RC Channel roll day and nary a peep from LL. OK, so it may be that is is just a bounce for all the regions in the RC stable (including those BlueSteel regions that DID get new code last week?). Enough of this secrecy or inertia, LL. Cosidering the mess that we have endured a couple of times at rolls lately and the woeful "improvements" to Marketplace, a little openness would be appropriate, I think? ETA c5pm PST: It would seem that LL either do not feel a Deploy Plan post was necessary this week or they are all too busy cludjing Marketplace.
  13. If that IS so, and it certainly seems like it, that rather suggests someone is using a hammer to tighten a bolt.
  14. As a mere iggerant user of SL, and up to now the SL Marketplace, my assessment of LL's most recent "upgrade" is EPIC FAIL. Whether I search with quotes or not I get maybe a couple of relevant items plus a host of totally unrelated stuff. If I use quotation marks around the search terms the results are marginally better, in that I get about a dozen relevant items plus a heap of dross. How, in heaven's name can this be called an improvement? It appears to have been done by someone with little or no understanding either of their actions or the outcome. When they broke it the first time it became unusable, then for a while it appeared "fixed". It is now almost 100% useless.
  15. Though I can't quantify it, I observe a drop in FPS plus an increase in GPU utility during both sunset and, to a lesser extent, sunrise if I have shadows on. This should come as no real surprise, since shadow-drawing is more intense at those times, though quite why the load in heavier at sunset I have no idea. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of OpenGL could explain it.
  16. I suspect the OP's issue is with signed certificates , which is proving an issue with some FS users that operate high security settings. Both FS and Catznip employ the RLVa code developed by Kitty Barnett, which is broadly similar to the original RLV code, used by Marine Kelley's own Restrained Love viewer and one or two others, most notably the Kokua viewer. I don't know the signature status of either Catznip or Kokua. The most common reason for not signing off the viewer code (to my understanding) is the cost involved. This matter regularly crops up at FS update time and the FS team are at pains to point out that despite it not being signed the FS code is entirely safe.
  17. You say "the viewer crashed": did it just close (straight to your computer's desktop) or was it via the grey screen "quit or view IM" logout, which is most often due to Internet disconnection? If it was the latter, you need to; firstly reboot your net hardware ( modem/router etc), then check with your ISP for issues. SL needs a really good connection, so a speed test to the SL servers is worth a check. A good connection to a local server means almost nothing, nor does the ability to browse the net in general.
  18. Strangely I find that using this option causes unacceptable choppiness in my viewer and unless I crank it down to under 10 I don't really see much qualitative improvement in my view.
  19. In Firestorm you can "show only friends" as an option I can't remember whether you got that choice in the Linden Viewer. That way you can derender most avatars, should you so wish. Then you go around blithely barging other (derendered) avatars out of your way. It doesn't win you friends but it will improve your FPS!
  20. JINX!! But I am curious; Maestro suggests all RC regions will be on 577734; so were the small subset running 578100 since last Wednesday rolled back onto '734?
  21. Oh no, Release Candidate roll, they dun breaked it again! (Yes I know Maestro said it was just a simple restart..looks to me like DouglasFargo Linden was doing it).
  22. Lag doesn't care whether you are paying attention or not, Solar, you know that as well as I. 9 times of 10 the wear/add error is the product of unexpected lag and it is not constant or predictable, you know that as well. Your case re- tooltips and documentation is sensible, but we all know how keen most users are to read documentation! Most of the foregoing comments are essentially mildly hysterical fluff, if LL thought it woth fiddling in the viewer menus the'd've done it years ago. I learned to value "add" years ago via the old RLV restriction where "attach to" really made you concenttrate if you wished to avoid broken content. I would not wish a return to that on anyone!
  23. ahh.. a classic lag-trap issue...then the Viewer needs a little menu editing...shouldn't be beyond the ability of a Linden Lab coder, I would've thought.
