Not sure what the steps were but my roomie got Firestorm going on her Deck. It'll take some control input shenanigans too.

Yeah, I was like scratching my head because I recall firestorm only supporting Windows OS and Apple OS, not sure if there is even a Linux version for second life.

The fact that you know in advance what you will be purchasing means that it is permitted.

Though the chances are a great many people would just rather merchants put everything on sale on regular vendors and allowed people to buy what they wanted instead of feeding L$ into a machine buying what they do not want in the vain hope what they do want will be available for purchase - in that was it is still a bit of a gamble as they gamble on what will become available to be purchased. However, currently that is all well within the rules.

Yeah this is why I'm on the fence, granted you know what you're buying there is still a gacha involvement being involved for the third item. You're trying to purchase.

Edit: Assuming if someone wants a RARE in the machine, I'm sure it'll work just like gachas the third item will just keep randomizing until you finally get the item you're searching for. Then you just pay three more times then done.

Edit: And If its permitted that's all I really wanted to know.

  3. I saw this in a store, and he was using this.

    https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/NekoToys-Lucky-Vendor-Black/22564157

Edit: So basically it will show 12 and say You want to make sure you want this item? then it'll randomize again 1-20 of the items in vender. Therefore a gacha, but ttelling you up front before you buy.

Basically will tell you the items you buy up front before you spend the L. Is this against the gacha rule or no?

  4. They don't bring up second life because Facebook has plans to make it into something else. From my understanding, it's going to support BOTH VR, and Third person style of game play.

And I'm sure they'll probably add Facebook MetaVerse on Steam.

Edit: I'm sure facebook possibly has plans as well how fix alot of issues second life also lacked, such as terrible performance on Computers, Kids pretending to be adults, and so on.

You can "sort of" do this with http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlCastRay to create hits that your shots will go to to lock on a target and if no hits are detected, triangulate either your character's position or the guesstimated projectile rez location with the camera position and some clamped distance from the camera to simulate aiming at the horizon or to infinity.

The aesthetics problems come from lack of features, such as no controllable IKs to rotate your upper body (or torso once the upper body hits a limit) to whatever you're aiming at. This can only be done in mouselook without any AO overriding it, not over the shoulder or third party perspective. Currently, you'd have to use a ton of incremental upper body rotation animation assets and choose the closest one.

Also, we have no client side effects capability with prim parameter "updating", so if you want some fancy highlighting or glow outlines for targets it would have to be something done in-world and seen by everyone...

Yeah exactly like it should be in the SL engine. It would be a pain to script the movement, AND try to get the aim centered. In addition it would require a scripting language for it like mouselook.

For example, they're LLMouselook commands in the SL viewer that people can manage for weapon scripts, and other SL products.

However, if you were to try scripting something for TPS it would be too difficult with out LSL languages supporting TPS mode.

iirc (take this with a grain of salt, i saw this in another thread), the AWS actually costs LL more to host on. i believe they've repeatedly said region/homestead costs wont be going down

I don't believe this until I see the bill on market shares for it. It's cheaper or they would've never bothered moving too the cloud if there was no money to be made.

There is a tiny '+' in the middle of mouselook, I think?

Or there was...I remember using it for shooting zombies 🧟‍♂️

ETA: I've probably totally misunderstood this, sorry!

Aye I'm talking about something like you'd see in PUBG, Warframe, and MANY third person games. You simply hold right mouse click and you go into side camera/crosshair mode when aiming at something.

You can already edit your camera position to achieve what you want. Crosshair not included, but there's not much you could do with that anyway.

I guess some viewer could implement a different camera position for mouselook to get closer to what you mean, but that has a lot of headaches involved when it comes to how scripts are supposed to work with mouselook.

I can imagine anyone being able to code it, but for it to work properly would need to be implemented in the SL engine.

Those are hitboxes. However, what about an option for just the avatar's hitbox. I've also noticed the social window for the second life window is splitted off into two windows.. A chat box and friendslist. Been ttrying to figure out how to get that into the chat window as well, so I don't have to deal with two social windows.

I don't think this is a problem in and of itself. I would imagine SL has some overlap with the people who enjoy the virtual dollhouse/decorating stuff that a game like The Sims offers, as well as the virtual hangout+ social spaces that something like VR Chat offers. There's plenty on Steam that aren't your typical 'games' with goals/winners and losers and whatnot.

The currency thing that others have brought up seems like it would make sense as to why SL isn't on there, though.

Pretty much this, and with GTA roleplay sims becoming a thing. I fail to understand the same thing on SL can't be implanted on steam.
