  1. I really do not think there was any better or more equitable way to release the new homes, nor a guaranteed way to be able to predict how many homes need to be built in order for everyone who wants one to have one immediately. We have: - long-time premium accounts who have not been interested in living in a Linden Home until now - existing non-premium accounts (including non-premium alts) who had not been premium until now when the new homes were being released - brand new to SL accounts (not new alts, but completely brand new people) who joined and went premium right away in order to get a Linden home - existing premium accounts who were living in the old Linden Homes up until the time the new homes were released There may be more, but those are the main categories that come to mind right now. An argument could be made for any one of the above as to why that category should have been given priority for the new homes. The count of members in each of those categories is also not static, especially once the new homes were put out for preview. The most static count of possible demand would have been the amount of people in the existing Linden homes at the time the new homes were being planned, plus some extra percent. Prior to the new homes being released, I don't think that there was a way to accurately estimate the counts of the other categories that now want a new Linden home immediately.
  2. Once the hype about the new homes and everyone's excitement about wanting to see how everyone else has decorated has worn off, the number of people walking into your home may drop off (though I haven't had anyone walk into my home when I've been there). I usually set a TP landing point for the parcel along one of the edges, and also lock the house door (I know this doesn't keep people from sitting on something inside, but it does indicate one don't want people walking in, and it also makes it a few more seconds time consuming, to help use up those 15 seconds before the orb boots them - if an orb is also being used). Skyboxes are allowed over 2000 m, so that's another option for when you're involved with activities where you really don't want to be interrupted. There is definitely a trade-off between traditional security (ban lines and 0-second orbs) and the community environment of the new continent. It's up to you to decide whether it's worth it to you. When the new security rules were announced, there were many who abandoned their homes at that time, deciding it was not worth it to them.
  3. As far as I'm aware, you need to be the owner of a house parcel in order to get the content pack from the mailbox that comes with the houses.
  4. I would suggest checking out the Raglan Shire Art Walk which is talking place in-world right now.
  5. If you are portraying someone from a different ethnicity than your own and you are doing so respectfully and in a way to not be offensive, then I think the problem is with those that you say are treating you as a villain. I would suggest hanging out with different people or at a different location.
  6. All of the new ones are currently in use, but if you want to try and snag one up that someone abandons, you can try refreshing the premium page. It does seem like a very small number of homes or houseboats may be abandoned on a given day, but there is a lot of competition for them by people constantly refreshing the page. Otherwise, follow Patch Linden's update thread for information about when a new batch may be released:
  7. When I buy mainland and use the group bonus, I want the land as well as the LI. Sometimes I've used the group bonus for land on a different region. When you're working with a 512 or 1024 sqm parcel, the group bonus isn't very much, but if you have a 8,192 sqm parcel, the group bonus is 819 sqm, so as you own larger amounts, the bonus amount becomes more and more useful not just for the LI, but also for the land, if you want to get the most value for what you're paying in tier. If one bought a 204 sqm parcel somewhere else on the same region as their main parcel, a 1 or 2 LI flower field could be put on it, so that it's not completely vacant looking. The group bonus is also useful for buying up abandoned 16 or 32 sqm ex-advertising plots along the linden roads.
  8. You might want to check https://community.secondlife.com/forums/forum/298-machinima-forum/
  9. Your issue is not Second Life related, so the Second Life forums is not really the appropriate forum. Have you created an Open Sim account on any of the open sim worlds (you can't use your SL account in an Open Sim world)? If you have, then you will have a good region address for logging into, a valid account for that location, and depending on the world that you choose, perhaps a forum specific to that area to help with issues that you might encounter in that Open Sim area. You might also want to look into how to have your own Open Sim region on your own computer (again, not a topic for the SL forums).
  10. I hope not. I hope that this experience might lead back to a renewed interest in revitalizing other parts of the mainland. There are actually a lot of nice areas in mainland where there are builds that work together well with neighboring builds. There are even some nicely landscaped and decorated communities on mainland with homes, a little business district and venue areas that cater towards fostering community. As much as I like the new area, I still like the variety and possibilities that mainland and private estates offer that the Linden Home area can't offer due to its purpose and design. I'm not ready to write mainland off yet.
  11. Wondering where this box of kitties came from ....
  12. @Panteleeva I agree with Eva that the black and white version would make a good profile pic.
  13. Perhaps that was the message from the orb? The LH supplied orbs put the message in chat instead of popups, I think? (I haven't set one up, so I don't know what the options are exactly). But as far as the material, if it was not obviously visible from off the parcel, I wouldn't be concerned about it.

As far as I'm aware the Bellisseria Citizens group welcomes all, even if you haven't been able to snag a house yet (and whether you are in one of the resident created Bellisseria groups or not has no bearing at all on your chance to get a home there). By all means, come out and visit, check things out, participate in the community.
  15. I did the majority of it last night, slowly, with my wearable single speed bike. That way I could enjoy the scenery and houses more, and not have to worry about managing an unfamiliar vehicle. I took at LM at where I left off so I can finish it up the next time I'm over there. I think I only have 10 wayspots left to go. I only saw one other person out on the streets and sidewalks. He must have been on one of the rez and ride bicycles with gears, as he passed me up and was out of sight shortly after. I didn't keep track of the amount of time I spent on the route, but I did make several stops along the way for various reasons. I was using the region WL and day cycle, and it was a little after sunrise had ended before I started, and when I finished for the evening, it was a little bit before sunset started - so a pretty full SL day
  16. Missing Melody was noted in one of the LL Featured News: Destinations blog entries last week. I noticed especially because it had a VW Bug in the picture on the blog post It is a pretty place and there is some thunder and lightening out in the distance which with my photo skills did not look as good captured in a picture as just watching them when out walking in the region. It is also the location of that bakery with all the wonderful choices that I was having a hard time making decisions about what to order yesterday ( the pic in the "how does your avatar look today" thread). I would definitely suggest popping out for a visit.
  17. I did have a red dress hiding in the closet!
  18. It's on the land pricing page that was linked to in one of the responses above. It's the "Land Maintenance" for a private region cost. Land Maintenance is a monthly cost.
  19. That is a popular combination (Maitreya / Catwa). What you need to look for are skins which offer both a Maitreya applier and a Catwa applier for the skin tone that you are interested in. Maitreya is also Omega compatible, so if you have the Omega relay for Maitreya, you could also look at skins with an Omega body applier and a Catwa applier for the skin tone that you are interested in.
  20. Like you, I wasn't sure about the new area until I got a space out there. The sandbars are bigger than they look on the map, and have a lot of variation in terrain height and décor, and do a good job of making the area feel larger and less crowded.
  21. Perhaps they are using it and you're just not aware. They could be using it as an unpacking area and a dressing room with parcel privacy turned on, neither use requiring furnishings to be placed. That is one of the uses that people found for the old LH's, so it makes sense that some will continue to use the new LH's for that purpose, especially since LL has said that they will be phasing out and removing the old LH areas (requiring at some point, that people move out of them).
  22. I think that the first release of houses plus houseboats was at least (or close to) 2300 - maybe a bit higher, from what I recall Abnor saying in one of the other threads as a close number. So with the addition of 709 houseboats last week, that would put the combined total around 3000 or a little higher.
