    new homes

There is only 1 level of premium right now, so as long as you are premium, you are able to try for one of the new styles of Linden Homes. The demand for the new homes still is greater than the number of new homes available, so it can still be difficult to get one of the newer ones. They are continuing to create more, there are small region releases several times a week, and there are people who may abandon one, so there are some available from time to time. There is a post in the Land: Linden Homes section of the forum which may be helpful for you: Also, you may want to check out the Knowledge Base article about the new homes, so that you will understand some of the differences from the old style Linden homes:
  2. I never knew that about iguanas - and I guess I hadn't really thought about it before. We've been in the upper-30's (F) for lows and mid-50's (F) for highs where I am, but that's just normal winter weather for my area. Any iguanas around here are inside in terrariums with heat lamps... That is a pretty neat cold weather description, though, it's not just cold, it's iguana dropping cold!!!
  3. You need to go to the download location for the viewer you are using, and then download and install the current released version. You didn't say which viewer you use, but if you're using the LL viewer, go to https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/ If you're using a 3rd party viewer, check on this list for the link to the viewer's download page: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory
  4. You need to update the viewer that you are using to the current version which has "Baked-on-Mesh" functionality in order to see them properly. Most of the 3rd party viewers have updated versions which include Bakes-on-Mesh.
  5. The LL viewer (and other viewers that use the LL login screen layout do show links to the latest blogs (and allow to scroll back a ways...) Kokua True, it doesn't show a preview of the beginning of the blog text, but the links are there for people who want to see it. I'm not using Firestorm now, but when I was, one of the things I missed was all this info that is displayed on the login screen.
  6. Just to add, removing the downgrade is something Live Chat can do during the chat session, so it is a very quick and painless process. You don't even need to give a reason why - just let them know you want to cancel the downgrade.
  7. I don't know about moving the display name itself - it might be better to move the unity meter display up a little higher. Other options would be to turn off displaying names altogether, or just turn off displaying your own name - play around with the options in Preferences -> General tab - Name Tags section.
  8. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it at all, unless it was causing some type of issue for me moving through the public areas around their parcel - especially as it doesn't appear to be a visual blight. I do understand about the "if one person is doing it, everyone will want to..." aspect, but if it's not causing an actual issue for you, is it really worth taking up Governance's time by filing an abuse report? I'm just wondering if with everyone's zeal in making sure everyone else is staying within the covenant, whether or not we're filling up Governance's inbox with a lot of minor or non-issues. I also understand about looking for discussion for clarity - to figure out where the edge points really are - but for the causal reader, it may also make it seem like Bellisseria is full of people just going around looking for things that might not quite be in covenant, in theme, in taste, etc.
  9. See "What to to if your account is compromised" in the knowledge base article It will walk you through filing a support case for this type of situation.
  10. I'm always wary of movies that are based on books I've read. Besides characters and locations not looking like you've pictured them in your mind all the times you read the book, the story line of the movie is often either missing parts or includes parts or emphases that were not in the book. I'm also wary when buying a version of a book that came out after a movie was made of it, especially when the book cover talks about the movie. I like to make sure what I am reading is the original version, not the movie version. I can still remember the first hard-cover book I got to pick out by myself and buy, when I was 9. I got the original Mary Poppins, and I was so surprised when I started reading it and found out that it was nothing like the Disney movie.
  11. Out on the deck of my cabin at Hither, in the early morning sun
  12. Earlier today I was Flamenco dancing at Antiquity Spain (and now I need to go out shopping for a better flamenco dancing dress)
  13. This is what Tonic has for their 'Lite' body. The last update came with 2 versions of the body - the regular one with all the layers and then a "Lite" version which just has a single layer ( for tattoo or clothing). There is a "Lite" version of the Tonic heads, also.
  14. If you're trying to find someplace where you can set home to, I think you should be able to search places for 'set home'. There are some groups which will let you set home on their land after joining the group that owns the land.
  15. I have it open often - always if I'm traveling around, so I can see parcel lines (or if I want to count how many other homes are on the region I just got a new Linden home on). I also use it when I want a small visual on my screen of where others in the vicinity might be located at. Generally location is what I'm usually interested in, but if it's more important that I see all the names of nearby people, for whatever reason, than I'll use the people window list. I used the Kokua viewer for awhile, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that their mini-map also showed parcel lines. I did set mine recently to show temp rezzers, but I've yet to see any at the places I usually hang out.
  16. @DreamcatcherSirene A few other things about the alpha tab in the HUD which may not be apparent... As was mentioned in one of the other comments, some clothes creators include an "auto alpha" in the clothes they make which automatically sets sections of the alpha cuts on when you add the clothing item. Sometimes, when you take the clothing item off, those are not cleared. Also, if you set them manually yourself, when you take a clothing item they will not be automatically cleared. So, if you take a clothing item off or change outfits, and you notice that part of your body is 'missing', be sure to check the alpha tab of the HUD to see if there are alpha sections turned on. There should be a button to show everything (I don't have the Lara HUD up, but it might be called 'Show All') which will clear all the alpha cuts and make all of your body visible again.
  17. As Alwin mentioned, if you don't receive the lindens in an acceptable time for you, go ahead and cancel the order, and then do a Market Rate buy. (When you cancel an order, the money you paid should go into your USD balance, and that will be used first when making a Market Rate buy.) A Market Rate buy should complete right away without a waiting period. The time frames for Best Rate buy are just estimates - it's an exchange, and depends on who is selling how much at which rate, as to how soon a particular best rate market buy will be filled (some may never be filled, based on the number of lindens per dollar being requested). Best Rate buys can be useful when doing large purchases, but you also need to know how to choose a reasonable buy rate, and also be willing to wait a bit for the buy request to be filled.
  18. I think it depends on what functionality is most important to different players. I don't feel like my visuals have been downgraded and I'm not even sure how I would know if I'm missing materials or specular or whatever. Being a fashionista or going full-out on makeup or effects, though, has never been a huge priority for me. I love the simplicity and ease of use of BOM without appliers, and I think I look better now than I had before. And it does reduce complexity and scripts, so that is also a plus in my books.
  19. Slink released new Visage Redux heads in early October. I have one, and it does not appear to have onion layers, that I can tell, anyway. From one of the NC's that came with it: Welcome to the Slink Visage Mesh Head system. These heads are animated and use Bakes on Mesh to render skins, and other layers like hairbases, makeup, freckles, tattoos
  20. This is not an uncommon situation. You didn't say whether you were using the system body (that comes with the starter avatars) or whether you had purchased a mesh body. The fix is somewhat different depending on that. If you are using the system body, then you need to wear an alpha layer to make the area of the body that it covers invisible. If those pants did not come with an alpha layer, you could look to see if you have other pants that came with an alpha layer, it would probably work both pair of pants. If you bought a Slink mesh body and are using the BOM (Bakes on Mesh) version of the body, then you would also need to wear an alpha layer (just like if you were using a system body. If you bought some other mesh body brand, you would most likely have a HUD with an 'alpha cuts' seciton, which would let you choose the areas of the mesh body that you wanted to alpha-out (make invisible). If, when you look for clothes, if if says something like 'comes in 5 standard sizes' as well as listing specific mesh bodies, than most likely it will include an alpha layer - the 5 standard sizes refers to the system body. Also, when it's mesh clothing, instead of "5 standard sizes" it may instead say "System body" or "classic avatar" (or something along those lines). In the "Library" section at the bottom of your inventory, under "Clothing" then "Initial Outfits" there is a folder named "Chris" . Copy that and paste it into the regular part of your inventory, and then open it up. Look for an item called "Chris - Pants Alpha" and wear that. If it works well for your pants, then copy and paste it into the folder with your pants. (The inventory symbol for an alpha layer is a white shirt shape, with lines on it, regardless of whether it's a shirt alpha, a pants alpha, a dress alpha, etc.)
