  1. Is there a 'rental office' or main rental board area for the area where you rented your new home at?  Sometime the rental office or rental board will also have a contact board for the land owner and/or managers.  If the rental box has an option for re-requesting a group invite, I would try that again.

In the mean time, if you want to be able to change your "home" location to someplace other than your old parcel, there are a couple of places - "The Shelter" and "Caledon Oxbridge University" are the two that come to mind - that have an area which you can set your "home" to for free (after joining their group, which is also free).

  2. Sometimes houses for sale will mention the minimum size parcel that they will fit on.  If they don't they may give the dimensions of the house.   The description for the house should also tell you how much LI the house will use.  So for a standard 512 sqm parcel, look for a house whose dimensions are less than 32 x 16, and whose LI value is low enough to leave adequate LI for furnishings.

  3. When you order a gift from the MP for a friend, that goes into your shopping cart, and in order to complete that purchase, you need to go to your shopping cart to check out.

If you specify that you want to buy a gift for a friend and enter their information on the item page, but then click the 'buy now' button (instead of going  to your shopping cart) that buy now purchases the item for you - it does not process the order that is in your shopping cart.

I was scrolling past and noticed the platform part contained letters, and at first, couldn't figure out what they said.  Right after I started this response, my brain cooperated with my eyes.  Never mind :)

  5. Are you asking if someone paying another avi to rez a no-transfer item on their land is 'a thing'?  I would say no.   If the house is no-transfer, then you cannot 'sell' it to anyone - no matter what they pay you for it, it will never be their house - it will always remain your house.  If something were to happen to the house you rezzed out for them to live in, they would not be able to fix it, or re-rez the house, or rez the house on a different parcel.

If the house IS transfer, then you can always try selling it - this would allow the buyer to actually own the house and to rez it wherever they want to.

If the house is NOT transfer, then the best option is probably to rez it out on land you own, and then rent out the land with the included house on it, as part of the rental.

  6. 'Sticking to you' like you're wearing them on your hand or arm?   If that's the case, find the item in your inventory for the furniture set,  right click it and select 'detach from yourself' from the pop-up menu.

After getting it off of yourself, try rezzing it again, but when you drop it onto the floor, pick a spot in the house, but not too close to your avatar.   If it rezzes a set of furniture all together, once you've gotten it put out on the floor, you should be able to select edit for individual pieces, and then move that piece to where you want it to be.

  7. I can just provide some very general information, but I'm sure others will be by also with additional info.

First, if you haven't already found this, take a look at the Fabulously Free in SL blog.

Second, take a look at the recent thread in this section of the forum titled "5 years later..."  Although the original poster in that thread was an old SL resident coming back after a break of 5 years, a lot of the information in the responses regarding mesh bodies and mesh heads would be applicable to your situation also.

Personally, I would first get a couple of outfits that could be worn on either the classic avi body or on the popular mesh bodies, so that I had a few things to wear that I liked while I shopped around and got demos to try out.

In terms of which body parts to replace with mesh, if nothing else, I would get mesh hands and feet (SLink would be my choice for those) HOWEVER, I would NOT do that if I knew I wanted to get a mesh body really soon - most mesh bodies will come with the hands and feet included.  I would get a mesh body before getting a mesh head.

    Welcome to SL!

I don’t know, can’t remember when it was short!

Just wear it in a braid if it's really long, or put it in a low pony tail when you want to have the sunroof open - that's what I used to do when I only had a sunroof and not a convertible.  As fate would have it, just shortly after I got my convertible, I decided it was time to grow my hair out long again :)

I prefer temps between 70 - 100 F for riding around with the top down.  On long trips if it's over 100 F I will put the top up and turn the A/C on, mainly so I don't get sun stroke.

If we go through Wisconsin when we're able to make our big road trip, I'll be sure to put the top down - as long as it's not raining or more than a light snow :)

  9. Take a look at some of the current threads in the "Make Friends" sub-forum.  There might be someone who has posted there and might have some similar interests as you do.  You probably want to put a post in that area and list some of your interests so others reading it will have a better ideas as to whether their interests might match up with yours.

Sometimes it takes a little bit of time to finally hook up with people who will become good friends, but be patient and keep checking out different places inworld as well.  Good luck.

    I put my top down.

It was mid-70's in my part of the world yesterday.  I almost considered putting the top down on my convertible and driving to the next town to do grocery shopping.  (Driving almost a mile through the middle of town isn't always worth putting the car's top down...   and I prefer to leave MY top on).

  11. I'm not sure that the cost of land, particularly estates, could be lowered too much without causing a big devaluation of property value (and consequently a decrease in the income they are able to generate from rentals) for current estate owners.

If I were in the position to be able to buy more mainland again, I would probably look for an area which had a lot of abandoned land.

I don't think you can really compare land costs between open sim grids and SL.  I used to have a sim in an open sim grid which I had purchased when the grid was first starting out and the price was very inexpensive, but as time went by and the grid grew, the land prices were increased over time as the number of servers needed increased, server hosting costs increased as the grid needed to be made more robust, servers needed to be upgraded, additional support staff needed to be hired, etc.  Scaling up costs money, having staff and developers costs money.

  12. My granddaughter plays Roblox.  I might be wrong, but I see it more as a platform for the younger folks (junior/senior high) who have outgrown Fantage.  Roblox does allow creating things which I think can even be sold to other players, and creating games or experiences for other players to play, so that part is cool and could be seen as a stepping stone for fostering an interest in learning more about digital creation, coding and scripting.

  13. This thread has taken a strange turn.  I believe that the active community here is very good at helping others, even when the person who requested help is difficult and strains the patience of all trying to help.  I have rarely (if ever) seen a reply that I thought was malicious, intentional or not (in this incarnation of the forum).  Sometimes a sense of humor is needed, but generally something is posted to lighten the mood in general, not in derision.  It provides a way for everyone to laugh at their self, and provides a kind of 'reset'.   There are also people who come to post a thread who have an 'attitude' right from their first post.  I think the attitude read in the original post can often color the responses received.

There have been some really interesting side conversations that have developed in some threads - again I don't see this necessarily as anything disrespectful or against the original poster - similar side conversations happen in real life also, when there is a group of people conversing together.

In this thread in particular, I didn't really see a lot of negativity until the original poster started attacking others.  In light of threads which end up with the original poster ending up saying "it's just an experiment", I think that the participation by the others, prior to that being said, shows the extent as to which people want to try and understand someone's issue, and offer other viewpoints when necessary.

I am very wary when conversing with others, often not sure if there was a joke I didn't understand, or if someone is making fun of me, but in this forum in particular, I feel very safe.

I was considering putting the compilation - to date - of the Sentient Thread in the "Yo, don't pick on people who dun speak English" thread...

    But it's better here.

(don't read, it will make your head hurt)

I skimmed through it (because it was nicely formatted) and it's not as bad as I thought it might be :)

Some parts even (almost) make sense.

    Kudo's for compiling it, Callum.
